Is the Wyze Cam Pan worth the hype and your $30? Check out my full review to find out if this "budget" camera is worth it!
For $30, you can expect the same great quality of the Wyze Cam V2 but have the extra features like pan and tilt. Other than a period of time where I did not receive notifications, I haven't really had any issues. In my review, the motion tracking was a bit slow which really hasn't been my experience when in my kitchen, where it normally is, being in a smaller room vs a larger room may have played into that? Not sure. Overall, if you have a V2 or have looked at the V2, you 100% be happy with it.

What do you think of the Wyze Cam Pan? If you have a larger room that you want to make sure has complete coverage, or just want to be able to move the camera, this is a great option!

Would it be practical to put this outside above my front door? It's an apartment building so rain isn't an issue. But it does have to be battery powered.

A warning to those who buy both the pan and the v2 (non-pan) - the power bricks may look the same, but they are not. The pan’s brick is 2amp and the v2 is a 1amp brick. So don’t mix them up as they are not interchangeable.

They are great man, for the money, you won't find anything nicer! If you don't need the tilt and pan functions....the V2 is just as good image quality wise and $10 cheaper.

Your reviews are amazing! I tried the Cam Pan once about a year ago and what I didn't like about it was exactly what you mentioned about 5 minutes into the video was the constant minor adjustments that it kept making ...and all I could hear in my small apartment was the noise of the cam making those small turns and it was too annoying so I returned it. I may try it again along with the V2 and see which one works better for me now. (New subbie)

I totally understand. It was in my kitchen for the longest time and I actually bought an enclosure and put it outside. You're the second person to mention that as a complaint in 24 hours. I hope that they look at making a V2 of the Pan that would have a more quiet motor in it, maybe one day! Thank you for subscribing, I appreciate you!

Hey, Aaron! It’s me again about 1 month later! Changed my internet service, upgraded my WiFi system to a whole house mesh system and just today got my Wyze Cam Pan in. Installed it; took a little longer than it should because of my ineptness! My husband and I are sharing the device on our phones. I was able to order a glass of tea from my phone while my husband was preparing himself a snack! New purpose for the Wyze Cam Pan 😂! Loving this device based on your recommendation! Will be ordering more Wyze devices! Thanks!

I like it, I think I'd be fine with a bunch of V2's honestly. Not really anywhere great in my house layout that I need a pan\tilt camera. I have seen people mount these outside and THAT, I think is genius

I've wanted to get my hands on a Wyze Cam Pan for some time. I finally got a special import to the UK and set it up easily, however now I find the Wyze skill for Echo is only available in the USA and Canada. I know we are only a small country but if the company wants to grow in Europe then we need this skill!

I don't really think they are trying to grow outside the US yet. They have all but said they want to but they are just not large enough for that. With you having to get a special import for it kind of re-affirms what I said. When they officially support outside the states I'd imagine the skill will come.

Couldn't be happier with my Wyze cams. You can really deck out your security (indoors) with these. The inexpensive price, local storage and ease of use is incredible. Their stealth black Wyze V2 is pretty cool if you were lucky enough to grab one.

Fab and very informative...thanks Aaron! Got 2 of the V2s a year ago this July and very happy with them. Thinking of getting a Pan version but they don't deliver to where I live on Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands so I'll have to wait til I'm up in the US again sometime. Wonder if they deliver to the UK? Going home for a visit soon 🇬🇧

Super pleased with my pan cam! I do have one in a window showing the wide front view of my yard and door area. It shows very well at night!!!!!I have several brands of cameras and I must say This is the best one of them all for lots of reasons! Will be getting more!!

Some have no issues, some have glare issues at night. During day I imagine it's fine. At night may need to turn off night vision and rely on a porch light or something

They are rated for indoor only but tons of people use them outside. V2 users even have an enclosure they can use haha

The regular WYZE cam worked very well, no operational issues. On the other hand, the WYZE Pan is not very good, ours often pan fully to one side all on it own, other than that, everything else worked OK.

I found your comment about missing notifications interesting, because I had a period (of a few weeks also) where my phone would not connect to my Pan Cam consistently. It required a hard reset several times (power disconnect/reconnect). I had made no changes, and don't think I even installed a firmware upgrade to fix it, it just started working flawlessly again. I rarely connect, but having to reboot when you're out of town can be difficult. I'm looking forward to getting an outdoor Wyze cam next.

Thanks for the comment Gregg! Glad it isn't just me! I just ran into this issue with my V2 all of a sudden too but after I pulled the power and plugged it back in, it worked fine. Odd. I chalked that one up to a power glitch or something. I have always been able to connect to them, just notifications rarely

Get a few wifi plug adapters that use a different app that will allow you to power off and power on each individual power source to each Wyze cam and you can reboot from anywhere.

If you haven't, watch the entire video, it explains the cloud storage. Sorry answer is yes, it does record a rolling 14 days worth of triggered events and keeps them in the cloud

Great review. We purchased a few cam pan's, and wonder whether you can verify whether the sd card retains the latest xx hours of video, or does it get full and then not record? Right now we rely on the notification, but I'd prefer to record everything. As long as it is a continuous reel, that would be great.

Hey Richard, sorry for the delay, YT didn't notify me of your comment (typical YT....haha). Yes, continuous recording will fill the card then delete old footage so the new footage can fit. If you have continuous recording enabled it will always be recording, the SD card being full doesn't stop it. Larger SD card holds more footage of course.

I'll be honest, I didn't mess with the two way talk feature much. I never had much use for it, probably the 1 thing I didn't necessarily care about as a feature.

Hi, thanks for the review on the Wyze cam pan. You said that it will only work on 2.4ghz not 5ghz. My home automation, google home, ring, schlage, chromecast etc is all set to 5ghz frequently. Would this be an issue with controlling it through my google home hub?

Hey Michael, both cams will do continuous recording while still sending the triggered events to the cloud. Cloud uploads occur regardless.

I am trying to decide between the Wyze Pan and the Wyze V2. Is the Wyze Pan noisy, I heard someone say that the motion is noisy. Can I turn the motion off while at home and turn the motion on when leaving home? Nice video.....thank you!

Hey Yoga, for sure, the action is louder than I'd like for it to be, it's no really "stealthy" if you will and if you're at home and it tracks you, you'll hear it. You can turn off the movement and turn it back on when you want, yes. Good question!

Great reviews, however, I have read in some buyers reviews that these cameras will not re-aquire the wifi connection without a manual unplug/replug by the user.. Since the proposed location is un-attended & many hours away, this would be a fatal flaw. What was your experience with occasional internet outages/ glitches?

I have had instances where the app will not connect to the camera and have had to power cycle to get it to play nice again. However, I am not able to speak to if this was after a power outage or glitch. If after an outage everything would have rebooted so it should be a clean reconnect. A glitch I could see more likely causing an issue. For $20 I don't believe that is a critical flaw, maybe for what usage case you want sure, totally get that! There are other options that may be better suited for that but Wi-Fi dying or glitching is typically a flaw of any device (other than laptop\computer\phone) that uses Wi-Fi

Right now, they do not, just email notifications. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they did have some solution in the future.

The Pan does have a thread mount on the bottom so you can mount it to a tripod, like I did. So in theory, any wall style mount that the camera could screw onto while still having free range of motion, you should be fine.

It would work just fine for that yeah. The IR lights that help with night vision do not play well with windows though. If you have outdoor lighting it wouldn't be so bad. You could even buy an IR light to put outside to help illuminate the outside so the cameras sees everything OK.

Memory: I have two V1 originals and I use a 128GB high-speed card in both. So my continuous recording is about a week. I read that someone had used these higher GB cards and that they work. They do. I don't know why Wyze is still using the 32GB number. However, I don't know if they work in V2 or the Pan, but that's my experience with the V1s. Tks.

Yes you can view live footage. What it saves depends on if you have triggered events or continuous recording turned on

Hey! Unfortunately no, still only 12 seconds. If you have it record continuously it would of course catch everything before, during and after said event.

Hey Diego, you can definitely play the recordings in the app if you like. If you want to play it on PC, you can plug the SD card into a card reader and pull the files right off of it. So you can have it both ways!

Curious - what does the solid blue light and a flashing blue light mean on the camera?

I haven't really paid much attention to the light but my assumption is that solid blue reflects that it is connected to wi-fi and good to go. Flashing blue likely means it is ready to be configured and is in setup mode. This is typically what all smart home tech uses as an indicator.

Initial configuration needs to be done on wifi. After that, you can access everything via 4G

Good review! Thanks. There are a lot of negative reviews on Amazon about privacy. They say that the cam continues to record when turned off (presumably, turned off in the app). Have you come across this issue? I’m wondering if this is true or whether some of these reports are based on user misconceptions or misconfiguration.

Hey Philip - There is some negative views on Wyze as at one time, and maybe still is, traffic from your cameras will go to China. On the r\wyzecam\ subreddit Wyze explains that this traffic is only for notification reasons. Alert detected on the camera -> got pushed to AWS cloud -> Cloud generates notification message (text only, no video) and pass to a messaging server -> the server pushes notifications to your phone. When it comes to recording when turning the camera off, I have never had a reason to do this so I cannot confirm if it still in fact records but I honestly can't see why it would, on purpose, it defeats the purpose of on\off. I trust Wyze, some people don't trust brands, I don't blame them but I am not personally concerned by their practices.

Hey John, I don't have any experience with the Yi cameras. I really like Wyze. I'd look at the features both offer and choose off that. I'm personally sticking with Wyze. Good luck!

Thanks for commenting Allen, however, I am unsure if the Pan has this capability. The Cam V2 does, with a special firmware and there are plenty of other videos that explain that process for you. The pan, though, I don't believe has this special firmware.

Outdoor cam is supposed to come this year, keep an eye out! If you download the RTSP firmware you can access footage in browser but I've never used it.

It’s me again, Aaron! My husband asked the question if we could both download the Wyze App to our smartphones and control the same device and would we both receive the same notifications. Or, is the system set up to recognize only one smartphone?

Yes, I have the app, have am the "owner" of everything and can share the devices to my wife's account via the app. She can view footage, live footage, turn things on and off etc. You can also get notifications also

When you mention Sim I assume you mean micro sd but if the wifi disconnects and you have no card....there isnt anywhere for that footage to go

Depending on what you are wanting notified of, I definitely think it would work. You can set up zones to ignore if a certain spot has more action that you want to ignore.

Once connected to wifi during initial configuration, it'll remain connected permanently. Doesn't matter if you're home or not

I honestly don't know why it wouldn't work like that. It will only connect to 2.4 GHZ wifi and not 5.0 GHZ, if that could be why?

Hey DJ, the 14 days is a rolling 14 days so it will always record online, just whatever is recorded on the 15th day will overwrite what was recorded on that first day. That make sense?

Maybe I’ve missed this info in all the videos I’ve watched, but can you set your Wyze Cam Pan to come on and cut off at a certain time? I’m now retired and spend more time at home. Would like the option of on/off; don’t want to record me walking through the house ...alldaylong... Mostly need this at night while asleep or when away from home. How about it? What say you? 😁

From what I can tell, I've not done this myself, you cans set times/a schedule as to when events are recorded. This isn't the same as turning off the actual camera but it wouldn't record anything if during that time. I believe an app like IFTTT may be able to do what you're wanting but I have zero experience with that setup. Good luck!

I'm looking for a affordable security system. So far I've narrowed it down to Arlo, wyze and cobra. The features I need are motion detection, night vision, playback for more than 3 hours and no monthly fee. My fiance left me 4 weeks ago so it's just me and my daughter living in our house. We live in a wooded area so I want to feel as safe as I can. What would you recommend? I have no idea how to set up surveillance cameras so the easier installation the better. I have a few tech savvy friends that offered to help put them in though if needed. You seem to know a lot about this topic so I'd like to here what camera(s) you recommend. I hope that you were able to find a solution that worked well for you, regardless if it was Wyze. I hope you and your daughter are doing well. If you for some reason haven't gotten a camera of any kind, I do 100% still recommend Wyze.

@@AaronWilhelm Wow it's crazy that I wrote that a year ago. Time goes by way too fast! My daughter and I are doing good, thank you for asking ☺️ I ended up getting the Arlo cameras. I originally bought 3 but added 3 more later on. They do have a little delay, but that's to be expected with a wireless security system. I love that I can put these just about anywhere too. I have one mounted on the side of my huge evergreen on the side of my house. I bought some camouflage duct tape and I'm going to wrap it around the camera to conceal it even more. I considered buying the camo skins, but I heard people complain about the lip of the skin blocking the view of the camera. Eventually I want to get a wired security system that records 24/7. Arlo does have 24/7 recording available now I can't remember how much it is a month? Hope you're doing good. Take care.

They do have a new firmware fork that enabled RTSP which will give you the type of functionality you are wanting on your PC. However, it is a different fork of the firmware that doesn't get as updated as frequently etc. Enabling this can be done in the app.

You do have the ability to share specific devices, any or all by going to Account and then Sharing. I have all our devices shared with my wife so she can view and control items.

It's definitely not recommended but I bought an enclosure on Amazon and have mine outside now. Working fine and its been through a few rain storms now. However, hard to tell how long that will last. The enclosure I bought ended up being Silicon and not like a hard shell like the cases I bought for my V2's.

It never runs out. It's a rolling 2 weeks. Day 15 deletes day 1 footage and so on.

V2 doesn't move, I understand what you mean but it does have a motor in it. I would expect a V2 Pan at some point. Wyze has not announced one or anything, just makes sense in the future.
