+1 for this review. I've got 8 of the v2s and a pan/tilt unit, and I was able to catch a guy breaking into my garage last weekend and call the cops, he left before they arrived, but they caught him within 45min and I was able to get all my stuff he took returned the same day. My wife used to call me paranoid, and said I was wasting money on the cameras... This is no longer the case.

Thank you for commenting Matt! I'm sorry you had to deal with that but glad you were able to call the cops and get your stuff back. I recently reviewed the Pan and with Wyze having released a mounting kit for it....I am thinking of mounting it outside (curious how it'll work). Do you have yours mounted or are they just pointing through windows etc?

@@AaronWilhelm I've got the pan mounted inside my garage, I have it pointed at the man door, but I can see the entire garage by panning it slightly either way. I've got 5 v2 cameras outside installed with enclosures I've bought off Amazon, they seem to work ok, the cameras have seen rain and snow and down to -30 deg c without issues so far.

Being in law enforcement for 25 years I would not call you paranoid and there is nothing like a photo or video when it comes to catching criminals and prosecution of a case.

This was very helpful. Living alone and never being home scares me. Especially with my KZfaq equipment being in my apt unattended for weeks at a time while I’m away for my main line of work. I hit that sub and dropped a like.

You can add detection zones to avoid being notified of every little thing. Plant moving , fan etc

Robin Wenz under detection settings there is an option to create a detection zone. It will only look for motion in that box you draw.

Nice review, I like your genuine personality. And, I'm impressed you've responded to so many questions! I run a small noprofit foster home based kitten rescue and need to replace a free/old/cruddy camera from MeShare that is no longer supported. One feature that company provided me with in the past was the ability to share live kitten footage with a potential adopter. I guess any video conference program could work just fine utilizing my phone or webcam, but it would be neat if I could share a live feed link with someone. Any thoughts on where I can even look find that ability/service?

Thank you for taking the time to comment and noticing all the comments, it takes a good amount of time! So the Wyze cameras definitely are not that solution as you would have to share camera feeds with someone and then revoke that permission when applicable....just seems like a clunky/inefficient method. Other than an option like doing a Skype call on your phone with the interested party or something along those lines, like you mentioned, I'm not sure what else would make sense for you, I haven't looked too in depth into that.

Based on this and other reviews regarding this product I ordered one from Amazon and it arrived yesterday. My security system is from Comcast and I already have three cameras inside my house but thought I would add one to the garage. I set it up which only took a few minutes (biggest issue I had was locating the setup button on the bottom after the stand is extended). WHAT AN AMAZING CAMERA FOR A VERY REASONABLE PRICE AND QUALITY NOT TO MENTION IT IS FEATURE RICH!!! Love is so much I ordered three more this morning one of which is the Wyze Pan Cam. Thanks for your review and for convincing me to make the purchase.

Comcast tech was at the house today working on my cable and I showed him the Wyze cams he was impressed and said they were as good as Comcast and I said no they are better. He said better then mine but the new ones are as good and I said Comcast needs to replace mine then and he said they won’t if they are not broke.

Hi Aaron! Awesome review, thank you so much! One thing I didn't understand was those 14 days of free cloud. Does that mean the first 14 days are free and then paid or 14 days of recorded video at anytime, where if you have more than 14+ days of footage it just deletes the oldes one, to make room for the next 14 days. Also, can you set it up to store it on a server (as in an old laptop)? How big of a micro SD card it supports? Thanks again!

Thank you Sonya! Official support for SD card is 32 GB through MANY are using cards larger than that without issues. No, you are not able to save footage to an onsite server, currently. Also, after the 14th day, the 1st day it recorded, that footage will be deleted to make room for the 15th. On the 16th day the 2nd day will be erased, its a rolling 14 days.

Hey Matt, I never had this issue but my assumption would be, if you are relying on cloud only storage.... You'd have nothing to show for during that time. If you also have an SD card though, it would make sense that the card would still record what's going on. I can confirm with Wyze if you'd like. Thanks for stopping by!

These cameras work with ifttt. In my house for example, when the camera detects a smoke alarm sound it turns all my house lights on. You could also have it text/email you when it detects smoke.

Hey Aleks! If you have continuous recording on then you can see everything the card has on it via the app. If you pull the SD card from the camera then you can see all the individual file names. Via the app all you can delete, I believe, is the entire card by formatting it

Hey! Actually I use 'Cammy' which I believe is an Australian brand, but they are available in the UK too. I've had many cameras fail, and I've spent a huge chunk of cash over the last few years on their monthly fees. I'm 100% sold on WYZE. Hope they get their cameras to the UK soon 😁🙏🏻

I may have missed hearing what you say about this, can it video there a window? I bought and returned a Blink set up because the motion detection didn't work with the camera pointing out the window.

It works fine through a window, you'd want to turn off the night vision though so the IR lights don't cause a glare. If you have porch lights then that's no problem.

Sorry for the delay in reply! No cost, ever. It only keeps 14 days in cloud, no way of keeping it longer there.

Purchased one before going on vacation and the Mrs thought I was just buying more gadgets, then I showed her an image of the house and now she has the app on her phone to also monitor. Wyze is a great way to get started with home security, they are releasing new products all the time.

@@AaronWilhelm I don't use twitter at all didn't really get it, and I'm on a military base for the last 5 years and this is the 1st time that this has happened! If I do catch them they will be facing at 2-3 federal charges, and military police have been notified, right now we are setting up old cellphones for recording to a cloud.

Hey Paul, If you check out the Wyzecam subreddit, Wyze did an AMA around the privacy concerns if I am not mistaken. I believe the concern that was brought up isn't something you need to actively be worrying about. I don't personally, but making that educated decision yourself, is always best.

Luka, you don't have to pay anything, unless you choose to. Out of the box, nothing charges you anything.

Great review, but I have a quick question: Do we have to use Wyze's subscription-based storage? Can't we just utilize a micro SD card and forego their paid storage service?

There is no subscription based storage. After you pay for the camera, that is all you pay. No monthly\yearly fees after that. You can use teh SD card, yes, but triggered event footage goes to the cloud automatically and is held for 14 days, no charge.

@@UriyahYasharal the 14 day period is how long each video is held (supposedly) before it gets deleted. It's not a trial period. I say supposedly because all of the videos in event log suddenly disappear without warning every few days. I wouldn't rely on them being there when you need them. Record to SD.

I’m a dummy when it comes to all this tech stuff I ordered mine yesterday and was wondering if I put a micro sd card will i get all of the recording including the 12 seconds that’s sent to the cloud or do I only get to Choose one option ?

With SD card you can do triggers only or record all the time, which would include the triggered events.

My understanding is that Wyze uses Amazon's Web Services to hose the information. The info is relayed through China but I don't believe the actual information is saved there. They have posted about it on reddit. Search for Wyze China and you can find thread after thread on it. Wyze has replied with the reasoning behind it as well.

Hi Edgar! So the "filming' portion is basically is on all the time or the camera is turned off, which is a manual thing. However, you can set a schedule for "Event Recordings" meaning though the stream would be going all the time, no "Events" will be recorded. So kind of yes and no? Does that help?

Actually read the terms of use on their site. They do this at this price because they own the video you capture with the camera. They have all rights to it. So if you forget it is pointing somewhere and you walk past naked, they own nude video of you. You can’t force them to truly delete it. They can keep or sell it too. Read Terms of Use and Terms of Service people...

Aaron Wilhelm the difference being “terms of USE” vs “terms of SERVICE”. Plenty of cam systems don’t require the use of a cloud service and therefore avoid the requirement to give 100% of the activity in your home as past of the payment. Your lack of concern or failure to recognize the value of privacy worries me. These companies not only can see and hear EVERYTHING in your home in real-time but also archival. They have no incentive to patch and secure the camera which makes for easy targets as botnet hosts. There ARE companies with TOS that aren’t invasive. Maybe if you read them you would know which they are. Assuming they are all evil and perpetuating that to your audience is not only incorrect, it’s harmful. Just food for thought... since your comment was so dismissive I don’t see why you would care if you are misleading anyone.

Hello Aaron, please speak to using the Wyze Cam v2 in Manual mode. Manual mode means: No WiFi. No 2.4 GHz connection. Manual mode means: 120 Volts AC to power brick to cable to Wyze Cam v2 to 32 GB micro SD card. When something of interest happens you pull the micro SD card out of camera and insert micro SD card into a Windows computer. Aaron: What type of file is stored on 32 GB micro SD card? Is it MP4? Does GOM 2.3.32.5292 or VLC 3.0.6 play back data stored on 32 GB micro SD card? Does playback software say Video Info. Output size = 1280 x 0720 ? or 1920 x 1080 ? Aaron, in your opinion, does above Manual mode eliminate privacy concerns? Privacy concerns means some folks are concerned the company owns the video you capture with camera. Their concern is company can keep or sell video in the: Terms of Use (ToU) and Terms of Service (ToS). Aaron, please speak to above Manual Mode. Please offer your insights about using Wyze Cam v2 in Manual Mode. Thank you for posting video on Wyze Cam v2. --

Hi there! I'm sorry, but I am not going to be able to do all of that testing for you. You can go to the /r/wyzecam subreddit and likley find your answer there. However, I have had a friend use his Wyzecam as a dash cam of sorts, meaning no wifi and using a portable power bank for power and he was able to pull video off of it no problem, even included in a video he made. When it comes to privacy, I honestly challenge you to find a company that has cloud storage that doesn't enable that company to own the footage. The playback of the video clip(s) would be in whatever definition you have them set as in the app. I have mine as 1080 so when I'd pull the SD card, it would be 1080.

I have two Wyze Cams with one pointing out a window at the driveway so we can see the activity and one pointing out a bedroom window at the back deck entrance. They work great. I was going to add one more to point at my sump pump in the crawl space using the night vision feature. This is a hard to access spot so I can monitor it when we have a lot of rain. I have a water alarm next to it so I can set the Wyce Cam to detect that alarm and notify me if it ever goes off.

I'm sorry, I'm calling BS on most of this you stated. I just bought two of these and most of the time they don't detect motion and even when they do they might not send the notification and if they do send it, there is a 2-12 minute lag. You state it worked EVERY time in this video...I would love for you to make a video with zero editing and prove to me it works EVERY single time, cause I'm not seeing it on my set up. For $20 sure it does some things that might make it worth $20, but not for real security, it can't be trusted IMO.

@@iKingRPG thanks for the heads up, I will try this before returning them this weekend. I still find many other issues with IR distance as it's no where near 30 feet they claim. I just find it amazing how I could possibly get 2 bad cameras and all these other people don't have issue. I also have yet to see a full on test video proving this all works and the specs are correct. Maybe you can point me to one?

Love wyze devices. I was an early backer from the beginning and now have 8 v2 cameras, 2 wyze pan, more contact and motions than I can count. Now I'm waiting on my door lock and am super excited about the outdoor cam and doorbell. The scale will be pretty cool too I hear.

Yes it would be cool if it was compatible with smartthings but I guess I a way it kinda is when you create virtual switches and use ifttt. The bulbs are the only device I haven't gotten because I already have a bunch of smart bulbs I had purchased before they came out. May still get a couple though. I wish they would do an RGB bulb. The only thing I worry about with wyze is them selling out to a bigger company. Kinda like how Amazon bought ring and blink. I'm honestly surprised Amazon hasn't bought wyze yet. The second that happens though the product won't be the same and neither will support.

As a rule of thumb, I don’t trust a review on a product where the reviewer thanks the company for sending them the product and promotes a sales link within the first 20 words of a review. Where’s the impartiality? Understand you’ve got to make money to keep producing these videos, but the full video should be the sales pitch, not the opening statement.

As a rule of thumb, I'd watch the entire review, hear said reviewers opinion on said product before reading the description and judging where they put the link to the product. If that's all you took away from my video, you've missed the entire point of watching review videos.

They might be. Wyze has developed custom software for them compared to the Xioami systems on the market using the same hardware. For the price you can't beat it, literally.

Hey, thanks for the comment! The short answer is no you cannot. If you want to isntall their seperate firmware it will give you the ability to do this but it removes quick firmware upgrades as it is a seperate fork to just enable this feature and not developed as much

There is a 5 minutes of cool down period for cloud recording. Very insecure and easy to circumvent. Continuous recording is to SD card which can be deleted and disabled easily on prem by anyone. This review fails to call this out. The reviewer is likely bought and paid for by sponsors. Also completely clueless about what he’s reviewing and endorsing. It’s a US based company that’s somehow routing their data through China. This reviewer is akin to a dive bar bartender reviewing complex medical equipment. Mind as well get a monkey to review Michelin Star restaurants.
