Very excellent video. I just changed the shock on my 06 road Star and I was able to do the whole job without taking anything off but the horn. I didn't have to take off the rear tire if you lift the shock up in the rear after the front drops and give it a little turn it'll fall right out

I'm just learning to start working on my own bike so this might sound stupid. It would have been nice to see you remove the shock after you removed the tire. I'm sure it was simple but I've never done it and I'm trying to watch these videos to see if I can handle it. Also, I find it helpful if you record the part where you go to the bolt. Just cutting the video to a close up of a bolt makes it difficult for idiots like me to see where you are working. Other than that, I think your video was very helpful. Thank you for posting.

I see the message on the swingarm about too loud too bad. unfortunately for us motorcyclists that is very true and it is catching up with us right now. There are state and national parks here in the United States that ban all road motorcycles from the parks.. they cannot have a Ranger with a decibel meter at the entrance to every national park so they just ban every motorcycle to be fair. There are cities in Canada that you cannot ride a motorcycle through on the roads. If you are caught, define was $500 per motorcycle, payable now, and you can’t pay and drive away on your motorcycle. You have to hire a towing company to transport your motorcycle out of the city limits to continue your trip. They don’t like loud pipes either for decades now, every motorcycle sold in the United States has a warning stamped into the standard exhaust pipes/mufflers warning that it is a federal offense to alter or remove the standard exhaust system. I hope all the people that change their exhaust systems still have their original mufflers because they are going to need them. The feds are going to implement /Require inspection and testing to ensure that the exhaust systems are within EPA compliance. Recently, Harley Davidson was fined $12 million, and ordered by the federal government to buy back all 340,000 modification kits they sold at their Harley Davidson dealerships to bypass the EPA approved turning of the fuel injection systems on their motorcycles.. Master bike builder Jesse James was fined $400,000 by the feds for making and selling bikes that were not approved by the federal government on emissions. The same thing happened to Steve McQueen‘s buddy, Malcolm Smith for selling Chinese imported motorcycles without federal EPA approval.. I have never flashed a computer if you were injection system on any of my motorcycles, I have never altered an exhaust system on any of my motorcycles over the past five decades. I learned decades ago, that the factory knows more about how am I machines should operate than i do.. if you have a problem with drivability, hesitation, hard starting, overly rich exhaust, backfiring, surging, poor gas mileage, and you have made many many changes to the fuel injection, the airbox, the exhaust system,,There is no way you can get back to the baseline of settings.. you can sit down with the factory service manual, open it up to troubleshooting, and start running down the checklist of tests, and if you’ve altered those systems, you might as well throw that manual away because it won’t help you. You cannot get back to the baseline of how things should read on the meters you use for testing, because you’ve changed everything..Do you think it makes more power because it’s loud, but that’s not true. I proved that to myself when I roadraced motorcycles..When I first started racing, I always blamed the motorcycle when I did not win. It couldn’t possibly be me I thought. But once I realized, that it was not the machine that was slow, it was me. I left my machines totally stock and I won six road racing championships, and I was national champion two times on a totally stock running machine.. I was often protestant which means other racers in my race would put up money to have my engine partially torn down to make sure I was within specifications after winning my races. The main reason they did not believe my machine was stock is, my racing weight was 196 pounds wearing my leathers and helmet. Some of my competitors on exactly the same machines weighed 140 lbs, yet, on the long top speed straightaways, I would have two or 3 mph on them, which is a brisk walking pace. After a 15 lab sprint race, that means I would be 45 seconds ahead of second place. The reason I was ahead of them, is because they modified their motorcycles, they dialed their bikes out with modifications, Instead of leaving their machine just as it left the factory so they would have good reliability, dependability, and just learn how to ride just a tiny bit better instead.. So back in my racing days is when I learned, the factory knows best. Just leave it alone,, it’s just fine to use better tires, better suspension components, better brakes, change the gearing, jet the carburetors for altitude extremes,(you make the most power at sea level, you lose power in the higher in elevation you go, formula one cars lose over 100 hp when they race in high elevations like Mexico City)… anyway, soon the feds are coming after all those loud pipes and flash computers. You better hang onto your stock mufflers they are going to be more valuable than those aftermarket pipes soon.. things will be unfortunate for the people that bought Jet kits for their bikes with carburetors back in the 90s, because a lot of those jackets required drilling to the carburetor bodies that can’t be reversed.. I didn’t do it but overall as a motorcyclist we did this to ourselves with our loud pipes. Loud pipes do not save lives, loud pipes get you kicked out of parks, and cities, and bring down the feds on us all.. My wife and I have long time motorcycle friends that live in a 55+ community meaning you have to be 55 years old at least to live there. One of the HOA regulations for most of these 55+ communities is, you cannot keep your motorcycle at home or anywhere in the 55+ complex. The reason, loud pipes. I have friends in New York state, and friends in Florida that have motorcycles that they have to keep in a storage facility because they live in 55+ neighborhood. The irony is, they own gold wings.. Gold wings are quieter than cars. But they cannot be discriminatory or exercise selective discrimination. They have to do a flat ban on all motorcycles to be fair. this even applies to electric motorcycles that make no sound at all.. We did this ourselves
