What I learned from listening to the audio version of his book is to not postpone doing things that brings you joy because your health will decline due to aging to the point you won't be able to. Obviously, using money as tool to achieve this is not possible if you are living paycheck to paycheck just to pay for living expenses. Although I admire his achievements and he makes good points in his book, it is not for those who are struggling financially.

You’re probably over-saving and under-living and may not even realize it. My husband and I were both divorcees when we met and married in my 40s in his 50s. Our love story is something I could’ve never dreamed or imagined. Every single day with him feels like heaven on earth, and when I met him, I was used to working and saving so I had amassed a small amount of wealth. On the other hand, he is a retired veteran and likes to spend money so we meet harmoniously in the middle. As I was reading this book, I realized that the next 10 years of my life with my husband needs to be filled with rich experiences, international travel and building fun memories. The money I was saving for retirement is now going into beautiful experiences because we are fully funded for retirement. We are blessed to be at a younger age, than most, and not have financial worries. I’m so grateful I read this book because it has enriched our already sweet marriage and transformed it into something even greater. I also have committed to helping my adult children even more. I’ve already provided a down payment for a home, awaiting one with college, paying for a wedding and helping overall when there is a need. This book is for those that have saved enough to enjoy life and be generous.

I get what he is saying and he is absolutely right. There are seasons of life and you should enjoy your youth because lethargy does start setting in in your 50's. In life you want to minimize regrets and get all you can out of it. You want to make memories because in the end that's all you're going to have.

I would highly suggest that you go out and get with all of your money that you have a full suspension electric bike that way you don't prematurely mess up your back put a real nice fat seat on it so it's really comfortable and ride around on your bike you will get exercise because you could do pedal assist and you will stay in shape you will see things and you could go far you could buy extra battery packs this is the best thing for people with money to do it will keep your body in shape and you can go and do things that you normally wouldn't be able to do using electricity to help you.

I got comfortably rich at 40 and wish I'd had it when I was younger. Not because of the expensive things I can buy but because of the time it's given me to make real friends. Something I didn't have when younger. Luckily I spent a lot of my 20s and 30s, including a working gap year+1/2 in 2008-2010, travelling around the world. If I'm honest it was largely because I found it easier to meet people whilst backpacking or doing adventurous adrenaline sports than the unattractive alternative which mostly revolved around alcohol which I never found enjoyable. I ended up with people I'd met scattered around the world but with most dissolving I recognised that I needed another gap year spent in one place to build up deeper connections. It's been great and I feel almost as young as a result. The only sadness being that I didn't find the communities back when I was first looking for them and the pandemic hit my fitness hard.

*Money, time, health* ...What does it take to achieve the old goals of becoming healthy, wealthy, and wise? You say it is a tradeoff between money and time, time with family is better than money for one's aged child. >>>>>>>>>>>>> *These are the problems of the idle rich.* Wisdom is knowing how the fight against poverty pays dividends for everyone, like Mr. Yang has preached. note: *Think about balancing the idea of UBI with the FJG.* Basic income frees the individual worker so that he can spend time helping his family. Federally funded/guaranteed jobs in the public sector are needed to keep the worker who loses his private funded job from losing the right to productive work with a living wage. This is the most important thing for a nation to remain strong.

Another thing that you are not taking into effect is that every time that you do something you learn something new every single day and that decreases how fun things are to you because the more that you know the less fun that you're going to have in the world. Just imagine when you were a kid how entertained you were with the most simplistic things the more you do the more money you have to do the more money you need to spend to do more enjoyable things because you've done everything.

I don’t think it is though. He’s not saying to go blow everything you have. An experience for a millionaire will obviously be different that one with not a huge amount to play with. It’s about ratios. You should save and invest, but also make memories. An example would be the curent millionaire can go to Mykonos, while the person who is not quite there can take a few days in Florida. Both still fun just different ratios. But the non millionaire is still investing and may reach that point at some time and go if they want. But they shouldn’t miss out on small splurges when you can afford to do it a little.

I have to disagree with the Statement Money cannot be used for the activities you desired when young because you are too old to enjoy it. This is a statement from selfishness. The money you have accumulated can be used to enjoy having your children and even their children your grandkids along with you participating in a less active state doing those same outdoor active ventures. Sharing your accumulated money for those less affluent to have the same desires fulfilled by 2 further generations. Obviously Bill Perkins sees life only through his Hedge Fund Monetary state of wealth and not the general listeners gathering of excess funds I concede I typed this comment only 55 seconds into the clip. If there is some way you can ensure Bill Perkins reads this, I think that would be very important. Firstly as a disclaimer, while I do think Bill's ideas are insanely harmful, I believe in free speech and so I believe he has a right to express them. I am only providing what I believe to be necessary feedback. I will try to remain relatively calm but I have to admit I find what he says hugely upsetting. Ok, now my actual feedback: Yang often expresses that he cares about mental health, and the mental health of young men. As a relatively young man and obviously a younger one in the past. I have to say Bill's ideas are mental health poison. I've had severe clinical depression since adolescence. I have anxiety issues and mild autism. So needless to say when high school came around and a new type of socializing of parties and flirting became something some people did, I wasn't part of that. It didn't make sense to me and I didn't want to socially transgress so I didn't behave in a way I felt was reckless. This is, in Bill's eyes, apparently a character flaw for which I am entitled to far less happiness in life. I remember even being 16 and having regrets about not having the fun I was "supposed to have". As the years went on this regret grew into a lingering and growing feeling of damnation and hopelessness. Indeed I went through highschool never going to wild parties, never having "crazy fun", never going on dates, or even being kissed. And in my mind was this growing idea of "I've missed out, there was fun I was 'supposed' to have that everybody else has, that I haven't and never will have." This thought followed me to college, where things only got much much worse. I was debilitated by this pain of regret, by this hopelessness. I didn't have the experiences I "should have had" (as Bill and society would put it). And so I knew I wasn't "normal". I didn't belong. People wouldn't want to know me because how could they, there was clearly something wrong with me. That is the lesson you internalize when society and people like Bill tell you that life experiences have a right sequence and timestamps. And because of internalizing that belief college went by just the same: isolation, no parties, no dates, emotional/physical intimacy, or romantic encounters of any kind. Now, Yang says he cares about depression, and I believe him. As somebody very very familiar with it first hand, let me explain an important thing about it. Basically all chronic depression involves some kind of "limiting belief". If somebody has severe chronic depression, it is basically a certainty that they carry with them a debilitating and emotionally distressing limiting belief. For many severely depressed people such a belief is so ingrained that they aren't even aware of it. Trust me, a person can believe "everybody hates me" with the same level of intellectual and emotional conviction that they believe in the presence of gravity itself. I had a few of these things like "everybody hates me", "I don't belong anywhere", "nobody can like me", "nobody can or ever will find me attractive or romantically desirable", etc. All of this is relevant because I'd say the belief that might have been at the core of it all was the belief that Mr. Perkins and Yang are repeating with conviction at chuckles: Life experiences have certain times and places, normal people experience them, and those who miss them will never be able to make up for that. In short: "Your age determines what life experiences you can have and should have had, and if you miss out: You are doomed." Bill likely thinks his message is an inspiring message to "live for today, kids". But it's the exact opposite for even a teenager with a single major regret. The moment your age ticks past a number that Bill and society says it needs to be at, he and the rest of the fun police will say "You wanted/needed a certain kind of fun in your life? Too bad! You missed it and IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX." This is mental health poison. You are worried about the mental health of young men? Well even an 17 year old one who is struggling is going to have some regrets and some reason to feel they are hopeless and have missed out forever. And Bill is all but insisting that such mindset is "right". Also, I can't even imagine being 36 and hearing him and Yang chortle about this. Let's say you are 36 and are finally breaking out of half a life of depression and hopelessness. Many many years where you didn't have any of the "normal" life experiences at their normal times because you were struggling just to exist. What should such a person do, Mr. Perkins? Just fucking kill themselves or something? Surely if they have escaped that depression through the belief that they "can have the fun or excitement they missed out on in the past", you are insisting that they are wrong. This is what I'm talking about when I say it's mental health poison. The ONLY reason I've turned my depression around at all is because I rejected the idea that "I've missed out and I can never make it right." That idea poisoned my mind and made it impossible to have fun when I was a teen or early 20s. This "empowering" mindset Bill is pushing can and will (if it gains any traction) do the exact opposite in the minds of young people. Let alone how ageist and damning it is for people over 35 who are still fairly young in the grand scheme of things. The only way I get through the day not being crippled and debilitated by sadness is by telling myself "yes, you may have not had the fun or experiences you wanted to have. Indeed, you may have not been truly happy since you were a child. But maybe in this next month you might have at least one good day, one moment of fun, one meaningful happy life experience." According to Bill, if that experience is allocated by age to a person even slightly younger than me, than that hope can fuck off and I need to "face reality" and accept misery. If Mr. Perkin's goal is to inspire hope and better lives he needs to know the horribly negative way his message in his current form is. Because I can tell you it is EXACTLY the kind of message that infected my brain and destroyed my teens and early young adult life. And will continue to destory my life moving forward if I let it. And I'm quite confident that if anybody who is in the mindset I was when I was 20 heard Bill's message, it could push them down the same horrible path of chronic severe depression that idea pushed me down. Thank you for hearing me out. I truly hope somebody makes sure Bill hears this, because I think it's very important he knows how dangerous and harmful this idea he is pushing is.
