Here we have the oldest bus on my lot. A 1991 Bluebird bodied International. A true antique.

Man, you just don't find school buses like these anymore! With all that metal and stuff, these buses were like tanks except no caterpillar tracks and gun turret. I highly doubt if school districts use buses like these much anymore for spares but they should. Older vehicles do last longer but I get they don't last forever but we try to make them last. Its just the time, effort and as always money to find parts and stuff, but thanks for sharing this interesting footage of this old bus.

Gotta love that all steel dash. The jack knife doors are something I would like to see more often, but they don't make them anymore because they are a pain to clean. But if you want a new bus with a manual door, the Bluebird Visions still have them. I don't know why but they do.
@smorris281 Жыл бұрын
As far as I know, you can still spec a manual door on an International/IC.

My school has 2 1992 international blue birds there spares and have manual transmissions were you have to shift it your self but there nice buses I have rode both of them and one of them my bus driver uses when she needs it and it is a feild trip bus so it gets use often but older buses are cooler to me
@silly_cartoonlover3 жыл бұрын
Same here :o I've rode one for these but its not that old. I also have seen a new model of busses at my school. Its newer, and the front is flat. I wish I could ride on the flat busses more becuase there so interesting! And the international blue birds probably got replaced with those flat busses. RIP international bluebirds ? - 2020 / 2021

I rode a Blue Bird like that in elementary school. It was a 92 model and had the kill switch. The only year my county opted for hydraulic brakes on busses too. There was a level for the parking brake on the left side instead of the air brake.

We have lots of these. Most of them receive daily service. They have the mechanical T444 (7.3L idi) We even have some 89's still in service.

The same is true in Maryland (in fact, up to 2011). While it wouldn't be used in student service - except for churches - I could see it used in "skoolie" or even "replica" service (I will have to dig into Maryland vehicle laws regarding "replica" painting and ex-school buses- any Crown - for example - would qualify for "historic" tin - and none ever did duty in the Old Line State).

Gwinnett County, Georgia is the largest school district in the state and 12th in country and we still are RUNNING buses from 1987!!! with 1/3 of the fleet being older then 15 years!!!

yeah, im right below you in rockdale county, our oldest is a '93 and is still used by reg. route drivers, our district has only bought 15 new buses is the last 4 years, all but 4 were SPED buses and our 05' and '06 are all nearing 200,000 as is and

We used to have a few international bluebirds probably from the 2010s cause a tornado hit our school and we probably had some of those on the lot buuuut now those busses are replaced with flat nose busses. I've rode one of these busses, a flat nose, and two other busses. We have three kinds of busses plus one smaller one on the fleet. Very interesting. I think the ones I've rode are pretty old, but not this old. Probably from the 2000s.
@The_A_Cast4 жыл бұрын
I remember the busses in Lawrence County, Ky. used the year model of the bus as the first 2 numbers of the bus number. Like a 2003 bus’s number would be like 034
@fordman26983 жыл бұрын
I like that numbering system better. Because unlike my home school district, which just gives buses numbers like 68 or 69, I can actually find out the year of the bus I'm riding without asking the driver.
@jcc32795 жыл бұрын
Late comment but that bus if it was mine would be enjoying retirement getting driven and would have family and friends and my dogs in the back on a long road trip. I'm only in my 20s but I love buses that are Analog with no Engine Computer BS.

Our 92's were transit style. I think they were Thomas bodies, not sure though, they've been gone for more than 10 years, we did not keep them for spares. That was the only year we bought transit type buses. 95's were Amtran.
