@@Skenjin fair enough, I think it's simply because few people consume tea in the USA, so not surprised, I come from a culture where coffee and tea are both integral to our lifestyle, but we cook our coffee over a stove, so you will find kettles but no coffee makers. A tip from a chemist. Instead of calling that glass container a test tube, I think it would be more appropriate to call it a beaker. At least it is closer in form and function to what we chemists think of as a beaker than it is to a test tube. Standard beakers come in low form and tall form. That one is taller even than a tall form, so maybe it’s a Wilt Chamberlain form beaker.

The comparison of this thing from the late 90s to "modern" coffee makers had a bit of sting to it... :D One of my strongest memories form my teen age years--in the long ago (ancient, even!) 1970s is of a moka pot that my dad forgot to put the water into. This was after a leisurely dinner with some of my parents friends and plenty of wine for the adults. Dad went to start some coffee, added the grounds, forgot the water, and put the pot on the gas stove and maxed out the heat. Further conversation ensued and nobody thought about it until the astonishingly bad smell of burned/melted aluminum, coffee grounds, and rubber gasket just permeated the house. Luckily nothing bad happened to the stove or our house. Us teen age kids learned quite quickly that teasing dad about the "coffee incident" was not nearly as fun as we thought it should be. :D

@@alajnabiya nothing from the 90s is modern, have you seen the TVs they used to make in the 90s? the 90s were 25 years ago, not 10. my parents are in their 60s and they don't consider anything modern unless it was made after 2010. so unless you are older than them, I don't think it's your age making you think microwave gadgets are modern.

I used to travel all the time for work. What works better in hotels is a double-walled steel French press (it's survived much longer than my glass ones, through kids and jobsites and travel). Nuke the water in the microwave, or bring an electric kettle. That's how I make coffee at home anyway, so it's like bringing a bit of home with me. I like mocha pot coffee (it's my second go-to method of brewing), but for some reason this strikes me as too much of a gadget. A double-walled steel French press is a work horse by comparison.

The scoop looks like it’s from the EE100 model, which pictures it on the box as the black handle part that you have, and a separate metal “bucket” that it holds Edit: I think it’s supposed to go around the coffee chamber to allow you to scoop up coffee in it, then you can remove the handle and place it in the brewer?

Speaking of microwave coffee brewers from mass-market appliance manufacturers, I’ve always been mildly fascinated when I’ve seen the Presto Myjo in the store. It’s sorta-kinda-almost-not-quite a cross between a k-cup and an aeropress. You can microwave the water reservoir (or just fill from a kettle), attach to the pod holder and seat on a mug, then force the water though with a contraption that’s more of a bellows than a plunger. K-cups aren’t for me, probably aren’t for most of the viewers onhere, but it certainly clears the low bar of the most interesting k-cup brewer as I’ve seen.

I think the picopresso is a better option for hotel rooms. It is going to give true midrange quality espresso and only needs a kettle and hand grinder. Old version the minipresso wasn't that great as it was difficult to clean and made a bigger mess while making coffee. Picopresso is harder to learn though as it has more components involved

I would never want to actually buy or use this microwave moka pot, but.... it does occur to me... you absolutely *could* make an actual compact, microwave-heated espresso maker. Seal water in a plastic chamber, heat in the microwave, take it out and put the now hot and pressurized chamber into a frame, and use that heat and pressure to make espresso. I think the engineering in safely utilizing an already hot and pressurized water chamber that has to be directly handled by the user is going to make it not a very profitable device, but it could absolutely be built if someone cared enough. It would also probably be too expensive for me to want to actually buy it, but if someone made one I'd certainly look into it.
