The norwegian people have named Fårikål as the national dish, and it even has it´s own day. It´s made from only two ingredients, and makes you fart Farmer E Postboks 145 2101 Skarnes Norway

I must say I thought this would turn out to be just boiled meat and cabbage, but then I thought “well it’s their national dish, surely they know something I don’t, they are Norwegians!”. So I went out and got all the ingredients, came home and cooked exactly as described. Well who knew, it tastes just like boiled cabbage and lamb. I mean wtf was I thinking. This is basically what you cook when you’re stranded in the fcking ice and all you have is a roadkill, a piece of cabbage and a helmet. No wonder you people hate it when you chew on a peppercorn by mistake, that’s basically the only thing in there which has any taste whatsoever which you don’t want lol. Now I’m left with a shit ton of boiled meat and cabbage on my stove and I have no other choice but to spice the living shit out of it and never take any recipe advice from a Norwegian ever again! Thanks bro!

My Dad used to make fårikål when I was a kid growing up near Toronto. My brother and I would make a game out of who could find the most peppercorns on our plates. Removing the peppercorns before serving seems somehow sacrilegious to me!

Hubby (Norwegian) loved when I made him what we call 'boiled dinner' here in America which is very similar except we use ham (essentially smoked pork), cabbage, potatoes, peeled carrots - can also put in Turnips or Rutabaga's. Personally he didn't like sheep/lamb.

My grandmother used to make corned beef and cabbage. Also with whole carrots. All the windows would be open in the middle of winter while playing card games after dinner.

Pretty easy prep and cook & looks tasty...not a bad recipe idea, but cabbage does have a smell when cooking, and usually after as well.

Science-y fact here: When you cook cabbage, the sulfur it contains MULTIPLIES! The longer it cooks the more it multiplies. It reminds me of Rotorua, every time someone cooks it. I've had this every fall here in Norway and tried to keep it as a 'tradition', but now it's just me and the kiddo and we've decided it's a waste of lamb meat. Now we make a lamb stew with a variety of veggies, sans cabbage. Also... WHAT? You guys had snow? I don't think I've seen a flake yet.
@FarmerE2 жыл бұрын
My cabbage multiplies several times, then! I cook it to pieces... Yeah, so far we´ve had one day of snow, and this was that

Sometimes I try spicing it up a bit with garlic, rosemary, or maybe onions (I know.. Heresy!), but nothing really beats the 2-ingredient-way. I guess fårikål is perfect just the way it is :')
@FarmerE2 жыл бұрын
For sure! This is the base, but i´ll have to spice it up a bit in the future!
