Nothing hurts a Wid-Westerner more than seeing someone wave as they drive the opposite way, and throwing up a wave yourself, but feeling sorry that they might not have seen your wave back.

The waving up at a plane killed me 🤣 I still do it, but the first time I was actually in a plane I thought about me waving up as a kid and feeling so disappointed that no one could actually see me. @morrigankasa570
@morrigankasa570 2 ай бұрын
As a born & raised Minnesotan, 1 of the flaws is Passive Aggressiveness. They will act polite and friendly to your face but if they are upset with you they will say or hint at it but in a Passive Aggressive none-confrontational way. Another flaw is the long goodbye, where if you say goodbye to a friend or family member generally it takes 30 minutes minimum. Finally, this video is fairly accurate for Rural/Small Town/Suburbs. But in the Urban/City environments it is much different.

The word "sorry" can have two functions. It can be an apology, or it can be an expression of empathy. If I say "I'm sorry I am late", I am apologizing for my actions. When I say "I'm sorry you feel bad", that means I understand how you feel and I am sorry for you. It doesn't mean I am apologizing for your illness. This, BTW, is not a Midwest thing. Anyone anywhere who has feelings expresses them with the word "sorry".

I'm currently trying to figure out which neighbor mowed our lawn. The first two I asked said they were going to but another neighbor beat them to it. I've been told it was an older gentleman on a rider. Which doesn't narrow it down a whole lot...

I don’t have all of this in my dna, but a lot of it is pretty hardwired. Especially saying sorry. I’ll say sorry off the cuff when someone does something wrong to me as if I’m the one at fault. I don’t even think about it. Must get pretty confusing for folks since I live in DC now.

It’s not just getting everyone a beer, it’s offering beers or burgers and hot dogs to random people walking down the street if you’re having a bbq. And yes, you have to let everyone else go first!

In the Midwest when you give the full wave or holding the wheel and give the pointer finger wave you expect something back. If not returned you instantly think not local or an asshole.
