Thanks for the info on the video Shaw, I've done 861 miles on my new SGS and never knew about the recall. As a result of seeing your video I inspected my bike and checked the VIN, my clamps looked like they had been chewed by a bull dog on speed. I took my bike straight to my dealer which is only a short distance away. On inspecting the clamps he had them all changed for new clamps and ensured that they were fitted correctly, So it's a big thank you for bringing this to my attention before any disaster occurred. Keep up the good work ..... Mark in the U.K.

Thanks for the advice. My 2017 Road King came up on the list. Technician at my dealership said that what really happened was that one of the clips was completely left off on several bikes. That's what he said.

I have a 2017 Road Glide my left lower cooler line was Dripping so I tightened it and check the rest of the clamps and pinch them down the rest of the way I found this to be way easier than going back to the dealer I don't have that kind of time or patience...

i cracked up when Shawn mentioned about Indian and their recall which was also a simple recall, i took mine in last week and there was nothing wrong. I was actually thinking of getting a 2018 HD SGS when they come out in August and my wife wanted a 2018 Heritage softail, but now that they are opening an assembly plant in Thailand, I'm done. You can bet jobs in America will be lost because of this, especially when we stop shipping to Asia , the worlds fastest and most populated market and the fast that sales are dropping in North America. I refuse to buy Harley now that they are opening a plant in Thailand, i know my bikes will be assembled in America, but they will be cutting jobs, so the hell with HD, I'm done! I will probably wait until a new 2018 Chieftain Elite version comes out again and will snap up one of those.

I'm surprised the cooler is mounted so low where the front tire spray can beat the hell out of it. I would mount it higher,in line with the top of the front fender. Looks like it would be easy to replace that cooler with an "Ultra Cool" thermostat controlled fan drive cooler !

Shawn Smoak , thanks for the update on those cooler lines. I had mine taken care of at the dealer. NOW....... have you had any issues withe the Transmission oil transfering to the Primary? I just discovered this on mine the other day and find it was all over the forums back in 6/17 to now. Sad thing is.......... H/D is not notifying M8 owners that this can happen. So M8 owners beware!!! I checked mine and the transmission had 4-5 ounces left in it after 2000 miles and the primary was overfull. I am contacting my dealer today!! Just wanted to get this out ASAP. Thanks again.

Yep mine too HD dealerships are a bunch of liars a had a 2017 SG after 400 miles all the oil out of the oil tank sumped into the primary lied to me told me i was checking it wrong just to keep an eye on it so i did had to add a qt about every 1000 miles ahter riding for the summer and putting aground 3000 mile on it all the transmission oil transfered to the primary took it back to the dealer once again they tried telling me i was checking it wrong ask them about the primary vent kit they told me sure they would install it on my dime just after the 2yr warranty was up but i also had a 2yr ESP and they still would not fix it i traded that oil sumping transmission oil trasfering piece of shit off for a 96" cable clutch street glide yeah its not a smooth and its not the Rushmore bike but i dont have to treat it like an old worn out piece of shit that i have to check ALL fuild levels everytime i want to cruise good riddance biggest 20000 dollar hunk of shit i ever bought M8 owners beware

Having worked in a Manufacturing factory (Tire) for over 30 years I understand how "things" can happen. However...I am sure that the motorcycles that are effected were Quality checked numerous times before leaving the Factory where they were made by qualified Quality technicians. I am sure Harley can and will investigate what workers and at which Plants the motorcycles the produced in and there will be meetings to ensure that this never happens again. When ever you have a 'hand made" process... there are going to be errors produced in said process because as humans we make mistakes.

Does it matter, with HD now building a plant in Thailand, all shipments to asia from America will stop, you can bet that HD will be letting people go when that plant opens especially with North American sales falling and now Asia, a fast growing market will have a plant in Thailand.

A bigger issue i see is how low to the ground and unprotected that oil radiator is,, if ya hit a piece of tire we all see in the road or other road debree That radiator is toast ,, they need to have a protective shell over that to protect it,, cause if ya open up that oil rad all that oil is gonna hit the ground at once and that my friend is a definite serious crash waiting to happen ,,, thank god i dont have none of that on my bike

Shawn, I know u have had the street glide for a while but I've debated between the Indian and Harley for a while. the one thing about the Harley is the dealerships around my area took a road King special and quoted me 26,750. Would you say that is average price?
@ShawnSmoak
@ShawnSmoak 7 жыл бұрын
+AUSTIN QUINN - Not knowing any of the details of the RKS, it's hard to say anything about that price. Base price is $22K, add custom paint bumps it up to $24,400, plus any other dealer add-on's, freight & setup and she could be that price quite easily... Have them show or explain how they come to that total, it should all make sense. That is one incredible bike though!! Man, are the gorgeous..! Thanks Austin!
@austinquinn2107
@austinquinn2107 7 жыл бұрын
yeah it was just the olive gold so 24,500 but I guess when I compare to Indian dealer it was the normal 1000 for setup with taxes I can get the chieftain for that same price. with it being such a large purchase for my first touring bike I feel a test ride is just not enough.

Instead of factory clamps , why not use regular hose clamps? Also why doesn't HD use hose clamps on their oil lines?
@richiesak3939
@richiesak3939 7 жыл бұрын
Mark Whitmarsh regular hose clamps can loosen. The theory behind these is once they're crimped it's permanent. However if they are not placed correctly in respect to the flanged end of the nipple the connection can leak. But that's the nature of any hose to nipple connection. When done correctly which is the majority of the time those clamps will never loosen and you will never get a leak

I also commented on this below, but just would like to say this is a human error. As long as humans are assembling things errors will happen that's human nature. The bigger concern I think that lies in the 17 models is the potential electrical Gremlin that seems to be creeping up. Bears Glide is shot and he's had numerous other people contact him that they're having the same problem. That's why I will never buy a first model year of anything, car ,motorcycle Etc...there's always a bug or issue that needs to be addressed no matter how many miles they put on these things in the factory. Again all designed and built by humans its in our nature to make mistakes.

+RockChalkPhX - Most recalls come about after an incident occurs or could potentially occur and the government gets involved... Very few recalls are pure voluntary by the manufacturer of the product. Product safety is very closely monitored. They watch product warranty claims for safety related items. If an incident occurs, they're all over it..! Thanks for watching!
