In my first year of actually teaching, I had to do parent-teacher interviews; and before I could even introduce myself, the mother blurted out: "I know my son's a little shit, so lets discuss how we can fix that". It was incredible to see a parent who wasn't delusional about their kid.

I'm having flashbacks to my teenage years! This was so real! One year my mum came back form parents evening and said to me 'Your form tutor is an idiot!' and I knew that this meant that she had actually said this to my form tutor! Apparently my form tutor had the audacity to say that I was a lovely student who was clearly happy at school (I wasn't, it was a bad year for me and I was very unhappy and she hadn't seen it!) The next year, when I had to go with her, I sat there as she told my maths teacher that I didn't like maths! The only problem with that (other than telling my teacher that I didn't like his subject) was that I did like maths and she had got me confused with my sister! Thanks for making me relive my school years! But I guess it did make me laugh a lot, so you're forgiven!

Yeah, I worked as an academic success coach for a while. There were some difficult children, but I'm really not interested in having you curse your child out in such a public setting. It really makes you wonder what goes on behind closed doors. Like, maybe the yelling isn't helping?

As a retired teacher I remember one parents’ evening when a mother stood up as she was leaving and said nastily “my child has hated you for the past two years!” Bear in mind that this mother had just heard me singing the praises of her 6 year old son, who was extremely bright. His work was exemplary and I’d taught him for Primary 1 and 2. The child and I had never had a cross word spoken between us. To say I was stunned would be an understatement. The only reason I can think of is that perhaps I hadn’t stood him up on a pedestal each day and told the other children to worship at his feet! The only consolation I have is that she went next to the boy’s sister’s teacher and said the exact same thing to her! She, like myself, was totally taken aback at the onslaught of venom from this woman.
