So true, but one thing that was wrong from my experience is that Anne should have been trying to push down on the touch screen with the force of 30 elephants, even after being told to do it gently.

I think it’s because old touchscreens were SUPER insensitive. I’m only 27 but I’ve experienced a few touchscreens on machines that require actual force. It’s just muscle memory for some people, I assume. Also, for older folk smartphones DO have trouble responding to their fingers. Something about less blood circulation making it more difficult to register.

This is so spot on. I bought my mum a smartphone on her last birthday and ever since, every time I visit her I have tons of requests and explanations in regard to how to use it. At first I behaved kind of annoyed, but then my mum reminded me that she was patient enough back in the days to teach me how to wipe my own ass and eat with a fork...

Ah, i also helped set up my grandma’s phone. I luckily don’t live far away (15 min). I also installed teamviewer and made a paper on how to connect it. If something is wrong with her phone a simple call via her landline to me and connecting remotely is super easy to fix issues without having to actually go there. Especially with covid when visits weren’t really possible. Stuff like turning up the volume of notifications… 3 minutes of work instead of half an hour of travel time to and back and the obligatory tea-and-chat time. Its always nice there of course, but i got stuff to do too you know.

@@dyrepoliti well, my grandparents have done a lot for me when i was younger. I could stay there when my other grandpa fell ill and died. He lived an hour away and my parents needed to be there. If my parents needed to be somewhere, they would always be there to make sure that i wasnt alone. Even now if i have any kind of problem all i have to do is go there and they'll help me to their fullest extend. Even at their age. I'll happily do whatever i can for them too. Helping with technical problems, getting some stuff from the supermarket if im in the area. Just going there for some tea once in a while, just before covid was a thing, my grandma had meningitis, a very severe case. She still cant stand noisy situations. Even driving along in the car is very strenuous for her. If i can help with some little things so she doesnt have to do those things herself, i do. Im not a saint or anything close to that, and yes, i have grumbled a little bit when she didnt always get what i was trying to say, yet i just took it and didnt show it. I do think that i can say if that more people do what i do, the world would be a little bit better.

Oisin has a long way to go before finally creating « his own » email address to attach all of his mom’s accounts and his own phone number for all the verifications so next time his mom asks him why Skype is asking her her password he can just give it to her… but Oisin is still young and has buckets and buckets of patience ☺️

Oh God, I was laughing so much! This is literally like my brother trying to explain to my father how to use the laptop. My brother gave it to him as a Christmas gift with everything fully installed. I think he still completely underestimated how trying it would be to teach him how to use it. As Anne always says: you need the patience of a saint. Let's just say, there were no saints around that day... The pain paid off, though: he's a pro now.
