Yesterday, after having only a 6 Plus, I tried the iPhone 5s and I fell in love with it. The design felt perfect, it was fast and snappy (even on iOS 12!) and the camera is pretty decent as well. When I held my iPhone 14 after using the 5s it just didn’t feel right

From my experience, this happens when you don't keep your old devices charged up. Constant current draws like the clock keeping time and even the battery management system will over time drain the cell. A lithium battery essentially dies if the voltage is allowed to drop below 3 volts. I still have both my iPhone 3GS and 4S in working condition and with their original batteries in place. No puffed cells or anything to worry about.

Just some info: This can be prevented by keeping your phone battery charged. The battery won't decay and start to swell if you keep your phone battery charged and to 100% If your battery is swollen already don't charge the battery. Plz pin this because its very important.

I remember when you unboxed this phone you had concerns of it being legit due to it being blocked, but I think that is due to AT&T blocking all iPhone 5s and 5 models from their networks because they didn’t support all the LTE features, So they just blocked all non voLTE models that still had 4G

Usually you ALWAYS unplug the battery connector first jsyk. However in this case the battery didn’t have much juice so it wasn’t a problem. You’re lucky it still works

Love the form factor of the 5s. I have ipod touch 5th gen and its slimmness always amazes me. Wish there would be slim and good battery life phone like in the past. Rather than the tablets we have today

Applying some heat to the surrounding edge of the phone (frame closest to the battery) will soften the adhesive strips and make removal much easier. A hair dryer is sufficient. This is why the sealed iPhone 2G’s going for $60k will never make sense to me. You have no idea what damage that battery will have on the phone and you’ll never know it.

Im a collector myself and same happened to my mint 3GS and my MAcBook White just a few weeks ago. These devices are getting old and the replacement batteries are getting rare. I waited 4 months to find a battery for my 3GS. iFixit had one after 4 months of waiting. However I think the logic board or the display broke when the battery swollen up as when I turn the phone on the display does not work. It turns on and it is white.

i have 2 first gen SEs: 1 of them in perfect condition and one that has the battery swelling issue. The battery swelling one was my daily driver up until three months ago until it had this issue, only now I switched from that to the 13, i do plan to go to my local phone repair place and have the battery changed out + have screen fixed since the top right corner is cracked

Even if you use your iPhone 4 kind of often, or you charge it every 3-6 months, it is less likely to expand

I moved house recently and after a few devices sat in storage for a while, I had at least 3 of my devices start swelling, one of which being an old broken MacBook Pro I forgot I owned and a iPhone 6 & iPhone 8 battery, check up on those batteries.

If you let your battery sit at 0% charge for an extended period of time, this can happen

My iphone 7 and 5c stil is not swelled up possibly because it was left discharged!

I literally hate my iPhone 8 nowadays. The days went by, and I still didn’t even get an opportunity to get my iPhone 8 repaired yet. It’s still gonna be repaired in a repair shop no matter what, and then I’ll continue using it until it is time to upgrade my iPhone. Yes I am considering for an iPhone 15, and it’s in a blue color, 256GB in it. I hated it when my iPhone 8’s battery was expanding inside it. It bothered me.

i used to have this problem on my iphone 4s which has haven’t been use since 2014 from what i see and it have been pop up like that maybe in late 2013 or 2014 so it definitely have been a while and i only got it repaired (and when i say repaired i mean throw off the old battery and still try to find another battery since the shop that i ask to repair the phone doesn’t have a compatible battery) im still trying to find another repair store that accepts old devices to giving it a new battery and maybe also my other 2 iphone 4 that i got from my aunt with it battery has taken it toll but it still a work in progress since im busy with school and stuff and i just moved to a new city so i don’t really know any nearby repair stores. Maybe when i and my parents have some spare times and i know some store then i will try to get them repair (tho i could buy these phone for cheap online but the reason why i try to get then repaired in the first place is cuz they have some valuable data for me)

Batteries expanding is a thing I‘m scared of with tech. My parents keep some old physical keyboard phones in the drawer as backup phones and because there’s old data saved on them. When charging, some phones are completely dead, one shows a weird white and green pattern, one is bootlooping I think and one actually works. Some time ago my parents used it again (one mobile phone’s battery broke) and the phone itself worked, but the battery lost all the power in less than a day of not using it and the phone was constantly very warm. Now the broken main mobile‘s battery got an replacement and that backup phone went back into the drawer. I can imagine the battery expanding one day. Luckily the battery can easily be taken out and changed (which is a thing I like about physical keyboard phones).

This is true my friend from church was still using an iphone 4 or 4s and it was perfectly fine one day and another day the battery was very much expanded but still working and now he doesn't have it anymore.

Really bad problem here. So I’m trying to exit recovery mode and I’m trying lots of methods but all of them just send me back to the recovery screen. I am on iPhone 4. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated

In 2016 or earlier (I don’t remember exactly, but definitely before release of iPhone 7) battery in my dad’s iPhone 5s was expanded and replaced. Battery which is currently in this iPhone is probably counterfeit and also expanded. If my dad will give this iPhone to me, I will probably replace the battery by Ampsentrix one.

PLEASE if you have a 3GS check it because they expand like crazy the first phone I had to repair was a 3GS with an expanded battery

I have an iPhone 4s, and my battery was new, it was about 10 months old, and it's expanding now. It wastn't being charged for a while tho.

This is why you never keep them sealed and open the box and charge it up to 70 % every once in a while. Once battery gasses up don’t attempt to charge and replace.

thats what happed to me on my white iphone 4 i pluged it in and a bit later its battery puffed up i fixed the battery luckily

The gold iPhone 5s was a design masterpiece. I still think it looks great all these years on. Always try to disconnect the battery first before removing the screen as it can cause damage. Also using a hairdryer to warm the back of the phone helps soften the adhesive strips.

This might be happening to an iPhone 3gs I bought recentally. The display sort of came off a little bit, but idk how to take it apart to check, so maybe I'll take it somewhere to get checked out. But before I do, could this be a safety hazard?

My 3G has been off for 11 years. I recharged it recently. It's still fine even though battery life is very brief. I guess this doesn't always happen.
