Greg Macke - Your Car Angel shows how to repair and fix a flat tire the easy way without removing the tire. If you have a flat tire or a slow leak you can often remove the nail or screw and fix the tire with a small tool kit.

I liked your tool kit - much better tools than the one I own. I had to do a plug last week and couldn’t get the plug in until I slightly warmed up the plug to make it softer and in she went. Cheers

I was ironically just reminded I need to get one of those kits - just had a leak repaired at my garage yesterday. >_< Excellent demonstration of how that process works.

Plugs were the accepted type of repair for decades. I typically drill the hole larger and ream out, makes it easier to insert the plug; and I use rubber cement as the lubricant/sealer. Most tire shops will say stuff like too close to the edge, tire is 1 month over 6 years old, and I even had a tire shop tell me I had two holes so close together that they couldn't patch (funny: soap bubble test and a single lug fixed that for me, several years ago), and all tried to sell me new tires.

Great to hear from you again Greg thanks for the video! Many years ago far from civilization there was that light “ssssssss” sound from a tire. No repair kit in the car as you recommend but I did have my tools, wood screws and some of the kids gum from the back seat. Yup, drove a screw wrapped in gum into the hole I found and it never leaked again. Kind of ashamed to admit I never repaired it properly.

Good to see you back. I miss your content. I was wondering what it has been like for you and your business with used car prices being such a challenge. What advice do you have for used car buyers now in this current market of high demand and low supplies.

Greg, love your videos. Already knew about this trick and I thought when you said "cheap fix" you were gonna pull out the autozone-special tire repair kit. I've used cheap ones from the store before, and eventually i had it with the tools breaking on me, so I ended up getting the same kit you have here, and you're right, it's a great one with the much needed stronger tools in them. The amount of force you need to exert on the tire to bore out the puncture hole and then to insert the plug is pretty intense and will definitely break the really cheap tools.

Helping my Daughter use the same kit . We were unable to get the ream tool into the tire. So we use a drill and same size drill bit as the ream . It worked . I would still get a inside patch on the tire ASAP .

Some of the Slime type products are also good for fixing punctures. And you can even put it in your tire before you get a nail so it "fixes" them on the fly and won't cause you to get stranded with a flat.

6:32 Hi. Appreciate your tire 6:32 repair video. Question? After you cut off the plug tails, do apply fire to it for a few seconds? I have seen it done but do not understand why. The same is done when applying a patch on the inside.

Maybe I'm not as strong as you are or the diameters of my punctures have been smaller, but I've always found pushing in the plug too hard. Solution: Use an electric drill and bit just large enough to make passing the plug possible with effort.
@TiredOldMann Жыл бұрын
Did the same thing. But looking at the ream tool I think you can but it in a drill.

When I was a motorcycle messenger, I once had an Avon rear tyre with a few of these repairs in it. You can buy co2 cannisters and a valve to reinflate the tyre as well and go well with a kit like this.
@FortunateSon Жыл бұрын
Little confused. You used a vaseline type of lubricant in your kit. Other videos I've seen put some "rubber cement" type of product on the plug to trigger vulcanization. Is yours not really vulcanizing, but just plugging with sheer mass? Or is there some product already on it? It seems like the lube would keep them from bonding anyways? Thanks!!
@rooster3019 Жыл бұрын
Had me thinking too. Maybe the "lube" was not petrolium jelly, but someting like sterno or some vulcanizing quality goop. I use rubber solvent cement make for this purpose, but maybe that stuff was also purpose made.

Besides a puncture and gash, it can have a leaky valve stem or stem extender.

@Remas200072 жыл бұрын
Buy the kit like the one he showed and not the cheap ones, because the cheap ones are made of plastic, and when it breaks it will stab your hand, also the cheap ones have smaller handles, which makes it harder to push on it and easier to fail

In RSA tire repair business send drugaddicts at night to puncture tyres using screws driven in with electric drivers in the hope of you buying new from them especially if screw puncture is in the wall.

Thanks Greg. This was a good video on how to do it, but it makes no sense when you can take it to a shop and have them put a real patch on from the inside usually for only 20-30 dollars. These plugs are not reliable and should only be used in emergency situations. The real patches from the shop are much more reliable.

That repair is a temporary fix. It will not last the life of the tire. Go to the nearest repair shop after plugging the tire.
@jacek22275 ай бұрын
Nowadays, no tire shop will want to do any work on a tire that has been plugged this way. They are afraid of being sued - that is what I was plainly told. So if you can, have the tire patched from inside. Otherwise, the plug will last long time - speaking from my experience. Recently I had a tire with 6 plugs (my son drove over a box of staples) and it lasted 8000 miles until the tire was bald and due for replacement. BTW, 10 or more years ago, even tire shops would use a plug method occasionally.
@ramtek27022 жыл бұрын
There is no worse or dumber way to fix a tire than plugging it. The repair process does much more damage than the original puncture and the tire maker will void your warranty. Guys like this need to be banned from KZfaq.
