YS F-120 Customer Engine The First Run

The performance run video of this YS F-120 engine. I do not think any work needs to be done to this engine at this time. It runs quite well, as you will see.

Great video. In my experience, it often is not so much the engine but the experience and knowledge of the guy trying to run it that matters.

David I have just fitted mine brand new in plane according to the manual there is no open vent pipe is this correct

My starting procedure is a little different than what you showed in this video. First I open the throttle fully and flip it over 10 times to pressurized the fuel tank. Then I close the throttle to a couple trim clicks above idle position and flip it over 5 or 10 times to prime the engine. The engine will almost always start on the first flip after the glow plug ignitor is put on. At first the idle will be fast. Open the throttle for a few seconds and the fuel tank will fully pressurize. Close the throttle and reset the trim. The idle speed should lower due to the richening of the idle mixture caused by the fuel tank pressure. This is my favorite engine that I own.

At 1:55 I did the same and my Saito 1.80 APC prop lite and popped. Had no glove and hurt like a !!!"@&$;: I will never touch the prop again with glo igniter in place.

What was your setting on the low speed needle.. what do you charge to set ays 120 up

You mentioned you had replaced a valve cover bolt that was missing

@@jeffie8696 Correct, Valve Cover is Pressurised as a Plenum Chamber. If they leak, they cause bad engine runs. This also applies to the PushRod Tube "O" rings, if there bad, causes same problem. For anyone watching in the future that has problems.

Dave, How does the super charging of this engine work. I don't see how the air would be boosted?

Well..... read that article. Those are 'terms' Futaba/Yamada uses but in the real definition the engine isn't super charged.

@@danielsgrulloni786 It is a supercharged engine. The air is sucked into the crank case and then pumped up to the "carb". This is all controlled by a rotary valve on the back plate. It's not a typical form of supercharging, but that's what it is. Based on the math, it creates somewhere around 10 psi of boost at full throttle. This is why this engine has such an insane throttle response and has so much power compared to other engines.
