With the new Zipp 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake wheelset, the brand has moved in a new direction. Until now, Zipp has very much made its mark by focussing mainly on the aerodynamic side of carbon wheel development, but for its next generation of wheels that’s all about to change.

would the 25mm rim bed be to wide to get a 33mm cyclocros tire through the UCI limit (33mm)?

How would these perform speeding down a mountain road? Would there be any chances of the rim hitting the road during cornering?

Do they have drain holes for water? I’m considering buying these wheels. But I know the 303s don’t have holes and might get full with water at some point

Is this a ceramic bearing ? Or do they have an upgrade kit to ceramic bearing ?

I think this discovery will start to trickle down all over the industry -wider tires are faster-. Personally I'll replace my old fashined 23s Continental tires for 28 Pirellis in my old Mavic wheels.

If they are so superior as a total system and offer those huge benefits, particularly on rough surfaces, I wonder why for instance the Movistar Team, who uses Zipp wheels, have instead opted for tubulars in the latest Strade Bianche 2020... Is it just BS for the mass consumer market?

Deflection is the enemy. However... and unfortunately... tire manufacturers are falling behind on tubules/hookless offerings. Until they catch up... A clincher with latex tubes is equally as efficient, perhaps a bit better. As of May 2022... still a pain in the ass finding tubeless/hookless tires. I run 62/65 on my 303S wheels... and could not be happier.

I received a 303 Firecrest set yesterday. I noticed a pin hole on each rim on both sides. Is this by design?

Yes. To let any "stuff" out. Sealant, air or whatever that might leak past the tape. Or if the tape fails catastrophically it stops pressurising the void in the rim (doubt this could become a real issue but I've heard it mentioned for others)

@@mortlow6688 i like them a lot. They came tubeless ready, installed tubeless tires, added sealant and no issues. Nice and light. I would buy them again.
