This storm seemed similar to what we got last month, I believe on the 24th like around the morning rush hour. I was visiting relatives, woke up around 8:00 in the morning, it was so dark and dreary outside that I thought it I’d taken a nap and woke up around the evening. It didn’t help that it was also thundering a bit and my niece for whatever reason wanted to walk to school (she’s in high school) so halfway through her walk, she called me to pick her up and drive her to school.

I really like the sound of the 'L' turning the curves. It reminds me of my teenage years when I was learning to ride the "L' and subway. I also like the sound of the much earlier EMU's I remember still in use as a kid which made a "growling" type of sound, especially when starting up from a dead stop. BTW, Thank you for all of your walking videos.

If you headed east on Avenue T., you would have been at Batchelder and Brown Streets and Good Shepherd Church and School. Grew up in Marine Park from 6-15 years old.

A walk down Memory Lane!! I lived on St. John's Place between Washington Avenue and Underhill Avenue until 1961. I was 6 or 7 years old. The apartment buildings on Eastern Parkway were top notch!! On St. John's Place, a little up on the left is the Paradise Apartments at 446. That's where we lived on the 4th floor....it was a walk-up.

I lived in Kew Gardens, Queens for 16 years and never knew you could walk the 59th St Bridge. Thanks for all the interesting information. It's the first time I've ever seen the Roosevelt Island Trams going over the East River. The train lines have changed a lot too. I remember taking the E and F while I lived in Queens. Do they still end up in Queens? It was so noticeable how the noise level changed the minute you got off 59th St. and went into the park. Amazing!

Slow Down, You move too fast,You got to make the morning last. Just kicking down the cobblestones,Looking for fun and feeling groovy! One of my favorite classics once you get onto the 59th Street bridge, I’ve never walked on that bridge before. If you see what they are doing to the Queensboro Plaza, they are making it ADA accessible. Idk why the bridge was named after the mayor Ed Koch though, but you got the idea. Long Island City is one of the most interesting places in Queens referring a little city because all of the buildings. Also as you can see that the N/W joins the R down by the 60th Street tunnel and first stop is Lexington Avenue-59 Street. The only to get to RI is from Manhattan by the tram of course and the subway/bus to Queens. Very much detailed. You should become a tour guide lol
@StrideWarrior
@StrideWarrior 7 күн бұрын
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻💯 All the bridges were extensively renovated during the 80s when I was a kid under Koch’s tenure as Mayor. When I walk over the Manhattan Bridge, I will talk about that in detail because I watched that bridge go through one of the best renovations in recent memory. So stay tuned for that walk. But Mayor Bloomberg named the Queensboro Bridge after Koch in 2010 probably because his leadership did facilitate the major renovation of all the bridges in the 80s. The bridges were literally falling apart in the 70’s.

Fantastico! I haven’t been on 5th Avenue in like two weeks! I Got to go back to the NYPL SNFL and of course all of the upscale shops between 42 and 59 Streets. You have to do more walks in the beautiful city. There’s so many express/local buses roaming down the Avenue by St Patrick’s. It’s funny that you said that, I’m doing a documentary series each week and I did one on Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and doing more landmarks and parks/creational stuff in the past few weeks. Mostly photography documentaries so it’s fun. Please if you’re down by 33 & 5, check out this Little Italy pizza place and best pizza. I also name a few upscale fancy retail shops as well Ted Banks Saks Fifth Ave Bergdorf Goodman Gucci Banana Republic just to name a few. Don’t forget that scaffolding down by 44 & 5 been there for months and months lol! Lot of things to see and do on beautiful luxurious Fifth Avenue 😂

Central Park is a real-life wonderland. I hate to say I didn't go there very often when I lived in NY, probably because of the attacks on women you'd read about in the papers. I did make some trips with a group of friends, and there were some ice skating trips to Wollman Rink. It is such a beautiful place right in the middle of a big city. That's an interesting story about Cleopatra's Point. I have to read about that. Thanks for the walk with such perfect weather to go with it.

I’ve always done this especially if I’m on the X28 bus and I get off by 23rd street before it makes the turn. Love when it becomes the Avenue of the Americas down by Herald Square, you have to do 5th Avenue again. Pass by St Patrick’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. It’s just a beautiful street. However my favorite is 5th Ave more so maybe for your next walk you can do that. It’s just an amazing block and street and got to say, nothing like luxury office buildings and luxury retail stores on Fifth Avenue 😂

Really enjoyed this walk. I haven't been to Manhattan in years. Like you, as a New Yorker, you learn to navigate the crowds and traffic in a way that only a person from the city can do. Loved seeing all the familiar places. By the way, speaking of pizza prices, Sbarros (usually in malls) was charging 6.50 a slice going back at least 5 years. Two slices could almost cost the price of a moderately priced dinner at less expensive restaurants back several years ago.

i am Maria Dunnigan and Patrick Belfiore who wrote in is my brother. We lived on Bay 28th St. Tree lined streets, warm summer nights with a breeze can't beat! Playing in the Park and my brother would play in his band in the park, what a place. I am 69 yrs.old and been out of this area when I was 13 years old. We had all single-family homes, one more beautiful than the other, stained-glass windows, wrap around walnut wood stairways and old Victorian homes. Mafia lived and took care of us; no crime could walk the streets at night and were ok. Remember young girl walking home from my friend's house and felt safe. I also enjoyed Jahn's ice cream parlor, Neils pizza, two slices with a small grape drink, 65 cents, and was it good. We had ice cream at the corner on the bath side and on 86th street we had the FAMOUS restaurant, we went every Monday night. My favorite is a Jewish deli, best hot dogs and knishes in the world. Loved Bklyn in those days. Bay 28th still looks ok, but the day we had will always be remembered and loved
