The man, who produced this cartoon (Charles Mintz) betrayal would never cease to haunt Walt Disney. Charles Mintz hired away all of Disney’s animators except for UB Iwerks, who refused to leave The Disney Company, after Walt Disney lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Better than the cartoons the Fleischers were making just before getting fired (with the possible exception of Popeye).

Any similarities between the vulture, gorilla, and hyena in this cartoon and any real currently deceased dictator (Thank goodness) is purely intentional.

I do wonder if this is something that Dave had in mind producing while at his family's studio in Miami had there not been tensions between him and his brother Max.

Originally saw this on the old PBS show "Matinee At The Bijou". Must be 40 years ago. Columbia was making some high quality cartoons around this time.

Not even Dave Fleischer could save this studio from making dreck like this at the time. These shorts got better when Ray Katz and Henry Binder were brought in IMO.

1:09 This is likely referencing the African Dodger where usually a white person would throw baseballs at a black person Krazy Kat themselves had been corresponding to Herriman's blackness with a comic of Krazy Kat getting offended by the word “enigma” as a reference to the n word.
Near the end, a male mannequin falls down the stairs and lands on a hot radiator, and melts. That's because mannequins in the early 1900s had been made of wax - but by the time this cartoon was produced in 1937, mannequins were plaster, and wouldn't melt.

OMG this is an absolute GEM, thank you for posting! Definitely the good ole days of Hollywood the golden era when they played the Newsreel and a cartoon first! Can you imagine today a cartoon being played with the uhh, err, watermelon bit in it? ADL and NAACP phones would be ringing off their hooks. And the funny part is that wasn't considered nor meant to be in any way _racist_ back then just funny and the black folk laughed just as much everyone all races were just better sports! 👏😊
