"GIDDY YAPPING" (Screen Gems/Columbia-1944)

From 1944, we present another notorious entry in Columbia Pictures' "Phantasy" series, made by the Screen Gems cartoon studio. Virtually all of "Giddy Yapping" consists of a hungry delivery horse trying to talk his window-washing boss into giving him time off for lunch! With story by John McLeish, animation by Jim Armstrong and Grant Simmons, and music by Eddie Kilfeather, this cartoon was produced by Dave Fleischer and directed by Howard Swift.

Whew, what were they on over at Columbia? I guess they didn't have much in the way of budgets, but they were making some of the most unusual, offbeat cartoons around. That horse was such a GREAT character, whose voice and dialogue were so important to the whole dynamic. Once again this style of cartooning reminds me of what would come decades later on the hip cartoon tv shows, it's nothing like what the other studios were doing in the 40s, but it's brilliant.

Horse: Don't hurry! Take your time!!! Do you realize how long you've been at that one window? An hour at least! At--at that rate, you won't be through until midnight--- PAY ATTENTION!!!! (Klang!) This horse's attitude is hilarious!

This was like the 1940's Version of Paddy the Pelican (but at least this is better than Paddy the Pelican), and it's a shame that Dave Fleischer, Yes, THE DAVE FLEISCHER, The Brother of Max Fleischer, The Man who brought us iconic rubber hose characters like Popeye, Betty Boop and Bimbo, had to produce these second-rate Golden Age of Animation Cartoons. ):

That’s only the Paramount’s fault, because the leaders of that film company fired the Fleischer Brothers in 1942. I really dont understand why did that tragedy happen at Paramount studios.

@@Smacgregor88 And Mr. Bug bombed because Paramount execs sabotaged it. It seems that the whole Fleischer studio was embroiled in a huge family feud, and they kept dragging Paramount people into the fight. The executive corps was fed up to the back teeth with the whole thing and just wanted every Fleischer gone, plus they spotted an opportunity to seize ownership of the cartoon unit for themselves.

I mean this window owner is dump as box of rock I mean could’ve given the horse 🐎 his food 🥘 and went to counties his work yet , yet he persist on doing his work instead of having the horse that keep nagging him all day long
