I live in Post Falls, Idaho, over a far flung part of the Yellowstone magma chamber far below. Most folks don't realize how very, very large this magma chamber is. And yeah, most of it is very deep down and, for the most part, stable (for now, anyway). And I don't really worry about Yellowstone blowing up anytime soon, or at least in my lifetime, because this is a live volcano that "breathes", in that it is regularly releasing steam/super heated water from it's magma chamber. The surface of the current caldera, which surrounds Yellowstone Lake, rises and falls on a pretty regular basis. Pressure builds and the land of the caldera basin rises, then pressure is released, and the land subsides again. It's been doing this for hundreds of thousands of years and no significant changes have been found since it's been monitored on an hourly basis.

I know he hinted at it would be a world catastrophe if Yellowstone erupted, but I just want to be crystal clear if Yellowstone erupted the world would be fucked I mean FUCKED you could literally move to the ends of the earth and you will still be fucked. By the time the sky finally cleared up and the sun came out our whole earth may very well look like Antarctica. Good luck to anyone who will try to grow anything.

Oh boy another "omfg wot if yellowstone blew up we all dieee?!?! like the 2012 documentry!" This is a horribly researched video. The results you claim would happen if Yellowstone blew is nonsense. We've had bigger eruptions in OUR LIFETIME than yellowstone could possibly do. Nonsense video. Yellowstone eruption could be the biggest in our lifetime? Jesus christ. This channel FURIOUSLY wants to be "In a Nutshell" but doesn't want to bother with research or make corrections. Can only imagine what other crap has been spewed in your other videos on topics I know less about. Unsubbed. As an 'educational' channel, do better.

it's ok, godzilla funneled all the significant magma away to the hollow earth, that's why we're overdue and not just because of crust shifts. Thank Godzillla. As for the volcanic materials, gotta be a way to mine and use those up, there's a resource there that is threatening yet fleeceable.

been more than 70k years it's over due. and it wouldnt be a national event either be planetary. yellowstone dont have kilometers of material it has miles
@elijahhoppe78562 сағат бұрын
Volcanoes do not work in predictable ways and their eruptions do not follow predictable schedules. Even so, the math doesn’t work out for the volcano to be “overdue” for an eruption. In terms of large explosions, Yellowstone has experienced three at 2.08, 1.3, and 0.631 million years ago. This comes out to an average of about 725,000 years between eruptions. That being the case, there is still about 100,000 years to go, but this is based on the average of just two time intervals between the eruptions, which is meaningless. [www.usgs.gov/faqs/yellowstone-overdue-eruption-when-will-yellowstone-erupt] Also please learn the difference between a kilometer and a mile.

Given the precariousness of Yellowstone, is the magma close enough to the ground that a nuclear attack could theoretically trigger an eruption?

You see, unlike science fiction stories, in which nuclear weapons seem to be the cause of, and solution to, many geological catastrophes, science fact tells us that you aren't likely to trigger a Yellowstone cataclysm with a nuclear weapon. How do we know? It's because this experiment has already been tried. Mt St Helens only just made it to VEI5...Yellowstone has the capacity to become a large VEI8, several thousand times St Helens. Kind of crazy.
@AvangionQ22 сағат бұрын
Two problems: 1, there is a string of supervolcanic explosions following what's now the Yellowstone hotspot going back 17 million years, not mentioned in the video. 2, the Yellowstone caldera system is a whole lot larger than the comparably tiny Prismatic Spring shown in the video, which I might describe as deceptive imagery.
@lEGOBOT256520 сағат бұрын
point 1 wasn't strictly in the scope of the video point 2 is assuming they are actively being deceptive

usa sitting on ticking bomb, if this happens, entire country would be done. Ironic knowing how most americans think they are centre of universe with their politics and media stuff today
@LordsSky9 сағат бұрын
If Yellowstone erupted, it would cause damage in the Yellowstone area obviously, and spew ash likely over about half of America, a few inches. It would cause power issues and delay services in the WORST case scenario (Wind factors carrying the ash). It would not do ANY of the country ending stuff this video goes on about. I suggest checking out SoupEmporians video on this subject to learn what would really happen, this video is poorly researched clickbait.
