That would fit my height perfectly, my waistline not so much.

I've been doing research on kimonos because I just found in my grandmother's closet two kimonos that my grandparents owned, a female and a male kimono, now these are authentic, I did all the researching for how the stitches are supposed to be and everything but im still wondering if im too big for my grandfather's kimono, these kimonos were gifted to them by two foreign exchange students as well as many other traditional japanese items, and my grandfather served on an air force base in Japan during the korean war, my family is American but we all have a deep seated respect for Japanese culture and i dont want to seem disrespectful wearing my grandfather's kimono

You could try tea staining or coffee. I'd sample each first.

How do you know what color to choose for obi and the obi ropes? I feel like when I show them my Yukata and kimono of purple and pinks they end up recommending very bright fushia pink and purple.

Thanks for the amazing videos! I'm a koto and shamisen performer and spend more time trying to put on my kimono than practicing lol. Could you possibly do a video about how to drive comfortably with one on?

I had the exact same question - is the kimono’s sleeve lined, or is it the undergarment we see?

Would love to know what differentiates formal kimono from each other? Are there different kimono for different special occasions?

Hello, im half way through making the kimono, but i am completely stuck at the part where you fold in the side seam and sew it down, i am confused whether or not if i should sew it into the kimono itself, or if i should only sew it onto itself? i see your side seam doesnt move when you manipulate the fabric, but im not sure i want to commit to 6 meters of seams unless i know for sure?
I highly recommend reading xxxHolic! It is still my favourite manga after all these years and Yuuko's and Kimihiro's styles along the series are honestly goals <3 Your wedding pictures were so beautiful, thank you for sharing them with us! Sesshoumaru is one of the original dreamboats and for a reason :D

Billy-sensei can you please make a reaction video or something video about the costumes in Shogun (2024) Series. would be awesome.

My opinion on the style change is it almost seems like your guises color schemes the opposite of them bring out your guises skin tones in a nicer way, but you guys both definitely look more comfortable in your original styles. You guys both look very beautiful.

Thank you so much for this video ! I work at a pretty classy restaurant and waitresses like me have to wear a kimono. I’ve been taught one for 1 and a half hour and then « take your kimono home and train by yourself. You can find tutorials on KZfaq ! » I tried many times and somehow achieved to wear it but it just wasn’t looking as good as it should and I took me more than 30 mins (I was still proud of myself knowing I’m a perfect beginner haha) so these tips will thankfully help me (with the ohashori being my biggest issue) !

Thank you for sharing these tips! I'm a fair sized waist, but massive top - my top circumference is larger than my waist and hips. Do you have suggestions for exceptionally large breasts?

Something that I found that was an absolute game changer with my Ohashori was to properly bind my chest and fill in the hollow between my shoulder blades and my hips slightly more with padding. This kept my Ohashori flatter, and it helped me to be able to actually level it off properly without the collar and my skirt being completely off grain and so it bubbles weirdly. TLDR: proper👏🏻 foundational 👏🏻layering 👏🏻is 👏🏻important.👏🏻

I used your texhnic to make one out of wool. You are right about the collar .. it is finicky work. My local Joannes loved it. I wore it during a heavy snowfall and it was warmer than a down coat. Love your teachng.

Tip for dying. Buy chinesse ink, yes i know.. get alcohol 96-98% and in a designated dish or so add just 1/2 drop of ink or less. If too dark add more alcohol and viceversa. 👍👍👍

Ah remember than the fabric is dried Will have a different colour so I try on small pieces 1st and blowdry so I can see the "Real" colour

You could make an small purse w "the scraps" It could be very simple, even hidden-atached to the kimono or a more formal with bamboo handles...

Well done! I'm a milliner and flower make and LOVE silk... Id Lost my mind & pocket if I were there. But 1st I had to choose which would be extremely difficult cause last time I want to Japan I came with a mountain of fabrics.

Just buy a pattern by Simplicity or McCall’s. I sew Sashiko bindings on fronts, neck and sleeve cuffs. Dont stress over the main kimono parts.
