Use a VW Amarok 2.0L BiTurbo auto - tow 2ton Hobby no problem 28mpg. When we got the caravan we put a back on the Amarok and storage is huge - in fact you can put a 1000kg in the back and tow 2tons with ease the only downside is very occasionally with parking spaces - definitely wouldn’t change - insurance is a rip off and your experience sadly is no surprise

Thanks for watching Chris and must say that the Toyota also towed with ease. If there had been a cover/roof over the back then yes we could have really utilised that space as you have described. F.Y.I. I have just received my caravan back after a post sale 1 year warrantee damp repair. The caravan is a 2011. It has been of very good service, to honour their sales warranty ( Beechwood liesure Thirsk ). What was found on both sides of the caravan, was shrivelled sealant under the awning rails, obviously age related, that had shrunk and left gaps for the water to permeate. Interestingly enough, I got talking to another caravan owner in Castleton and he had the exact same problem on a previous caravan , that was also fixed, by replacing the sealant under the caravan awning rails both sides. My thinking is now, that if you have a caravan that is 10 years old or more, to get the awning rail sealant replaced at it's 10 year birthday, leakage or not. It is much more inexpensive, than repairing the damage after the water has ingressed. The damage would have cost me north of £2000, if it was not under warranty. The caravan was 11 months into a 12 month warranty approximately. The other caravan owner sold his caravan after 2 years post repair to his friend, who has had it for a further 4 years with no further problems. Also in my view a a solid metal body is much more preferable to a coach built vehicle for longevity but there are no solid body metal caravans are there ?
@HelenandDave
@HelenandDave 2 күн бұрын
Hi Steve, am interesting read indeed. I think you’re possibly on to something with the resealing idea, certainly a preventative and also cheaper alternative to repairing the damp ingress. Not sure about all metal vans perhaps an Airstream? Thanks as always, Helen & Dave 👍

Hi Guys, everyone has their own experience and we have owned two Buccaneers (2014 and 2016 models) we loved their size and layouts but…. It was the worst investments we ever made the build quality was appalling and we have avoided them ever since. We were on route to France in the first one when there was a smell of burning. Upon checking the caravan wheel had rubbed through the water pipes to the bathroom and the wheel arch. To cut a long story short the wrong wheel arches had been fitted and it took four months to get everything sorted under warranty and we missed out on several holidays as a result. When the Caravan came back after a few months we decided to trade it in for another top of the range new Buccaneer with self levelling and all bells and whistles. Big mistake, the build quality was once again appalling. Here is a list of issues with our second model. Leaking and damp coming through awning light, cracks in front and rear panels, leather upholstery replaced due to poor workmanship, gas not working on fridge freezer, (Dometic engineer refused to repair as he said it had been incorrectly installed by the manufacturer) Shower rail came lose, Lighting plinth in loo fell off, a large gap between the toilet wall and side of caravan appeared. Kitchen waste pipe leaked, toilet radiator leaked, oven top became lose, TV bracket fell off, Drawers all needed continual adjustment, Oven top loose, Stabiliser Pads Noisy despite new ones being installed and the final straw Hekki roof light in bedroom cracked and leaked. I am sure other caravaners may have had much better experiences but from our point of view considering the top end price I wouldn’t consider another one ever again. The ownership has changed since our two purchases and hopefully quality control has improved but we have avoided them ever since. We now have reverted to a single axle Coachman. Ps You met my son recently at Mildenhall an aviation enthusiast like yourself.

The cleaner is very knowledgable about the leisure vehicle industry. Someone should promote him! I really enjoyed listening to what he had to say. It is very good to hear that lead times have dropped to normal timeframes. All that has to happen now for me in Japan is the yen strengthening its value (it is currently at historical lows) and the situation in the Middle-East calming so that shipping can once again take the shortest and cheapest route through the Straits of Hormuz. Neither of which are likely to happen anytime soon. Consequently, prices are astronomically bloated here.

We went to a dealership not long ago and looked at a few twin axles.(we already own one) I have to say the build quality of the new ones was relatively poor. Eg cupboards not fitted properly, doors not closing etc. The exception was the Swifts. Our favourite was the Challenger 635 as we didn’t like the Elegance interior. Just need to add self levelling to match our own van. Of the ones shown in the vid I would go with one of the Buccaneers as they seem to offer relatively good value for money, though I don’t know how old they were.

I can't think why you would leave California ,with it's lovely cliffs & wonderful beach to go to Hunstanton . I know both quite well & I know what I prefer

Have you ever been to California in February? (which is when this video was filmed). It’s shut! Nothing for our 14 year old grandson to do in California. We enjoyed our stay in Hunstanton and we like California too but we live there😊 Thanks for watching Jack 👍

@@HelenandDave---- Yep sure have & Hunstanton as well & my opinion won't change . Mind you , my opinion on this subject is worth diddley squat as I have lived in the subtropics since 1970 , but I did holiday in Scratby from 1945 to 1956 as well as regular trips to Sunny Hunny ( only 30 K's from my home )

@@jackstanton8212 a bit of a trek for you now then! We love California in fact we love Norfolk but our grandson wanted to be by the fairground at Hunstanton, I suspect it all may have changed (a little) since you were last there. Stay tuned! 👍

@@jackstanton8212 yes he loves it, but it doesn’t open until Easter, the video you’re commenting on was shot in February, California, Scratby, Caister & Great Yarmouth is like a ghost town then!

Hi Dave & Helen, I finally got around to installing my Kojack (why do I crave a lollipop when I say that word) last week and hopefully I shan’t have to test it anytime soon 🤞 The funnything was that I promised myself after watching your BAFTA winning video that I would take the mud flaps off first. It was only when I got on my hands and knees that I realised our 580 doesn’t have any 😂 Another thanks from us for your service! Best wishes David & Rachel 🥂

Hi David & Rachel, ‘Who loves ya baby’ 😂😂 This has to be one of the funniest comments we’ve ever had. David, you need to get on your knees more! Seriously though, thanks as always for watching, hope you got the Kojack fitted ok and as you say have no need to use it anytime soon. Best wishes, Helen & Dave 👍
