You can do that repair without ever loosening the set screws on the drum. You simply go to the bottom roller at the left side of the door and use vise grips to clamp just above the roller, you then go to the right side of the door and lift it until there is enough slack in the cable to correct it on the drum. then place another vise grip under the right side bottom roller so the slack isn't lost. Go up to the drum, re-align cable and then remove both vise grips. This method will ensure the door remains level.

Help! I used the pliers to hold the door at the highest point, loosened the set screws, and wound it up and reattached to the door (both sides), but when I finished the 2nd side, it completely unwound itself when I let go even though everything was back to normal. What am I missing?

curious to know if there is any reason the double spring assembly should be mounted at the center.. Mine is centered but I noticed yours is not. Thanks

You could have said the right and spring go on what side first when putting on the first spring because if you standing inside the garage door the right side is right but at the in of the video you tell people the red is on the left side so you be standing outside of the garage door.

Hey Parts4GarageDoors Guy! One of my garage doors, bottom section is a disaster, so I am reviewing YT for ideas, and I found your channel. My system is not a torsion bar setup, rather a coil spring on each side. I watched your video and you made me aware of the torsion bar system so thank you. But, when you did the Bloopers and Outtakes, that was great, I loved it! Thumbs-up and subbed was a no brainer. Have a great day!

Awesome info. My wife didn't wait for the door to completely raise before backing the car out, catching the top of the tail gate to the bottom panel on the door and bent it in the middle about 1 inch out. So, I have to get that bottom panel off and try to straighten it out. This gives me a lot of info, thanks!

Best display of parts and explanation of garage door repair and function that I have seen. I have watched a lot. My renter smashed her car into the bottom 2 panels, twice. I've been considering removing and pounding out dents and one support bracket. My door was made by Gadco and they are no longer in business. If replacing , I'd have to replace them all with a different manufacturer. Cost over $1400. For new complete it would be over $2.100.

Can you use a hand wench pulley or come along to release the tension rather than messing with the springs??

I just replaced both garage door springs after I added rigid insulation to my 16’x8’ metal rollup door. I set the springs at 30 ea 1/4 turns and needed to back off 4ea 1/4 turn. Leaving 26 each. Is there anything wrong with this outcome?
@SpectrumGarageDoorsServiceАй бұрын
On an 8 ft tall door you need a minimum of 33 qtr turns. On a 7 ft tall 29 qtr turns minimum. If you apply less- the cables will eventually get tangled up. You will need the exact spring required for your door to work safely.
@markslick8611Ай бұрын
@@SpectrumGarageDoorsService thank you for your information. I don’t really understand : if my springs have good tension and can lift the door properly why would the cables get tangled up? I appreciate your help and advice. My door now weighs just about 200lbs I ordered .225in x 2” x 27. But the Door would fly up when I did 32. 1/4 turns.

Empty message. I get all my wisdom from the Bible. Look up etymology of obey in the bible, and submit, and the differences therein, and why the word "obey" was purposefully omitted. We are to disobey when the law is unholy. Google for the article in order to learn more "No, romans 13 is not about obeying the authorities

It's nice that you have provided this video on how to change a spring safely. Years ago when I worked in the industry, the typical call on a Saturday afternoon was from the woman of the house. When we would get there we would find the husband with his arm in a sling, one broken spring and the other one already unwound and occasionally some blood spatter near it.

Is it safe the do this if the the other spring isn’t broken and I’m just resetting the spring?

Your springs need adjusted. Did the cable come completely off. If it did you need to redo the cables and springs. Easy to do. 4 tools needed

I have an old extension spring door which no original parts are available so I have to map what I can get to what is on there to make sure it will work before taking apart.

When I change my rollers especially the bottom set that has a load. I just remove the bottom section of track remove the bottom roller and replace then just put the bottom track section back on. Think it’s better then bending the track

Do the springs prefer to be on the center of the pipe or OK to be offset to one side, plus how high does the spring needs be from the top of the door? I have limited height space.

Hi,great video.got one question I clearly need more tension on both my doors as they hard to lift in manual mode and want to slam down.the issue that I have is I went to adjust the springs and I can't even get half a quarter of a turn when they seem to bind,I feel if I push any more something will snap,I can't hold tension easily,so no weak jokes please,haha.any ideas would be appreciated.thanks
