Oh Susie, just gorgeous!! Everything looks so lush and happy. Just last night I was thinking about you and how you were doing, worried you gave up so its so good to see pretty well all is fine 👍 Your Sun Kings have grown so much, mine are barely bigger than when I planted them the beginning of last year 🤷🏻‍♀️How many hours of sun do yours get? We have had continuous rain also, nothing close to the amount you have but it sure makes it hard to get out there to do anything with all the mosquitos! My Goats Beard probably grew 2’ feet in the last month ( also new last year) which is fantastic but some of the leaves look like they have Rust but Rust usually doesn’t attack them, any ideas what it would be? Also, have you ever had Thrips? I have 3 beautiful Yellow Columbines separated by many feet and all 3 have Thrips, ever fought those? I’ve read yellow blossoms are prime for Thrips. I’m so glad for you, I understand close up might show more damage but from our view it is luscious ❤️ …and you sound more relaxed and hopeful. Take care Brenda🇨🇦

I just can’t believe it!! Oh man… I watched this just after you posted and couldn’t even comment, so frustrating for you and you have no help! I really wished I lived closer, I really do! I watched again just now and you commented you had more rain!! 🤦‍♀️ My husbands career was in construction and land development. Almost every home we have lived in he has had to re- landscape so the water flows away from our property. We are dealing with our acreage as I speak, 2 pumps going and the neighbour thinks our septic is failing but my hubby is digging and following the water and we think he is the one with the problem, probably a broken pipe. We’ll find out soon. But!… we too have had more rain than I’ve ever seen here in such a short span, so it could be that🤷🏻‍♀️ Why I tell you this is because I noticed when you showed the amount of water coming out of the pump hose it didn’t look like anybody else in your area was pumping their yards water away to the street. Have you checked to see if the yards around you are flooded as badly as yours? Has someone raised their soil level or contoured a swale for the water to be shed from their property and it has found its way to yours? Or, is your back yard low? It didn’t look like the front was flooded? I don’t know what id do!! Build raised beds in the flood area? Containers? Build a little creek starting where the water is mainly coming from and direct it towards the front and out to the street? Like I said I wish I was nearer cause we could help you figure it out. I keep hearing you are in the midst of a heat dome so hopefully things will dry up quickly. What major city do you live near? I keep watching the weather for your state and saying a little prayer for you🙏🏻 I’m sorry, it will all be a distant memory soon. Take care Brenda🇨🇦

My front yard is higher than the back, but the drainage there is excellent. My kennel is the lowest spot in the yard, but the drainage issue is in the back of the gardens. It starts in my neighbors yards and since I am the lowest, I get all the runoff. My pumps are pumping out the water in my neighbors yards so it stops draining into mine. One of my neighbors thinks we sit on a spring. He has 3 sump pumps pumping out water in his basement the entire season. No heat wave here. It has been cooler than normal and only 1 day that gets to 85. We have another flood warning issued for Friday and Saturday. I bought another pump on Monday, when I had gotten an additional 3 inches of rain in about 3 hours. I am exhausted and wish I had help. You sound like you would be an awesome neighbor. Summer just started and I am for once in my life, looking forward to winter. Sorry to be so negative. It could be worse. Hope your gardening season is going great

That's just devastating!...I don't know how you can do all that and have 2 jobs...I sure hope you get through it OK... I'm sitting here watching this as a huge storm is going on outside and wondering what my yard is going to look like in the morning... Gardening is one of the most joyful and peaceful things but also one of the most frustrating... It's a ton of work and one thing like a deer passing through can wipe you out for the year...grrr... Wishing the Best for you! Your Garden is Beautiful! I'm over here in northern WI on Chequmegon Bay.

If it’s any consolation, Monty Don’s garden goes through periods of flooding too and you both have stunning gardens, even through all that adversity. It’s ok to take a week off from the garden, it will still be there when you get back and you will feel reenergized to work on it again. It will still be beautiful, even with the losses. Wishing you best of luck, I hope the losses are minimal, I can tell how much your garden means to you and how hard you work on it. Would it be possible to install a French drain or some other kind of system to help in times like these?
@floralnhardy7332
@floralnhardy7332 14 күн бұрын
I always ask myself What Would Monty Do. He's a huge inspiration. Some sort of drainage would be good, but it comes down to budget and the 2 huge trees that I used to have, had major root systems, so I would have a hard time doing it myself.

I was thinking about you when I woke up this morning and said a little prayer for you and your poor garden before I went to sleep last night. I know compared to big world problems, our gardens are a relatively small concern ... but I also know the frustration of investing so much of your time, energy and anticipation into a garden and how frustrating it is to have the elements and the critters causing so many challenges ... especially as the garden is hitting its' prettiest time. :-(

I'm so sorry you are getting slammed with one garden "enemy" after the other! You must be shaking your fist at the heavens when you're not pulling up plants to save them. :o The garden is looking beautiful ... even with the onslaught of weather you've had. There's probably not enough time in the day for such things, but I'd be wanting to pick as many flowers as possible, bring them inside, call friends to pick up bouquets (for the ones that need to be cut back). A couple of years ago I had a "plague" of voles chewing off flowering stems about the time they were just opening ... a huge stand of phlox was felled within a couple of days. I had phlox all over the house and at least got to see the flowers open inside. But, I digress. Sigh ... I hope some of your plants survive better than expected, despite the odds being stacked against them. I can understand why you want to step away... it's just TOO MUCH frustration when you have been working so hard to to protect what you have there. I'm feeling guilty in wishing we'd get more rain after seeing your video. It's been an odd year in the Pacific Northwest... we are having very cold temperatures for how late in the year it is. This week we've been in the low sixties and by week's end it will be 82. The plants must be totally confused. You can't rescue everything but you'll be glad later for whatever plants you were able to lift to higher ground. <3 This is one of those unwanted opportunities to test the resilience of certain species. I have fingers crossed the rain will not be as heavy this week as what you just had. Do you have danger of mudslides or road washouts where you live when it rains that much? That's something we start worrying about in our area when that much rain comes down in a short space of time. It's so exhausting and disheartening... but this too shall pass and there will be beauty again. Hang in there. <3

Not mudslides, but do have the concern of rivers flooding. The lakes should be fine. With a drought the last 3 years, our lakes needed this. There have been a lot that got frozen out for being too shallow and are dead lakes now. The temps have been cooler here too, but having the windows open has been fantastic. I have never had issues with voles, but still could happen with the luck I am having. I did see a fox the other day. That's a first
