Are skating drills best taught in sets/reps or timed?
@MarcelsHockeySchoolКүн бұрын
I honestly don’t really like either. I think doing enough reps until you see improvement is the best way to go, but I usually don’t aim for a specific amount of reps. This is obviously maybe not possible if you’re running a team practice with a time constraint, then I would maybe plan 10 minutes for a drill, but go longer if I’m not satisfied with how it’s going.

Just watched this for the first time in awhile and noticed something that coaches have told me impact skating balance. When you're on your right (strong) foot, your knee is rotated outward/hip open. On your weak left leg, the free foot knee is rotated inward. I wonder if that contributes to that side being harder to balance? I'd be interested in hearing the results if you try rotating the free knee outward.
@MarcelsHockeySchool5 күн бұрын
i don't really know to be honest. I think it's a pretty normal position because as a right-handed shot, the puck is mostly going to be more to the right side than left. So the feet will automatically turn a bit in that direction, not so much because of whichever leg is stronger, but because of the hand you shoot.

So I have ccm pants in a size large, the length seems ok but it feels tight around the crotch without a cup. Should I go up a size to xl?
@MarcelsHockeySchool13 күн бұрын
The crotch part is usually pretty stretchy though. Try them with a cup before going to XL. I do like my pants a bit looser, but you have to make sure they don't hang over your knees because that will really hinder your skating

You have the best content and instructionals on KZfaq. You have really helped my daughter and I make significant progress in our inline skating. I was wonderfing if the same transictions can be used in inline skating. Can the information in this video be applied to inline skaters? Thank you again for such amazing material.
@MarcelsHockeySchool17 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! It’s a little different on inline skates because you can’t really slide into the transition from forward to backward (backward to forward is very similar). On inline skates the forward to backward transition is more like the last version I show where you almost kind of jump, let weight of the heels and rotate into backwards.

I wonder if you can help me a little further. This power skate instructor Scott has his inside knee pushed forward like you, but his weight is on the "outside leg" and your weight is on the " inside leg." Just a different way to do the same thing? I think in inline skating may be called a "lunge turn" vs. a "parallel turn." Weight on the "front leg" versus weight on the "back leg". Are there two types of turns? What say you? Thanks. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aL-FYMeF29Sqeqs.htmlsi=XNHiNbfoNX1yRrtu

When you're pushing that inside knee forward and putting most of your weight on it, is your chin, knee and tie all lined up on that inside leg too?
@MarcelsHockeySchool21 күн бұрын
I’m not sure about my chin. I think the upper body can disconnect a bit from the lower body, but I definitely want my hip, knee and ankle on the same side lined up.
@robertgiacomo265522 күн бұрын
you mentioned your weaker side: what ratio do you think most fairly proficient skaters are with their strong to weak sides ? Eg 60-40, 70-30 etc?'
@MarcelsHockeySchool21 күн бұрын
I’d say 60-40 but I think it can be more with very specific skills. Like with a tight turn I’m pretty close to even both sides but hip-opener left foot forward is waaaay worse, also because I very seldom need it in a game because it’s my backhand side.
@robertgiacomo265524 күн бұрын
someone told me to get a hockey stick a while ago to help improve rollerblading. Is hockey a good way? I sometimes pretend to be holding a stick and it does help with getting you to move head , shoiulders, hips etc, only top half of body hunched ov er a bit
@MarcelsHockeySchool24 күн бұрын
I don’t think you really need to have one, but it may help you feel like you have a bit more control, because you’ll have one more connection to the ground, and putting two hands on the stick helps “connect” your entire upper body. But it’s definitely not a must

Hello, My boyfriend bought a pair of skates and at the shop it seems fine to him, but then when he was on ice he told me that his toes were not touching the end and that when he moved forward the heel didn't stay against the boot.. Do you have any advice on how to fix it without buying a new pair for the moment? Maybe with a insole (like superfeet?) or a pad/foam ? Thank you!
@MarcelsHockeySchool29 күн бұрын
That’s tough….are the skates heat moldable? Then you could bake them and they might form to you boyfriend’s feet a bit better. Other than that, an insole might work, or thicker socks.

To encourage shin angle I always cue "chest over your toes" in addition to "get low". That also helps prevent kids falling backwards because of too much weight on their heals.

my foot size is 26 sm. i bought 27 sm boots. (figure skates) because i wear a bit big Shoes all my life. i hate when my fingers sit properly on toe area. what do you think 26,5 sm would be better choice ?
@MarcelsHockeySchoolАй бұрын
Your toes should just scratch the end of the skate when you are standing straight and your skates are tied up. When you bend your knees, you toes should get pulled back a bit. I think that 27 is generally too big if your foot is only 26.

A csuklóvédőről. A többi résszel egyetértek! Soha ne korizzatok védők nélkül! Súlyos sérülésektől védenek. Ne kockáztassatok értelmetlenül! Én is viselem! Pedig sok éve korizok, a szövetség edzői licencével rendelkezem. Azaz nem vagyok "kispályás", mégis viselem a védőket!

Cooles Video, vielen Dank!
@MarcelsHockeySchoolАй бұрын
Gerne!
