So glad I found your content! I have a 1985 zinnobarrot 535i with over 300k miles I'm currently working on. Ever do the valve adjustment? I did.... And I'm not sure it's quite right. There's a lot of debate on gap, and I think I ran mine just a hair on the loose side, so it's a little clacky. Anyway, good luck and keep up the great work!!

@@EricBostonPaintings I had mine done during the post purchase inspection day after I bought mine; so I never had the pleasure doing it myself. But as long as you have the right gauge and feel the smallest amount of resistance possible you’re in good shape!

Your oil pressure light should not stay on that long on start up, even when cold. 2 seconds max. Try replacing the oil pressure switch, otherwise you may be due for an oil pump. Also, I had a long crank like, then did the single in-tank fuel pump mod, and now it starts up in 1 second.

Just came from the vid where one of these broke. Now it makes a little more sense. Those are some cheap parts, and it looks the bolts aren’t quite long enough for some reason. If the ones that were on there originally were OEM, it would be far better to rebuild them and use those instead.

Nice dodge of a big repair bullet there - my question is: what is your theory on why the axle connection failed in the first place? That's a 6 bolt, hardened steel interface - very strange for it to just let go like that and not fail incrementally. You know what I mean? - what the hell is that weird knocking from the back end? - you jack it up and see slight separation and say WTF - find a bolt or two have snapped and see its eventually on its way to separating. Are those aftermarket axles? I would politely suggest you dismantle the other axle and check it as well - Those are the original BMW bolts? - not made in China? Its one of the difficulties of keeping these cars running - the OEM part prices are sometimes laughable (though not always) and it can be tough to not just go with budget replacements. 1987 635csi owner here - presently rebuilding the power steering pump - Keep up the good fight - your 5 series looks great.
@MissionmadeAirsoftКүн бұрын
So the axles are aftermarket.(have a full video on the replacement) Bolts were the original BMW I swapped over and I have a theory: when I replaced the axles I did indeed use loctite on all bolts but forgot to let them dry for 24 hours. And on top of that I was practicing donuts pretty often right after that repair. It took me a while to realize it was likely the donuts that caused the bolts to loosen up. And if it wasn’t the donuts I still have no idea how/why that happened. Just glad it happened near home rather than the highway

the cloudiness is actually some white soot on the inside lens. too delicate to clean out. polishing will only last so long and will not remove pitting, best bet is to replace lens or restore like shown in the video

Your tucked bumpers turned out great. I've done a similar tuck on both front and back bumpers of my E28, but how are you keeping that front bumper secured in place and still square across the front? I resorted to hose clamps at a desired depth of collapse of the bumper shock, but it's not adequate really.
@MissionmadeAirsoft3 ай бұрын
Could you elaborate a bit more? By front bumper you mean the actual aluminum bumper right? The trick is to not adjust until the bumper and air dam are on the car and then push in. mine hasn't moved since its been mounted

Good video overall but you did a lot of the rebuild out of order. Disassemble all the bits, then clean, then start with the shaft seal, then the vanes, then the rings. Also to bleed the system you just turn the steering from lock to lock 2-3 times while stationary. You can also avoid the dry startup by hooking up all the lines, adding fluid, then turning the pump pulley by hand (belt not installed yet obviously) to get some fluid into the pump body. Cheers
