The Fair youth is the innocent child at birth unblemised without defect until the cutting of the cord and the crime of mutilation and dismembering which by then gives lay to waste and plunder
@shakespearelockeddown868 Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting interpretation of this sonnet, I've never really thought of the Fair Youth as being a baby before because of the nature of the romantic love expressed by Shakespeare in many of the sonnets. For me this feels more like an immediate continuation of the previous sonnet. In sonnet 69 Shakespeare talks about how all the people who compliment the Fair Youth's beauty to his face slander his actions behind his back. Then in this sonnet he goes on to say that people often assume beautiful people can be easily tempted into base actions, but despite peoples' assumptions the Fair Youth has stayed pure.
@raymondergarcia Жыл бұрын
@@shakespearelockeddown868 I can relate to your interpretation. The reason I look at Shakespeare's work with a new frame of reference is a newfound clarity I have about correcting the fault. The fault that occurs through the birth ritual, violent cut of the umbilical chord, and deposit of ones genetic property into the public trust, which gives rise to the fictional character which title we assume. In the Hamlet to be or not to be soliloquy, Shakespeare refers to it as" For in that sleep of death what dreams May come for when we shuffled off that mortal coil". The mortal coil is the placenta and the umbilical cord the part of you that is with you from the zygote or the inspiration of life until the birth. The placenta dies and stops pulsating once out of the womb but you're a state meaning your genetic makeup lives on. It is the sacrificial lamb the baby Jesus who bears the cross as you cross the motherland from your spiritual source to this sovereign land. Now if your delivery is not in its entirety and a part of you is Left behind AKA v placenta, it becomes a claimable treasure which a pirate can then lay claim to. Your equity is now held in public trust with your placenta or mortal coil being the deposit in the bank collateralize doing your estate as the next friend. You've now assumed the character whose title is recorded think to mend a broken chord. This fictional person now abides and complies to law of the sea or maritime law which is what Shakespeare references, to be or not to be that is the question whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous Fortunes, or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. To die to sleep no more.
@raymondergarcia Жыл бұрын

Follow the 'No!' that opens Sonnet 123, skips to 1st quatrain in 124 and then the 3rd in 125. That argues a sequence imo, at least for these 3 sonnets then. Great glossing of the sonnet over all Ashley, especially that bastard of a final couplet. And how many have you got memorised?
@shakespearelockeddown8682 жыл бұрын
Great point! I definitely think as a set 123-125 do switch the focus of the word 'love' and Shakespeare talks more about his own poetry. There are language links like the 'no' you pointed out that put these together as a set. For me though, the intent changes for Sonnet 125. Sonnets 123 and 124 can be read almost as one seemless poem about Shakespeare's work not being a slave to fashion; the first quatrain of the latter builds on the previous sonnet's rhyming couplet. There's a new intent with Sonnet 125. It feels like a separate thought; a new poem building on Shakespeare's more mature views on his love for the Fair Youth. What do you think? The last rhyming couplet is definitely much more succinct in Shakespeare's language 😅 Sometimes he says so much in so few words and other times I find he says so little with more! 😂 But his language is always so witty and beautiful. I now have all 126 of the Fair Youth sequence memorised 😄 I've recited Shakespeare every day since March 2020 so I'm going to take a little break before tackling the Dark Lady sonnets. Plus I have a script to learn and rehearsals to attend now theatres are open again 😊

@BeevDawgZ12 жыл бұрын
How long did it take you to master this? 😮
@shakespearelockeddown8682 жыл бұрын
Usually I write a line-by-line literal modern version of the sonnet just to get a loose understanding of it. Then I learn the sonnet. I practice my memorised sonnets every morning and evening. While I'm learning and reciting the sonnet, that's when I get my head around the intent and meaning of what Shakespeare was writing. Then when I record my video I record the Shakespeare version first and make sure I have 3 good takes to choose from. After that I improvise a version in modern English, not planning what I'm going to say but just turning the camera on and trying to communicate what I believe Shakespeare meant. I try to get 3 takes of this too. Then I choose the best takes and edit my video together. I try not to overthink any of it, but I think there's a marked improvement in my performances since my first video.
