I don't "journal" away from home (i.e. when I am "carrying"). I don't sketch either. When I am out and about, I may need to jot down a thought. Or a shopping list. Or a to do list. Any notebook would be overkill for these use cases. Instead, I carry two or three 3x5 index cards in my wallet and it's always plenty. I probably could get by with one index card 95% of the time. Much slimmer than any notebook. I prefer the Exacompta index cards which uses the Clairefontaine 205g paper stock. At CultPens, an order of 4 packs of 100 are less than half the cost per pack after shipping than Rite in the Rain index cards. So 100 cards (200 front and back) for $8. RITR is $17 for 100 index cards. I believe Field Notes is $13 for 144 pages front and back among 3 notebooks - again twice as expensive. The Exacompta paper stock is legit. Fountain pen worthy.

I definitely use notepads a lot either at home or at work or when traveling. ie at home, I'll watch something and write down ideas. At work, I take notes while I'm on the phone with someone. Or when traveling, I write when I'm bored out of my mind :P I tried digital pads and even Boogie Board and Rocket Notebooks. But found I much love using pens and paper. That said I do agree with you in that I'm not literally carrying a notebook in my pocket. But I do have them always at home, work computer or when traveling.

@@Dracomies Yes - notebooks are great for home and traveling. I like the Word. notebooks adventure log for travel. But for EDC, I use index cards with a Kaweco Lilliput in my Allett wallet.

Yeah hardened steel is way too hard to cut through with the pressure from your hand, unless you had insane amounts of leverage. Gotta stick to unhardened metal with hand bolt cutters.

I do appreciate this video, but you shouldn't be stating "don't get these microphones" outright because everyones voice is different and you also don't mention the actual specifications of the microphones which I found a little frustrating, other than that great video

I mean it's kind of reassuring in one way to see how robust Vic tools are! I agree that the hook and corkscrew aren't the 2 backtools I'd most like to have, I'd prefer an awl and Phillips SD. I have a Climber but not a Compact, so at least I get the awl. Anyway in terms of modding it I don't quite understand what your plan was anyway...to cut those off and weld new tools on? Normally modding is a pretty involved process involving first removing the pins aka rivets, taking it apart, swapping out tools, and then reassembling with new rivets which have to be peened. So I've never attempted it myself.

Ive had mine for about 6 weeks now and I love it. Im always surprised how many people dont use corkscrews..finding myself with a spur of the moment bottle of wine or belgian beer is a fairly frequent occurence for me, and my glasses may only break once in a while but I just know that screwdriver is gonna come in handy. I love playing with that file on the hook as well!
@Dracomies
@Dracomies Күн бұрын
For me I just never found much value for the corkscrew. I wish they had a SAK where that and the the parcel hook were gone. Though..I did learn something. When I actually tried to tinker with the corkscrew it actually pushes the knife out in a way, almost like they're important for the balance of the knife and even if it was removed it would mess up its balance. Oh well, back to the Rambler :D! It was a fun experiment

Hey, this is a bit of a throwback to an earlier video of yours, but I'm seriously looking at the ksm 32 and tlm 103 as cheaper replacements to the u87 ai (in search of the classic rock ballad sound i.e scorpions). You hinted in your "don't buy these popular mics" video that the ksm 32 may even sound better than a u87. Would you make a video where you expand on this view? I have tried researching the ksm 32 endlessly but you are the only one that has ever mentioned it in the context of rivaling a u87 ai. Cheers!
@Dracomies
@Dracomies 2 күн бұрын
I read your statement and thought about it. And yip, I don't think my opinion changes on that. The U87 is highly lauded for its versatility. But it is very possible that microphones under its $3695 pricepoint can work better for someone's voice. And in this case I genuinely feel the KSM32 can rival it. I'll make a video on it but for now you can watch Podcastage. Listen closely to him on the KSM32 and listen closely to the U87 and genuinely ask yourself a question. If you didn't know which mic was which would you think one mic was far better than the other. Even the Soyuz 017 imo sounds better than the U87 and that's a thousand dollars cheaper. But the KSM32 holds its own against the U87 at a much cheaper pricepoint. And even now I wouldn't say differently.

I'll be honest with ya...you got what you asked for. Its a swivel head. It swivels. I have one and it does swivel to an excessive degree. It makes it harder to keep the bit in the fastener. I don't have issues when using it with a socket. So it's probably one of those things where "we're just going to change this one little thing" matters way more than you'd think. A socket does pretty well holding itself over and around the fastener with quite a bit of lee way. Screwdrivers on the other hand generally don't. In saying all that. I get it. It's not amazing pocket gold. But it does work and has its purpose. Having a 90 degree lock woild be cool.

I mean q-tips are also combustible/biodegradable, so there is very little reason to opt for the reusable swab. Also q-tips being absorbative are critical for medical aid or just messing with chemical application altogether. And it's not hard to pack q-tips, any small resealable bag will do
@Dracomies
@Dracomies 2 күн бұрын
Agree!! No real reason to swap swabs (no pun intended) :P
@aboriginite
@aboriginite 2 күн бұрын
I'd say depends on the bit of kit. if it is something you use on the regular like a multitool or knife, then yes your criticism is valid. The more ready access a solution is, the more likely you get to play the EDC prepared hero. if it's my tiny sewing spool I keep in my wallet that I never use, then it's fine to be crammed in there since it is more in case of super emergency kind of deal. regular use tools and medical kit stuff should always be at the ready but the more niche stuff that you keep on hand that has a use but never pops up is fine to keep more crammed in deep.
@Dracomies
@Dracomies 2 күн бұрын
But these happen with EDC kits, things that are supposed to be at the ready. But yeah I agree that it would be ok if it was something that wasn't used often.
@aboriginite
@aboriginite 2 күн бұрын
@@Dracomies yeah things like knife, flashlight, and pen/notepad all need to be quickdraw ready, and bandaids also need to ready access. I'd say it's more forgivable for improvised repair materials to be more fiddly.
