Still debating if I want this edition. The Folio Society just released (July 2024) a new boxed edition, but the price is cost prohibitive for me at $750. It's still a wonderful book in either case.

Weird that they did Blood Meridian as standard hardback paper. And The Road in cloth. I really wish that the Folio Society did everything in *at least* cloth and ideally leather. The interior is always so premium, while the covers are ... not so much. Glad to see this is in cloth at least. I'll probably pick it up eventually.

Thank you for this review! As a owner of many folio society books and no suntup at the moment, how would you compare the quality of those artist editions compared to the folio books (SOIAF for example, which are beautiful) ? (Binding, paper, paper thickness, etc...) I thank you for your time! This might help me in deciding either or not ordering some of their books :) (Handmaid's tale, Black Matter, Blackwater, etc...)

@@mintistic7972 true but sometimes folio has artwork that I prefer to Suntup. The propaganda poster art for the Handmaid’s Tale for example in the Folio edition is much better than than Suntup. Same with the Godfather, Folio’s art production is just more beautiful even if it doesn’t have the signatures of a Suntup. That said on almost every other title, Suntup crushes folio society

An oddly sized book, but beautifully designed by comic book superstar Dave McKean who began his career in partnership with Neil Gaiman on the graphic novel 'Violent Cases' way back in 1987. I'm sure it was McKean who set the book dimensions to suit his illustrations. I love this edition and it was my first time reading the novel which is a phenomenal read as the vampire tale is turned on its head. The last line of the novel absolutely kills. This was without a doubt the most current and relevant novel i read during the initial global lock down period in the spring of 2020. I leave it at that.

I agree, if we saw all the illustrations it's only the most violent or horrible scenes of the book, but it's a novel, not just a report on the horrors of slavery (or of losing your arm for scifi reasons) so I think there should have been some meaningful scenes that are not a depiction of some horrors. And we basically only see the main characters when they are sick and dying in these illustrations instead of getting a picture of what they are normally like. There isn't even a picture of rufus. Personally I think seeing a picture of rufus being a cute little kid or a picture of Dana or Alice or both looking good and then imagining them getting sick and dying or in rufus's case being a psycho would be better than to see them in a bad state and have to imagine them in a good state. I picture them as fascinating people in my head who then go through things that make them look half dead but not always

Very nice, love your showcases; my favorite AC book-out of the five I've read so far-is And Then There Was None because the claustrophobia and paranoia was to me almost palpable. With each murder the island and the walls of that estate became smaller; each of the estate's visitors, all of whom came on their own volition, had to come to terms with the fact that both the island and the estate was slowly becoming their prison. The Murder of Rodger Ackroyd is masterful, but And Then There Was None was the book that turned me into a fan. Anyway, hope I haven't prattled on too much; I look forward to the next showcase.
