I installed this upgrade several days ago on my 1994 R1100RS which has 24,000 miles on it.. The whole job was simple and took less than 30 minutes. My idle is definitely smoother and the throttle response is improved. I think this upgrade is well worth the price ($170 including shipping).

Earlier this year I bought a 1200 GS (not adventure) from 2008, 105K, 3 set vario cases, new tyres, simple crashbar, ABS (no traction control or ESA) in good condition and 1 year warranty for a little over 6000. So something similar for the GSA version with more rugged cases and protection/crashbars and features in the 8000 range is realistic. I'm also from NL.
@M0Tourist4 күн бұрын
The adventures are always a bit more expensive, this only did 58K km and had all the bells and whistles. Never the less the almost 9K was over-asking... Especially considering it needed service and new tires. How do you like your 1200?

Is it big upgrade enought to think change to 1200gsa from 1100gs. I've been thinking to change but somehow I just love 1100gs reliability and how it runs clean. I'm bit afraid to switch newer bike due to their price and possibility to get bad bike where I have to spend even more money in long run.

I'm a bit on the same page, as I explained I'd an event coming up that I wanted to do. The 1200, especially the '08 & '09, are pretty good as well. Like a sophisticated 1100. But it's pretty pricy, especially with the outstanding work on this bike. Came down to having a newer bike, with some additional features like ABS & ESA, that rides better (but not 10k worth of money better). It's not the huge leap forward as the 1250 GS is

It's in the 2nd part of the video. Red Rhino didn't run right, after my mechanic changed the throttle cables it cut out during a test ride. Turned out that it was something in the fuel system, either the distribution or the quick disconnects....

@M0Tourist20 күн бұрын
May be smoother is not the right wa ** y of wording... I've also riden the 1250 gs with quick-shifter and that wasn't buttery smooth either. With these large 2 cilinder bikes there is a lot of mass moving, which gives you a little kick in the higher regions. The better word was a lot more fun

The clutch & throttle cable are stock, same as the wiring. Those fit, although I wouldn't go any higher then the 50mm, then you'll need to lengthen the throttle cable. I do have aftermarket brake hoses, so I can't tell you anything on that...

I've the steel tank, and the bike is from '97. If you go offroading on the bike make sure you install the gearbox reinforcements. For the rest, some TLC from time-to-time, but the bike is pretty straight forward to work on.

installed mine on my track bike, but sensor was way too sensitive, up to the point the sensor would pick up so much vibrations from the shift rod it would just cut off ignition randomly, and even completely shut down the bike at one point. Took it out, left it out for about a year. Going to ride in Spain next week and installed it again, just need to mkae sure i check the sensor sensitivity. Good video. I just ordered a performance chip from John. Does your GS have the stock exhaust and catalytic converter? If "yes", then you might not feel as much of again with the chip. My GS has a cat-delete mid-pipe and a very free flow exhaust...so, I'm hoping for a very noticeable gain. And yes, my bike is already very loud. 😀

I'm still pretty happy with the quickshifter after more than a year. It's not as fancy as a factory install on modern bikes, but it is proven technology... The sensor in the shifter sends a signal to cut the ignition for 1 or 2 cycles, which eases the pressure on the gears and enables you to shift while keeping the throttle open. The most 'tricky' part is setting the threshold for this signal correctly, but that is not too difficult... I mainly use it on hard acceleration, but definitely not all the time
