I know the feeling EXACTLY! I worked at a furniture store which would bring me to the dump multiple times a week. One day I pulled up and my buddy up there says, "Hey man, I saved something you might want. He goes into the shack and comes back out with an MIM Fender Jazz bass, and an American Fender bullet bass with the Tele style headstock, and a Badass bridge. The J bass was black with ridiculously stupid lightning bolts carved into the paint, but they sanded out with plenty of paint left to buff back out, but I left it rough sanded flat black because it looked really cool that way. All it needed was tuners. The bullet needed a little more work so the tuners and Badass went on the J bass, as well as a proper level crown and polish, and the American made bullet, with a maple board, is now awaiting its turn on the bench!

That's awesome dude! I feel like when an instrument has a story like that it's so cool. You hear about the Jack White Airline guitar being a 50 dollar pawn shop find, and it boggles the mind
@stevenpipes1555Ай бұрын
@@gucdude The same guy at the dump scored me an early Squire Stratwith the big headstock. He was very generous, he never wanted a penny. I also found a Silvertone Catalina, from the 50s, at a yardsale for 70 dollars. That made me feel the same way!
@gucdudeАй бұрын
No way dude!! Those are a collectible dream haha I love those old archtops. I had some old Serenader archtop with a neck pickup I got at a flea market too for 40 bucks. Just needed a neck reset and it played great! Unfortunately it became unsaveable later for other reasons but it was the perfect busking guitar
@stevenpipes1555Ай бұрын
@@gucdude oh man, I love my Silvertone so much. It could probably do with a neck reset but it's not that bad at all. It's the blue and white one, all original, it even still has the original klusons on it. The paint is all there and the aging is perfect and beautiful. The only thing it's missing is the pick guard. The screws and rubber mounts are there but the guard is not. It came with a harmony jazz box as well, both for 75 bucks or whatever it was, but the harmony is much farther gone. It needs serious work that I'm not set up for, bit the Sivertone is in incredible condition.

The thing I always think when people demand a hundred different tones out of every piece of gear they own is "but what's your SOUND?". I don't really have songs that I think are so me that you could tell I wrote them if somebody else played them, I'm not technically very good, but I think my drummer could pick me playing power chords out of a lineup because I have a sound. I guess a big percentage of players fall into that wedding cover band category that needs every tone besides metal, but I think one of the best things about playing guitar is getting my tone stack, tuning, and rig right so it feels like it's my guitar sound. I have this ancient Hot Rod with a fucked up reverb that does this rhythmic clanging on certain tones, and I'd really miss it if I traded up to a smaller, nicer tube amp like everybody's been telling me to forever.
@ileutur68632 ай бұрын
So you don't use different sounds when writing music?
@gucdude2 ай бұрын
You just won't build any unique character to your tone if you decide to play like everyone else. I am all into one piece of weird gear and commiting to it fully instead of a do everything machine. Leave those in the studio!

i hear ya. i think i'm now at the age, or point in my guitar life, that i know what it is i like and don't like. i think its cool to have different features, but i find it more of a novelty than anything. i never end up liking the tone. in the end, i like simple. SGs, tele, strats and maybe Les pauls

I've stumbled upon people online who are against the public domain in the wake of Steamboat Willie becoming part of it, with their arguments being that it would ruin their original creators' intent and theming of its stories and characters with elements that make little to no sense for them and would open the floodgates for reactionaries to maintain/enhance whatever problematic themes it had to counter those who want to address and dismantle them with their own versions of those IPs.
@gucdude6 ай бұрын
I think to be against the public domain because of one contribution of material goes against it's entire spirit

I also think because IPs that are in the public domain don't need to be altered, they are altered less than someone trying to avoid a copyright claim
