I used to walk a friend's rottweiler, and I managed to teach her some non-verbal commands, for instance to sit from a still position, a light pull up, et voila. Also, to have some control when off lead, I used to make noise with the lead's hook spring at home, so she knew it was time for a walk, coming to me and sit by the heel waiting. Then I noticed that it worked also when in the open, just by making that noise she'd come running wherever she was. Managed to scare some punks once using that trick. The rottie was a sweetheart, but they didn't know that.

The main problem with pit bulls is the type of person who normally wants a pit bull. The breed has ended up with a terrible reputation mainly due to the way most of the owners raise their dogs. We had some Brazilians living in our village (gone now) who had one. It was never walked, never socialized with people or other dogs and confined to a very small space. Basically terrible. Unsurprisingly, it was quite aggressive and would try to bite anything that came anywhere near his territory. I do not personally like this breed, but it has to be recognized that the dog is seldom the problem.

@@theportugeeza Yes, they will not self correct for altitude (Lower atmospheric pressure), so thinner air (with less O2) for the same fuel flow from the carburetors, equals rich mixture.

I have not been as yet. Doesn't look bad at all. Very well maintained streets. It is a bit far for me though (my opinion). I know that you do not mind doing plenty of miles. Last year, I did about 4000 km in total in the car. I am such a homebody.

Hello, Tony. The buildings at the bottom next to the river were not mills but textile factories. Covilhã was known for its wool textiles and called the "Manchester of Portugal"

Literally the word "Jardim" means Garden, i think, Jardin in French. I'm not saying you are wrong, of course in this context it's more a Park or a Playground.

It's an interesting video that's for sure. We get a good look at the city of Covilha. Personally i would not feel comfortable on that walking bridge though, walking to the other side. Maybe on my ebike or motorbike rush over it, would be a fun thing. But of course that's probably not allowed. Anyway, i would love to visit that city one day. It was already on my list.

It is admirable to see what you are doing with the dogs. Half of this problem would not exist if only the Portuguese would sterilize their animals. In my area, there are many (supposedly owned) intact dogs running around as they please and inevitably producing more dogs. It is like night and day around me when it comes to the difference between foreign and Portuguese dog owners.

Awesome! Expats should def. get a dog that you trained since they now know English. Doing everything in Portuguese may turn out to be a good training for you as well. What do you think? Which native tongues are most likely to adopt these? Before you know it, you'll be saying "Good girl" in Portuguese after receiving your beverage. Anyhow, you're doing a terrific job! A tip I picked up from dog trainers is to not repeat the command without a long pause in-between since that turns a "sit" command into "sit sit sit" command. I don't mean to nit-pick.
