The convenient offers in Germany and France if Eurovision is in Basel or Geneva are actually a negative point for those cities. The city invests millions and then everyone doesn't sleep, eat and buy things in the city or even Switzerland.

Eurovision is a commercial, basic pop-culture festival, and it attracts such an audience. For me, Gate's performance, the music, the voice of the singer, the energy of a band, is simply a masterpiece. If not the winner, then in the top 3 of this year.

It's pretty easy to answer: Norway didn't chose KEiiNO In this Eurovision there are lots of music highlighting water as background If the Norwegians would like a successful song which is sang in Norwegian, they would choose Ekko Inni Meg in Eurovision 2023, but of course, Queen of the Kings is a really Great ICON

Gate was my #6 favorite this year, and I do continue to listen to their song. I love drama and intensity in rock music, which this song definitely has. However, there was zero chance of this song winning this year, for multiple reasons: 1. There were a lot of genuinely awesome songs this year, and in varying musical styles. The ballad lovers voted for France, the pop rock lovers voted for Croatia, and Ukraine and Italy always send strong songs that don’t sound like anyone else’s and gather large vote tallies. 2. The political campaigns by far right governments in multiple countries definitely influenced the popular vote totals for Israel, and that lowered scores for most countries, including Norway. I have no interest in discussing the politics of this conflict, which is far more complicated than some people want to acknowledge. But it’s clear that the very public campaign on KZfaq and other sites asking people voters to use multiple credit cards and phones to vote for one specific country worked. 3. The jury vote was deliberately skewed for Switzerland. The Code was my #2, I’m not complaining it won, it deserved lots of jury votes. The song as crafted was always going to appeal to jury members with its mix of pop, opera, rap and wonderful, heartfelt lyrics. But giving The Code 12 points almost across the board, when there were other really good songs that should also have appealed to the juries (like France and Ukraine) just seems suspicious. 4. Staging. The staging was visually appealing, but one note. The music video for the song adds drama and interest, in comparison. 5. Sing ability. The vocalist was really good! But this is not a song the audience or I can sing along to, especially the chorus. We can appreciate it, but on a more intellectual level rather than having a more emotional connection. A lot of comments I see online state Norway was underrated and robbed. I agree, but when only the top ten songs out of 27 are awarded points from each country, these things happen. I expected this from the public, but thought Norway would have gotten a better jury score. A lot of words to say Norway sent a really good song, but not a song designed to appeal to most of the Eurovision audience.

On point 2 I'd like to add that when RAI leaked its semi-final results, which had shown a whopping 39% of the votes being towards Israel, the online ESC community began a mobilized voting campaign of their own towards entries that could challenge Israel in the televote. And those, who were originally going to support entries like Norway's for example, had to change tactics and give their vote(s) towards either Croatia, Switzerland, Ukraine, France, Ireland or Italy. Which further limited the amount of support countries like Norway, Austria, Slovenia or Georgia received in the televote as they were now only fighting for the occasional point or two, maybe even 3-4 points if they're lucky. The United Kingdom got 0 points in the televote, but at no point 'Dizzy' by Olly Alexander was cracking a top 10 position in the televote.

The answer is simple. Croatia did not want the organization of the ESC for many justified reasons. Switzerland was predetermined as the host country. Accordingly, Nemo was selected from among several offered performers. The song was written for the jury. In the end, the jury agreed and sent the ESC to Switzerland. Croatia won televoting, which is great for Marko's future career.

I think, ultimately, the reason why Baby Lasagna lost this year (and why Käärijä lost last year) is a side effect of televote-only semifinals - because semifinals are televote-only, delegations and selection juries for both internal selections and national finals choose songs that they think will appeal to televote in order to qualify - which, to their credit, does work - but the end result of this is that there are too many televote-baity songs that all steal votes, and therefore points, from each other, and there are so few songs that appeal to juries and the criteria they use to so score entries (like France and Switzerland) that juries are left with essentially no choice but to give those entries massive landslides. I will admit, as a Nemo fan, that they shouldn’t have landslided the juries as hard as they did (I thought Bambie, Silvester, Marina, and Teya weren’t done justice by juries), but given the composition of this show and the riskiness of Nemo’s performance, I think they deserved it.
@lotus8847
@lotus8847 13 күн бұрын
I haven't seen it like that. Because the semifinals are televote only, the grand final songs are only entries that appeal to the televote which makes it so that there are little vocal heavy performances so it ends in a landslide. Which is exactly what happened with Sweden and Switzerland. Makes sense!

If Nemo were a representative of a poorer country that could not afford such a performance, I doubt that such a Nemo would be able to see the final regardless of his voice. One fact is generally not mentioned about Nemo, and that is that this performance of his was allegedly one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive performance in the history of the ESC. If the song was enough to win, then why did it go to such an expense? Probably because Swiss TV could afford it and they went all or nothing to win. Because for several years in a row, Switzerland has been aiming for victory. I could never listen to Nemo's song to the end. It just doesn't suit me and it seems I'm not the only one, because it was only fifth in audience votes.

Boring generic song, bad lyrics, even worse vocals, and while the staging looked phenomenal, it did nothing to keep viewers attention, unlike Sweden this year or Greece 2021, where you were curious about what's happening next. And it didn't elevate it in any form, so people didn't stay focused and grabbed their cellphones or spoke to people they were watching Eurovision with. There are many theories as to why BL didn't win. The real truth is that he was "too normal". The story that he can't sing is nonsense, because he got a lot of points from the jury. If it comes to singing, Silimane is far...far ahead of Nemo. This Esc was supposed to be a fight between Marko and Joost, because the audience chose it that way..but they made sure to kick him out😪. And in the end, the audience (the people who pay for it all) turn out to be irrelevant..sadly. it's all a game of the organizers. In the end, I am glad that this "parade" will not be in Zagreb. Marko won anyway❤️

Please stop writing BL was robbed. You only damage his career in Europe. I used to love BL, loved his song. But after all the negative comments, now I associate hateful people who cannot loose with this song and I am not listening to the new songs. I know it's not his fault. And a lot of people feel the same. We are "allergic" to BL. I can't help. I wanted BL to win but I am happy he didn't because I didn't want some fans to win. And so did many others. I voted for Ireland, Italy and Greece. There was no conspiracy to give all the points to Nemo. It's not possible that 184 people from 37 countries with different languages and cultures would agree to do so with a highly nationalistic topic like that. Every country had an own strategy. And these are music professionals. They are working in art. Have you seen the guy from Malta with the Teddy Bears? No way people like him let anybody explain to him what he has to vote for. And there was no leak, no article, nothing. It was by far the best song when you consider technical and aristic aspects. As a jury has to do.

The thing that confuses me the most about this year's competition is what the heck happened to Georgia. Me and my friends thought she was going top 5 lol. I think Croatia didn't win because the jury had an agenda and grouping up to have Switzerland win. They were great but it was obviously something strange going on. Other analyses stress that as well the jury than the public votes wouldn't have been withdrawn as much from Switzerland, than distributed differently between the other competitors. Why don't you agree? But as you said, The last minute disqualification of Netherlands wasn't good for no other participant. The result can't be reconstructed, but that would have been that, and no guessing about if and whens. And in the end, the effects of the new wars, in and in the vicinity of Europe are multiples. I'd say that the perturbation of the ESC, is one of the smaller pity of those messes. Leaning toward 88 because it has one of my favorite songs ever (Ireland), it had some fantastic, quirky entries (like Iceland), beautiful ballads (like Sweden), and incredible suspense until the very end (with England leading before the last jury, Switzerland getting only 6 point, bringing them one point ahead of England - and then waiting to hear England being mentioned in the final votes, but they didn’t). And, of course, Johnny Logan completely ignoring Celine Dion and even giving the trophy back to the composer when she passed it on to Celine. So many memorable moments in that show :)
