before trading or waiving trouba, you need to make sure your replacement is actually equal or better. the window for decent replacements has largely gone.

i thought of that - what if the nmc language is tied to the residency so in effect the NMC still stands. which is why the team would want to leak that they have a deal on the table. secondly i was watching a video by a former players wife who was saying that these agents make these ntc lists so that all the teams with cap room are on it so effectively a NMC.

They got him because of his playoff scoring and experience. He won a cup a year ago with Vegas knights. They trade him to Pittsburgh and he has a disaster year there. If he steps up his game, he is worth keeping another year.

Daniel Sprong, even at a multi-year contract would not have cost much. Certainly less than Smith, no lost draft picks, and Sprong has a better upside. 6' isn't small and he doesn't shy from contact. IF it turns out he doesn't work out, at a smaller contract he would have been easy to trade next year if they needed to clear cap space.

Very balanced take. What a weird situation. Ultimately Trouba has the right to block a trade to 15 teams, but he must report if he gets moved. Right now he’s holding the Rangers hostage by threatening to not report if he’s traded or claimed. The league needs to talk with him.

7:09 I read Brooks to mean that even if the Rangers trade Trouba to one of his approved teams (a team not on his 15 teams list), Trouba may not report to that team. Because he wants to remain in NYC with his family. He would be in breach of contract and wouldn't get paid, of course, but maybe he's willing to bail on his hockey career now. His doctor will be making doctor bucks soon. It's not like he absolutely needs the money.

It’s been reported that his contract had a clause stating that his wife could complete her medical residency(3yrs). This time frame will be delayed until 2025, since she is out on maternity leave.

Trouba’s cap hit is $8 million for the next two seasons….. his actual salary is $6 million for each year because of front loading the contract. If there was something in his contract regarding his wife the Rangers never would have asked for the no trade list. I think it’s time for the Rangers to end Larry Brooks’ access to the team. He has caused nothing but problems , the Goodrow situation and now with Trouba.

Hard to makes sense of this SNAFU by the Rangers. If the contract included a clause about his wife then why would Drury get any IDEA of trading him? Unless Drury didn't read his contract. And there are several lawyers covering maneuvers like this. How did the trade to Detroit specifically get leaked if there was a spark there? Larry Brooks is not a lazy reporter as far as I can tell, it was his article I believe. It seems most likely that the trade was all set and not on Trubas list etc. But Trouba didn't want to break up his family situation. I dont blame him for saying his family is more important to him than his career at this point. In that case Trouba could be sour on the whole deal and basically said " I ain't goin nowhere Sorry about that!" Anyway, that's the only sensible scenario to me. IDK. It's really unfortunate this occurred. It would be best to Trade him for sure. It could have been accomplished...perhaps the Islanders would be working close to home....LOL
