Remember like a bird opening their wings to fly, the higher the longer it needs to be. Your SWR will drop on the higher end when raised. Remember verticals have a lower take off angle than horizonal better for skip and locals but more noise. I RAN A moonraker 4 for many years that was both and found vertical better for DX. HAM beams are too long to do vertical.

You needed to shorten the elements so channel 40 would be lower.

Unlike the fiberglass antenna, this aluminum antenna is grounded. Offers Some Lightning protection, and reduced static . Brad, thank you for this video. And I left a like an am following your channel. 21 S.C. Old Radio Night.

i have 2 complaints about this radio.. The S meter comes faulty from the factory, some have found them to only go as high as S9, simple repair with a signal generator.. 2ND fault is when you change frequency like at 07:54.. if you dont put the frequency back to what it was before you changed it then the freq remains that for that channel! What im sayin is.. channel 38 is 27.385. When you change it to 27.380 and change channel and go back, your not on 38 anymore EVEN THOUGH THE DISPLAY SAYS YOU ARE, if you click freq it shows 27.380 (WHERE YOU LEFT OFF BEFORE) sooo put your freq back to match the channel before you change channels again!!!

I have ultraflex 7 i use for portable its great stuff and works nicely even upto vhf uhf deffo recommend

I wouldn't worry about water getting into the joint between the boom halves, as there's RF been carried by the boom. I'd be more worried about water getting into the gamma match or coax connector, etc.

I had an acvanti sigma 5/8 wave and the new maco is lighter not as heavy duty as 70"s antenna . My Maco gets wet swr goes up opposite of other antennas? 1# It was that stupid braid strap to ring replace it with coated Romex copper wire . But the ring needs to go . I had a 70"s copy of Ringo 11m groundplane it's ring aas replaced with a copper coil tapped 1.5 at 26.0 & 1.5 at 28.700 that's what the V 5/8 should do if yiu get rid ring well I'll experiment in summer 24 with it . Cause SWR is good for only 20- & 20+ channels so that's less bandwidth than A99 ? All antennas should work 26.505 to 27.855 without tuner ya Hey good older video makd more on the progress

1.5 or below that is good,still talk anywhere no point in complaining, 1.4 on mine talk anywhere long as conditions are right🤔

Heil ICM is a fantastic mic. That is my same setup but I run a UR6QW Audio processor with mine. Combined it is crazy audio but i had to reset the radio setting a lot.73s my friend and great vid.

Those SWR numbers look pretty damn good to me. I guess your looking for a flat SWR from 1 thru 40. Your doing the test with the antenna 4 ft above ground, Put the Siri’s up I’m sure you’ll be happy!

Had one of those many years ago , been into 11 meters since 1972 , just completed a 11 element vertical , works good , based on a 3 inch square aluminum tube , 6 10 foot sections , chat later

Now they work but I prefure a vertical matching network ..no coil no horizontal matching coil or ring . Example... The SPT500 or other networks ... Vertical networks produce less loss more current at feed point better gain...

SPT 500 is a good antenna ,but it could be better. I say this because I had the original super penetrator and regrettably gave it away and purchased spt 500. Assuming that it would perform as well as the original, was I wrong, and the quality of materials used on the matching section are a poor quality pot metal and a cheap grade of plastic that causes swr problems. I was an early adopter of the first version they since changed the materials used and can't speak to the performance. I had an opportunity to replace the hygain spt 500 with an original 10/11 meter version. The swr does go up during the rain to about 1.56.1, which is acceptable in inclement weather.

What you really need is some RG-213, a balun and a hairpin match to make that thing right !! 🤣🤣🤣
