Why does the simulation slow down after awhile?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 8 күн бұрын
These videos are not live recordings. The simulator exports still frames which I combine together into these videos. I've made it so the years tick by faster earlier on because not as much happens during those centuries as the later ones. That said, the simulator itself also slows down the more tiles and people are being simulated. On my end, in the final centuries a single year can take as much as 10 seconds to simulate. Which is why I make these videos instead of just livestreaming everything 😂

My prediction for the Vellenetorian Empire: after the death of Jebosedi IV, from 6098-6155 the Empire will slowly fall by peacefully giving up land by giving it to surrounding nations to granting independence to those lands and the only evidence of its massive empire which spanned more than half the world will be the tiny islands it still holds, much like Britain in our world. There’s also the possibility of a worldwide collapse from this empire and about a third of the population dies out in a matter of a couple decades which leads to a loss of progress for civilization by a few hundred years.

Why get coasts colonized so fast?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 8 күн бұрын
I forgot the details and would have to look at the code to see exactly how it worked. Part of it is just that it's easier for populations to spread along coasts because there's a sea-travel mechanic for stuff like that. Another part is that I've intentionally buffed coastal spread to try and ensure that most of the world's continents get at least some settled presence after the first thousand years or so. Hope that clears things up a bit!

@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 11 күн бұрын
Some climates are just too uninhabitable. Overall, I don't want too much land to get settled because it slows down the simulation too much. Once modernization (white tech on the tech bar) hits nations who are modernizing can colonize wilderness, but they may not get to all of it before the simulation ends, and some places like the polar icecaps are set to just be unable to be settled ever. Hope that explains it! 👍

The name generation system is designed to mimic real world languages. It uses lists of real world words and names as a base, which means it will also sometimes generate actual real world words and names. So the answer to your question is "yes and no." No, it's not a coincidence that the simulation created Arabic-sounding names and that some of these ended up being real world names. Arabic is one of the several dozen languages the simulation uses to generate names. But yes, it is a coincidence that this particular name showed up at that particular place and time. It's not meant to be an actual reference to the real world place in any way! Hope that answers your question 👍

How do i interpret the highest tech bar?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 15 күн бұрын
The highest tech bar is a bit of an imperfect representation of global advancement because the actual technology mechanics are tile-based (there's no global or even state-wide technology, it's all per tile, as the Civilization map in the 4-way split at the end shows.) The technology bar shows the HIGHEST level ever reached by any tile in that technology type. The colors represent the three different kinds of progression/advancements in the simulation: 🟦 Blue represents societal advancements. Meaning societal organization, developments that lead to greater urbanization and population density, etc.. 🟥 Red represents technological advancements. Meaning invention of new techniques, skills, scientific knowledge. Red advancements by themselves don't do too much, but they make Blue advancements possible. 🟪 Purple is just the overlap of Blue + Red both being present/discovered. ⬜ White is modernization and a high levels early industrialization. It is only possible to start modernization if a tile has reached max blue level, but modernization unlocks things like long-range colonization and other mechanics, like higher longevity for rulers. The simulation currently ends 50 years after a tile has reached max modernization. (That's why the final year varies from video to video, some worlds develop faster than others based on climate, amount of habitable land, etc.) That's why I show the highest technology on the bar, because it reflects how close the simulation is to finishing. Even though it's a very imperfect measure of the state of the world overall.

@NeoWish
@NeoWish 18 күн бұрын
How does this simulation exactly work anyway? Anyway i think coasts (with some gradient from the bodies of water inward) should be easier to keep like reduced costs. Tech spread should be a bit faster too (or slower inland) Actions in coasts should have bonuses in both defense and offense.
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 18 күн бұрын
@@NeoWish Coasts give some advantages. It's a complex simulation so it's a number of factors that go into it. But climate is also really important. An inland tile with a very habitable climate is going to do better than a coastal tile that's mostly desert. There could be more features handling rivers and coastal defense/offense though, yeah. It's on my to-do list but it hasn't been a priority. I'm also a bit hesitant at the moment to do things that will mess-up overall balance since it was pretty difficult to get the balance as good as it is, and I want to enjoy that for a bit before I add things that mess it up and require lots of rebalancing again. 😂

I wonder if you left this running for long enough; would one country eventually emerge and unite the entire planet?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 25 күн бұрын
Prooobably. Primarily because of the way modernization/industrialization (white technology on the bar and on the map) is designed to have really large effects on population and power, on the basis of it normally never spreading all that far before the simulation ends. If you'd just let it run forever, there's no mechanic to stop or hamper explosive industrial growth in a realistic manner, so you'd end up with one nation eventually conquering the world and be more or less unstoppable. The simulation also runs really slow at that point though, so it'd take like a week of constantly running it to get it to that point. 😂

How do colonial empires decide if to turn a estate into a colony or something else? And are there puppet goverments?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator Ай бұрын
Colonialism, in this simulator, is specifically a mechanic that enables with modernization (white technology on the bar). It's not super complicated, modernising states will make colonies out of non-modernized states, and are able to attack across oceans to do so. There's a puppet government mechanic for colonies, but I'll admit it's kind of basic right now. More a placeholder for when I develop that more than something that's very impactful in the current version. 👍

Also it was cool to follow Kin of Tolberg from its appearance around year 100, through all its growth and unions for the next couple thousand years. It disappeared from top 30 in the 2700s, but reappeared around 2950, and even hit the top three again in the 4100s as a Republic (which is what that caught my attention and made me backtrack to trace its full history). Was hoping it would last till the very end of the video, but alas it seems to have disappeared for good by the 4400s after getting slowly eaten away by its neighbors (I believe Tharto ate the last of it).

The Simulator really isn't designed for that, I'm afraid. It would just run increasingly slower till it crashed due to memory errors. Hey what exactly is an exarchate?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator Ай бұрын
In real life, an Exarchate is a government whose head of state is titled an Exarch (the same way a Dictatorship is run by a Dictator). The term comes from classical Greek and there have been various different uses of the term and title throughout history, some military, and some religious. It is the religious usage that I use it for in the simulator. Governments are divided into either monarchies or republics, and then for each there are plutocratic, aristocratic, and theocratic government types. Currently there's no mechanical difference for these later types, only monarchies and republics are truly different (monarchs rule till they die, but republics elect their rulers for set terms and then have new elections). TL;DR: An Exarchate is the highest level attainable for theocratic monarchies. The other two levels are Eparchy (the lowest) and Archeparchy (the mid-tier). What determines level at the moment is just size. So, kingdoms become empires if they get big enough, and similarly Archeparchies become Exarchates when they become big enough. Hope that explains it! 👍 The names for different government types aren't entirely historically accurate, but especially for theocratic governments I wanted more neutral-sounding (in English) terms. So I avoided using something like "bishoprics" or "caliphate" since those are heavily associated with real world religions. At the moment there's no religion mechanic in the simulator, but a (fantasy) religion mechanic is high on my list of major features I want to be adding when I have time again. ❤

Thank you! ❤This map is procedurally made. I have adopted an open source project called World Engine to serve as a procedural map maker (with some of my own improvements, you can find a release of the map generator on the Discord). Older maps generally used some kind of random generation, but also involved a lot of manual labor on my part. Also, the current map generator allows for inputting custom height maps, which is how I was able to make the Mars map and the upcoming Venus map. There's real life high quality height data for those planets. The map generator is able to take that and generate appropriate climates and rivers and all that the simulation needs in addition to elevation. 👍
