I’ve heard this episode so many times but this is my first seeing it. Jenny is super charismatic, also as a listener I appreciated when she would bring the Mike close just to laugh. It was helpful to know when she was or wasn’t fine with something.

I saw one of those "initiation jumpings" literally right in front of me once. Anecdotal 'cuz it's just one but, I mean, they hit you. They don't break all your bones or whatever but I mean, it's def not just to scare you. That may be part of the goal to make sure you're cool under pressure or whatever, but the pressure def includes being, ya know, hit. The whole point is after it's over they help you stand back up and then everybody daps it out so again no they don't actually like curb stomp your head, you're supposed to be "fine" (in pain and with wounds but "fine", the gang doesn't exactly want to make a hospital trip) but it's not just like movie level "pretending to hit you", they def hit you Like..... This doesn't give a metric 'cuz there are way too many variables such as my limits for allowing violence (quite low, I don't like it), but, it happened right in front of me and I was like one or two stimuli away from trying to fight like four or five dudes off of this kid. Context, I do happen to know for sure I could have beat any one of them (we wrestled around a lot, it was a group home) but I am *obviously* not beating four or five people, and they're mid jump, if I interrupt this I'm about to get molliwopped, consider it a death sentence (huge overstatement but you get the point) and I alllmost did. I was one hit too hard or two hits to a wrong place away from forcing myself into the middle of four or five dudes all mid jump just to save a kid I barely knew from a thing I knew wasn't "real" (ie I could tell it was some kind of, in retrospect initiation thing) BUT I didn't ...so.... if that helps you get any idea of what we're looking at. Like if you're seeing it it's going to grate up against your empathy, it's going to be obvious to you that somebody is getting hurt and you won't like it but it's not SO bad that IF you know it's "fake" and it's "going to be fine" you still can't manage to not stop it even at the risk of your own safety. There. That's the best metric I can give you. It's bad enough to be frustrating and allllmost actually scary (like, knowing it's fake you're still thinking "uuuuhhh...."), but you can notice if you're looking that they clearly are not stomping with full force etc etc. Again, the point is def to hit you, but then def to help you stand up after the fact and dap it out. You won't sleep comfortably that night, but you will sleep in your own bed and not a hospital
