What food did you mess up on the grill that turned out great the next time you cooked it?
@365black2Күн бұрын
Royal Oak is the worst charcoal ever made. my go to and what I been using for years is B&B it burns longer and hotter then the others.

Good analysis. As always in the end it is the pitmaster and not the pit. The differences are often so minute that you can only tell in a direct side-by-side comparison.

Curious why you positioned the bird over the coals the way you did. Why didn’t you run it the length of the drip pan?
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ4 күн бұрын
I realized this point after the cook. It would have been more efficient to position it the other way. I don’t think it made much difference in the long run…. the bird still turned out great.

Why not set the kamado up with the heat deflector. And a water pan to make it inefficient?
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ5 күн бұрын
I tried to make things more similar since the kettle doesn’t have a heat deflector. Using the slow n sear in both felt reasonable.

Any suggestions on how to cold smoker with a Weber kettle?
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ6 күн бұрын
I haven't tried it but I think the key is to use a small amount of charcoal. I would set them up similar to the snake method. Use wood chips instead of chunks & soak them. Keep the bottom vents mostly closed and only open the top vents slightly.

Thank you for the video! When I was cooking on Weber kettle I went with Kingsford Original. Then I updated to Oklahoma Joe barrel grill and found the Kingsford burned too fast. Now I see it's not just me. I've since upgraded to Kingsford Professional (from Costco) and it is better for low and slow cooking. Though, I'm moving out of my comfort zone to lump.
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ10 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I always thought that Kingsford Professional burned hotter than Original. I’m surprised to hear that you use Professional for low & slow.

Why buy a solar-powered electric grill when you have the same with your kitchen stove already, but with probably much better results? If you want to experience outdoor cooking nothing will beat a regular grill. Also, there's nothing "green" about the production or life cycle of batteries, you are even less mobile with a heavy battery pack and solar panels. And as someone who uses non-electric solar cookers a lot I also wouldn't recommend them for a bbq.

The problem with any new technology is that when it is first introduced it typically isn't a drop in replacement for the existing technology that people are accustomed to. Solar grills/smokers might show promise but being a viable alternative requires being a drop in replacement for existing technologies AND provide a relatively fraction less experience for those used to traditional grills/smokers. Furthermore there will be pushback from stakeholders who are invested in traditional grills/smoker (i.e charcoal producers, propane producers, etc).

It will take time, but I think they will eventually carve their place in the marketplace especially when the younger generation (Gen Z) becomes interested in outdoor cooking.

Thank you for this video comparison. My go to has always been Kingsford! I have tried different lump charcoal in the past but have never had any issues with the King. I do miss the old 2x20lb for 9.99 sales at Lowes! Couldn't ever pass that up. I got so much from them that o still have some from those days, lol! Unfortunately with this day comes cost so I will be seeing what else is out there. Thank you again!
