Thanks for watching & commenting! Yes! Hard to believe we're at this point already...always amazes us how quickly they grow...& hard to figure out how it seems like we're almost to the end of production for this flock but it also feels like forever to get through the next 11 days. The 22nd is so close but seems like it's so far. Thank you again for supporting our channel. We appreciate it!

Hi, Steve! Thanks for watching & commenting! Anything for our meat birds!!! 🤣 Really, though, who would've thought they'd make box fans in purple...we would've been perfectly happy without purple box fans, but purple was the only option when we got these. It was take 'em in purple, or leave 'em, & we weren't leavin' 'em...we had already bought out the box fans of our most local dollar store & needed a few more...we have quite a collection of barn box fans now. 😊 Honestly, I think it's the first time in my life I've seen purple box fans. Does get a good breeze going, & the purple ones do seem to impress the birds! Thanks again for watching & commenting. Actually had multiple technical difficulties today with my video uploads, so I'm glad this short loaded, at least. We had a new idea for a video series theme, & I got content prepared, & the platform won't recognize the data...says the file isn't saved, & it can't upload it. On the device, though, the file is most definitely saved & accessible. Striking out with what I really want to upload, but fortunately had this snip saved from adding the fans to the pen, & fortunately it uploaded.

@@twinoaksfarmpoultry we only have one box fan and it’s not even purple, it was 100 degrees yesterday and they have survived so far. There freezer camp day is approaching July 31st at 8 weeks. 100 birds have gone through 2200 pounds of feed. I only bought 3000 I will probably order more tomorrow. They sure are hungry little vultures

Sounds like your flock is doing great. Strong appetites...it's good the heat didn't put them off their feed. That's wonderful! Had you mentioned not too long ago your flock was saturating the bedding material super quick...I wondered if you thought running several fans in there if possible would help with drying the bedding material out any...I don't know, just brainstorming. We do notice the more airflow & ventilation we have, including keeping the doorways propped open & using all the extra fans, the easier it seems we can keep bedding conditioned & the less bedding we have to use. If you have lots of floor space in terms of stocking density, which I was thinking maybe you said you had about 4 sq ft per bird currently, you could also semi-confine the flock to a smaller floor space, giving part of the floor a short rest period, & then alternate the birds between the 2 floor spaces. The rest periods really seem to help floor condition; we've used that tactic alot for a floor improvement strategy. Again, just brainstorming...I realize those ideas may not be applicable to particulars of your set-up. July 31 will be here before you know it. Isn't it amazing how quickly the birds start, grow, & finish? Amazes me every time!!! And, yes, they are hungry vultures...ours are on track with target feed consumption for what we expect & estimate them to eat total start to finish, but their feed consumption rate is picking up...I was assessing this afternoon if we're going to hold to our target feed consumption rate or if this flock might go over...I think we're exactly on it, but we're keeping it closely monitored. They do have significant appetites! God bless y'all!

@@twinoaksfarmpoultry we only have 2 weeks and a couple days to go. I did move the fan to the floor after I seen your fan position which has helped. I have several bales of pine shavings still to put down and wondered about the cost of buying more fans. We have discussed getting another flock but since we don’t really sell any of our birds it doesn’t seem plausible to do so and unless I see stress in our birds I guess I will save our fan money till next year. Besides if I can’t have purple I just ain’t gonna play… 😆 as of now we haven’t lost a single bird which is amazing in its self. God bless y’all and thanks for your content

You're welcome, & thank you for supporting our channel!!! Y'all are doing a great job with your flock. Keep up the good work, & hang in there. These box fans we've got were $ 24 each for the plain ol' neutral tone ones & $ 17 for those purple ones. 🤣 In this flock we've got going, the fans do seem to be a help. That said, though, I agree with your approach with your flock...definitely the birds' behavior is the best indicator of what is working or needing adjustment, & for me, personally, with the fans, I in general try to avoid using fans if at all possible, so if 1 is getting the job done with your flock, yes, I would definitely stick with that for the birds. I am not a fan of forced air movement in poultry pens...totally get that we need to mitigate heat & have excellent air quality & give the birds moving air, but I hold to my perspective that moving air also moves potential pathogens, & as much for the people as the flock, we want to avoid airborne pathogen exposure as much as possible. I definitely took off on a tangent there; apologies! Thanks again for supporting our channel! God bless y'all!

Hi! It's Melissa from Twin Oaks Family Farm/Twin Oaks Farm Poultry. Thank you for watching & commenting! Following are just my opinions to answer the great questions you presented! For all future dog owners, I just mainly recommend keeping in mind a dog is definitely a long-term commitment & needs daily attention & care, & there is definitely a financial commitment to the dog's physical needs, too. Also, they should consider the size of dog & activity level that can realistically be integrated into the household; that will probably influence if they want a big dog or a small dog. They want to keep in mind that most dogs shed, too, so dog hair will be everywhere alot of the time, but non-shedding types are available; however, non-shedding dogs do need regular grooming. Finally, puppies especially have a tendency to chew on things until they grow up some, so be prepared to 1, provide them things acceptable for chewing on & 2, constructively teach them not to chew on everything in sight. I have another tip for future dog owners that might be a hands-on way of becoming familiar with different breeds or types of dogs...I've never done this myself, but I think it would be a super way to help dogs while learning about a wide variety of types & temperaments & ages of dogs...I think volunteering at an animal shelter would be a great way to become familiar with a variety of dog breeds. The dog breed my household is most comfortable with is the Labrador Retrievers. They are big dogs, though, & they do shed alot, & they are typically pretty active dogs, so their size & activity level should be taken into consideration. The Dachshund seems to like to be active like Labs are, but being a much smaller dog, the Dachshund seems to require less space. Our Dachshund loves to go outside & run, but he's also very happy playing fetch indoors with a tennis ball. The Dachshund does shed, but the shedding doesn't seem as heavy as shedding from a Labrador Retriever. Those 2 breeds are our favorite breed choices for family dogs, but often times mixed breed dogs have great temperaments & would make an awesome pet; it's a great idea to look at animal shelters, too, & see if there's a dog that can be adopted from a shelter. We also have a Teddy Bear dog that is a mix of Bichon Frise & Shih Tzu, & he is a sweetheart. He doesn't shed, so he has to be groomed. We also noticed he has less homing instinct than Labs & Dachshunds, so he was harder for us to train to come when called than the Labs & Dachsund. We have a beagle, too, & he was bred for rabbit hunting, so he has a different temperament than a dog that's strictly a pet...the beagle is loving & a great dog, but his hunting instinct to follow a rabbit trail is always on, so he has to be housed & handled slightly differently than the Lab & Dachshund & Teddy Bear. There are definitely differences in breed characteristics. On the last thought, about getting a dog familiar with a new home, there are some things we think are helpful to do...have a pretty consistent routine for the basics like feeding times & potty training efforts & the household's sleeping patterns, give the dog plenty of opportunities to play & expend energy, give the dog a crate or a small room or dog pen & use it overnight or a little bit each day so the dog does have kind of its own safe space (we had a Lab break a leg once & he had already been crate trained, & he actually limped as fast as he could go to his crate when he got injured b/c he felt that was his safe space...we were able to get him to a vet for emergency surgery to repair his broken leg & he's still with us, but he showed us how much a dog can really appreciate his safe space), be with the dog as much as possible the dog's first week in a new home, & be patient. Really, that's such an important thing with puppies or dogs, & I really call it the 3 p's of puppyhood...patience, persistence, & perseverance. We've found the more time we can spend with a dog, the better that dog becomes. They want attention, & they love to spend time with their people. It's great to train dogs to sit, stay, lay down, come when called, & work & walk off-leash, but at a minimum, start with sit, & do teach the dog to walk on-leash...I see alot of folks never teach a dog to walk on-leash, & there are times it's better for the dog to be on a leash, so that is a really good skill for us to help our dogs learn to do well. Thank you for asking great questions. I love working with dogs. I hope some of these ideas are helpful! Blessings to you, & have a great week!

Hi, Steve! Thanks for watching & commenting! I appreciate the positive feedback about the floor condition, & I am sorry to hear you're experiencing high maintenance this go around with floor condition. I know that maintaining floor quality for birds is high-maintenance! Pine shavings are an expense that adds up quickly, too. It is frustrating when you're adding bedding & not seeing the floor condition improve...& you're right that it can go from stellar to soaked overnight. Truly, in this group of 400, it can seem like it goes from stellar to soggy in about 2 hours...we've been turning it about 3 to 4 times a day since Wednesday. We have also put in about 11 bags shavings from Monday July 1 to Sunday July 7. The bedding we've added in this week, & turning it so frequently, has really helped keep it in great shape so far...I will add, though, that being able to use the building as intended with doorways open on each side really helps with the floor condition, too...it seems to allow so much ventilation that the bedding gets an opportunity to air out some. Every chicken pen definitely has its unique particulars, & of course, the weather can have an impact even on the floor inside a barn, so I know you're doing all you can to condition the floor for your flock. I hope it improves. I would think the more bedding you get in there, it would have some dry bedding under the top layer...have you already been turning the bedding over to aerate it? I don't know if that would help. It might be worth a try. Thank you again for watching & commenting! We greatly appreciate it! God bless y'all!

I loved it when the stores were all closed on Sundays...& the phone never left the house. We try not to shop on Sundays, but it's not the same. The culture is conditioned to seven days of full send, & that presses in on you even when you don't directly participate in it. One year we opted our kids out of little kids' football because the games were on Sundays...luckily the games were moved to Saturdays the next year. Amen! We do need God's blessings. 10 reasons of why not to be a farmer. Cute. We have thought of that many times, and that is precisely why our name came to be: Farmer Always - because farming never stops! Fun video, I like this one a lot. Also, Happy Independence Day from us, even if this comment comes a few days late, we were thinking of you all day July 4th, and hoping you were having a good day, and were able to celebrate. We had Canada Day July 1, and ended up working with cattle that day. Accomplished much, but still dream of the moments that we could take time off, instead of the constant busy! But... we did make cows happy, as some got to go to summer pasture that day!

Hi, Tanya & family. We did get to celebrate July 4...just a little, but it was still wonderful & refreshing...we watched fireworks at 10 p.m. put on by the local American Legion Post 389, & it was cool by then, so it felt good just to sit & visit & relax with some friends & extended family. Most of our day for my husband & I was in the bird barn, & it was hot weather, so it wiped us out, but the work we did helped the birds alot. I enjoyed reading your comment so much...fun to find common ground on the obligations & demands of farming! I love the story behind your farm name...so true...a farmer is a Farmer Always no matter what the weather does or what the calendar says! Happy Canada Day after the fact to y'all!!! I looked up Canada Day to learn some history on it. July 1, 1867. Awesome! Very interesting Canadian history. I'm going to read up more in it. Thanks for sharing about it! I'm on the struggle bus today with trying to get a video done. I've tried twice. Kind of a trainwreck both times...getting tongue-tied & losing my train of thought. We're so far getting a little reprieve from the heat for today, & we were relieved to get a little rain the last couple of days...ground is still dry, but the crops desperately needed it! Real Feel is about 85°F here as of right now. We left fans on the meat birds overnight & now have the big doors all open to make the building into breezeway for them, & we'll leave the fans on all day...just 3 box fans in there for now but may add a few more over the weekend. They want to be about 70°F - 75°F. Fortunately, the egg hens tolerate heat waves better than the meat birds, but it is hard on them, too. The flock is a poultry production flock being raised to finish at 41 days of age. Makin' meat in 6 weeks means takin' care of the chickens everyday...even on holidays. 🇺🇸 This video includes our experiences with the potential pitfalls of adding in fans for forced air movement.

Our poultry feed producing industries do also mix antibiotics but in my city Karachi , i believe Marjan feed industry does not mix anti biotics & our poultry farmers mostly give antibiotics , among them enrofloxacin, Colistin + Neomycin & Doxycycline, separately to meat birds in drinking water # yes Coccidiosis is a pathogen which cause intestinal tract & other systemic infection in meat birds # right now our poultry farm live chicken price has gone down to 300 Rs , around $ 1 per Kg # but will rise up to 420 Rs , around $ 1.5 , within days # Our poultry farmers in Pakistan , particularly in my City Karachi , get around $ 300 profit per 1000 meat birds in around 35 to 40 days # ❤️ 🇵🇰

good floor bed shuffling # it is necessary b coz manure & urine get beneath the bed where air couldn't reach & pathogen can grow & Ammonia is produced which is highly toxic for meat chickens # ❤️🇵🇰

Tanner never gives up 😂 Isn't it Marek's disease that causes the gray eyes/blindness and gait problems? Or do both of them do that? I guess I'll have to go look it up, it'll be my new thing I learn today - I like to learn something new every day if I can.

Hi, Tina! ❤️ You're right...on both things...Tanner is a persistent pup, & Marek's Disease (from what I've read) does cause all those things, too! Actually, I believe that you are really accurate that those symptoms would generally point to Marek's. I didn't do a good job describing that my understanding is those symptoms relative to coccidossis are an indicator of a more chronic or systemic coccidossis infection. Thanks for questioning me & the info I included in the video! It's a great point you bring up that those symptoms are indicators of Marek's. I will give some thought to how I can make an improvement on this. Thanks, Tina!

Hi, Tina. Melissa again. I meant to add 2 other things. One, I also am open to the possibility that I misunderstood or misinterpreted information I have read...I will have to go back & review things I've researched, too. My recollection is that I have read coccidossis that doesn't get fought off by the bird can continue to express in the intestines (which I should've mentioned is an instance in poultry when we'd see red in the manure), & it could potentially express in the eyes & joints...& you're right those are known indicators of Marek's...so I am wondering maybe in general are those sites where inflammation & infection in chickens is prone to express. Thanks again! Also, Happy Fourth of July. God bless you!!!

I LOVE Dahlias! When the Dahlia plant freezes in fall and wilts after a killing frost, we trim and dig them a few days later, keep the roots indoors dry and cool (not frozen- as they would if we left them outside here in Canada), then they sprout in the spring, we replant, and start the cycle again. Love love love the blooms. Can't wait to see what color(s) yours turn out to be. Beautiful garden! Good video, I like the variety you have. Keep it up!

Thanks, Tanya! I appreciate the tips on how to take care of the Dahlia tubers. I am so excited to see them in bloom. I think there are 4 varieties. 1 may be Isabel, & 1 may be Ivanetti. I am not sure of the other 2. It will be a fun surprise to see the colors. I made notes on your feedback on caring for them; thanks again! God bless y'all! Have a great weekend!

@@FarmerAlways Thanks! I'll try to remember to do a follow-up on this upgrade...I can say my husband & I tend to like the trucks left stock, & these young guys tend to like to add tuners & turbos & horsepower. I did have a Smarty Jr Tuner on a different '03 Dodge Cummins, & my husband & I did like it. We felt it did improve fuel efficiency. My husband & I don't suggest Edge tuners on Duramax engines, but Cummins engines seem to do well with Edge tuners. We'll let you know how Drew likes this Edge Evolution on his '03. Would you believe he is harvesting sweet corn this week...he's away from home (but close by) for the week with a harvesting crew, & the corn is hand picked & bagged overnight each day. It's The Witten Farm Market & Greenhouse of Lowell, Ohio; you might be able to look the farm up online...I think they keep a website current. It's hard work, but we think what a great experience for these young guys to be a part of producing food. Thanks again, Tanya! God bless y'all! Have a great day! Oh, I've been thinking of y'all, because we had a few days of beautiful, mild temperatures, & I heard the reason was because we had a Canadian cool front sweep through...well, it was heavenly...now it's high 90's again...probably gonna have to add fans to the chicken building...they're wanting it to be about 70°F now, so I guess our best bet in the next few weeks may be some fans.

It's July 3, & the countdown is on...countdown to Independence Day at TwinOaksFamilyFarm in rural Southeast Ohio, USA. 1 day until the USA's big day, & we're enjoying simple things to build up the anticipation to our beloved 4th of July holiday! Red, White, & "Blue" Petunias on the porch, a Patriotic Porch Wreath, & the 3 new Star-Spangled Banners for the porch, & then it's Independence Day! We are looking forward to the day set aside to celebrate our American Independence, & we're excited to see it capped off by the spectacular local fireworks on the night of July 4. One of our family's favorite July 4th themes is American history. Hear some interesting history trivia surrounding the American Flag, Fourth of July foods, & the significance of July 2nd in 1776! 🇺🇸 Check out a beautiful performance of the American National Anthem at the following link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNV6rMRpyN-qmoU.htmlsi=75I4K32cTrvQpqRO "Thanks for watching.
