Well that interpretation just shows the lack of understanding for the character

This video is the issue with video essay content sometimes. It's just over the top analysis of something that fundamentally didn't have anywhere near as much thought as the person making the video thinks was there.

Just listened to a nearly three-hour essay on Breaking Bad, and I've come to a conclusion that almost nobody has their own opinions on Breaking Bad. The majority of people's opinions are formed in opposition to other peoples' opinions on the show. "Walter White? BASED- I hate Skylar!" "Skylar is literally a sainted christlike figure that only nazels would hate!" "Breaking Bad is about a repressed man finally becoming an alpha gigachad!" "Breaking Bad is about how men in pursuit of masculinity are irredeemable toxic savages!" Due to the discourse, there's absolutely no room left for a nuanced take on the characters and show- Walt is either Jesus or Satan. Great video, though. You sound like The Amazing Atheist without the pretentiousness.

You lost me on the masculinity tirade. The rest was fascinating up to that point, and probably pretty good after, but I don't need a lecture on what "being a man" means. Your view on that phrase is shamefully misguided. Masculinity is about virtue. Not about represseing emotions. It's about protecting that which you hold dear. Including your own convictions. Instead you made it about some woke push back nonsense. Thanks for the video and have a nice day.

Walter White being a bad guy is the main thing. Many men can relate to him, his problems, his mistakes, his arrogance and his miserable existance. I dont need main characters to be good , I need them to be relatable

2hrs and 43 mins of demonizing Walt without any understanding for his actions, whilst making countless excuses for other morally bankrupt characters with a smarmy attitude. Shitty video, Aleczandxr's "Hidden Origin of Heisenberg" video blows this out of the water.

Okay but as a therapist the sapranos NEEDS to be on your list. I'd be so intrigued in your perception of Tony's psyche and his (debatable depending on who you ask) psychopathy

I didnt even know better call saul was prequel when i started it. at the time i was always put off by breaking bad without ever really giving it a chance. Boy when i realized it was connected (half way thru the show) i watched breaking bad after the ending of better call saul and it was perfect

The second time I watched Better Call Saul, I noticed how much Kim and Saul/Jimmy were in love. The first time through, of course I noticed that they were a couple. But the second time through, it’s almost painful how much they love each other. It’s sweet.

I had a very different interpretation of Jimmy meeting Howard and then deciding not to get therapy. It's almost comedic when Jimmy asks if the therapist is any good, and Howard says "Great!" while looking so disheveled. Jimmy sees this and thinks, if this is what it looks like when therapy works, then I don't even want to try

Walter didn’t have to learn the meth process after seeing the news story. My friend is a chemistry major and he said it’s pretty easy to make meth, but hard and illegal to get the reactants.

Really interesting perspective on The School of Life. You have made me view their videos more objectively. Someone else has explained the CBT session number issue in the UK in its floundering mental health system. Also, De Botton is training to become a psychotherapist I read. As a counsellor, I felt strongly he is sidelining CBT and the aim is to ensure psychotherapy wins in the modality race! I practise using both models and different clients require different approaches.

What you say at 4:23 is the exact reason why people find it crazy that you didn't watch breaking bad first as the way it was written for the audience. You say that it was a world that jesse and Walter enter, but it's actually a world saul enters, hence why he's introduced later in the show and doesn't get a spinoff show till later. Even in the spinoff show, it's all about how and why he chose to indulge in the criminal behaviors and practices he commited instead of staying above board like he had plenty chances to. Idk you might enjoy the show different, but you're still robbing yourself of the natural progression of the story. It's like being late for a movie only to see the last 30 mins, and you don't rewatch the movie until it's on cable

I watched BCS up and through season 5 and then breaking bad and then season 6. I did it accidentally honestly because season 6 wasn't out yet but I think it's the perfect way to watch the show.

Just a random note, the "apology" at 1:35:30 is a great example of how these sorts of characters can be great to learn how NOT to act from. For example, I like the inverse of his shitty "apology" rather than "that wasn't me" a better and more genuine way to apologize is to say "i wasn't who i want to be". It acknowledges your roll and participation in the behavior, but also communicates your desire to change or rise above that behavior moving forward
