Loved The Measure but I read it with a book group and the discussion influenced my rating. I’m intrigued by the classic bee book. I read another book by that author, Girl of the Limberlost (I think) and liked it so I’ll look for the one about bees. I’m not a romcom fan myself.

I imagine a book club discussion would boost my enjoyment of the book as well. I didn’t think I was a romcom reader, but here I am 😅

The Measure and Just for the Summer were 5 star reads for me. Romance hits us all differently. I have only read one Emily Henry that I loved. But I expected everyone (you) to love The Measure. It is in my top 5 favorite for this year. You convinced me that I need to read the Bee book you liked so much. I hope it is available at my library. Have a lovely weekend.

Thanks Katie! The Measure definitely had some interesting themes. It would have made a great book club book.

I’m so glad you enjoyed Funny Story! I liked it, but Just For the Summer was my preference of the two. I appreciate a love interest willing to care for the mc when she’s ill, even they need to somehow pilot a unicorn pool floaty across a lake to reach them 😂

Now that I think about it, I liked the concept and the writing in The Measure more than the characters. I can’t remember one single character or their decision! I rated it 4 stars but I think if it drew me into the characters’ lives I would have given it 5. I hate miscommunications and insta love too!

Yes, great concept -- characters not my fave. Otherwise, I probably would have loved it!

Glad to know about this readathon! I just finished reading Night Watch by Jayne Anne Phillips, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for 2024. It is a very interesting Civil War-era historical fiction novel centered around trauma & the ethical treatment of those suffering; it will fulfill criteria #1 on the list! So I’ve already started the readathon 😊

Loved the Thorn Birds so much!! I must have read it 30 years ago and still remember it! I own Wolf Hall, and have read many Tudor era books, but I'm afraid to start this one....people have repeatedly mentioned the author's style of writing being difficult to read or maybe to follow. I just need to jump in and give it a try!
@GloriaZThompson11 күн бұрын
Definitely give it a go, but I regret to inform that I have DNFd Wolf Hall. I could not figure out what was happening and was not a fan of the writing. But make up your own mind and see if it works for you.

I wasn't a fan of Wolf Hall.. it was long for me 😛 I read The Red Tent a LONG TIME AGO.. so my thoughts might not still be the same.. but I liked it.. I mean suspend disbelief of it being biblically accurate but I have thought about parts of it.. like how much I would love to go to The Red Tent and hang out for a week once a month and not have to do my daily tasks..hahahaha

So I DNFd Wolf Hall already, not for me! Haha, that's hilarious! I would love that too. Sign out of life for a week, please and thank you.

I am going to read the Thorn Birds this summer. Also! I am re-reading Hotel on the Corner this summer because I barely remember it, but I DO remember loving it. Raving about it. Telling everyone to read it. As a fellow PNW girlie (currently living in East Africa) it was so amazing. And I remember that I kept calling my mom (who grew up near Portland) and asking her if the history of was true. And yes. It was. Slightly traumatic. But SO good.

I think you will enjoy The Thorn Birds - I recently picked up another copy of this one, as I read it many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it and want to re-read it. I am liking the Maisie Dobbs series ( just 5 books in so far ) would not deem this series as cozy, but more historical. I have the Sarah Furgeson on my shelves, and want to purchase the 2nd one she's written. I too am very intimidated by Wolf Hall - and haven't picked it up yet. The Red Tent was a good read - love that cover, I don't read any biblical fiction - but don't recall having an issue flying thru this one. Enjoy all the good reads!!

Maisie Dobbs I enjoyed the first few in the series (it lost something after the 3 or fourth book for me.) I’ve read 3 others from your TBR - I’ll be curious to hear how you get on with them. 😅

There is an assumption, when you read Wolf Hall, that you (the reader) understand the historical context of Tudor England and its complexities. Those I know who did not finish the novel became mired in the book's assumptions. Please let me know if you need assistance as you read; I would love to reread the novel alongside you.
@GloriaZThompson11 күн бұрын
Great way of putting it! I actually just decided to put Wolf Hall down today because I could not get into it. I had no idea who is who or what was going on. It was jumping around too much and I wasn't caring for the audiobook narration as well. Unfortunately, I don't think it's my kind of book.

Maisie Dobbs is great. I've "read" the whole series via audiobook, which are great if you have access to them. Orlagh Cassidy is a very good narrator, in my opinion! I was middle of the road on The Red Tent. The beginning was better than the end. There are some descriptive love scenes, nothing too graphic but did make me a bit uncomfortable.

I've watched so many videos on how people adjust their favorite lists. I have changed my views on so many things and books as I look back. But I don't erase my past.
