I’m not a Prius fan by any means but I do love the 1st gen. I miss that they were built like a sedan over the hatchback. I would have much preferred it to follow the Corolla or Camry route. I’ve driven the 2nd and 3rd gen and I just feel like the car is uncomfortable and basic. I mean like caveman basic. But at the end of the day who cares, it gets like 50mpg😂

I really appreciate this breakdown and am following these steps. Thanks! Many other sources suggest a lower amperage. 6 amps does seem fairly aggressive compared to conventional reconditioning. Can someone help me understand the reasoning for the Amps suggested?

Hello, thank you so much for this info. It was the first very hot summer day and I drove my Toyota hybrid (Nimh) with AC off. After a while I noticed the ic-engine wouldn't turn off and electric driving was not possible. After parking in the shade with AC blasting and cooling down the cabin, the car would drive again in EV mode. (Till it heated up again, because AC was off again). I was figuring already it had something to do with the battery temps and some sort of safety program kicking in to preserve the battery health. Did I damage the battery? Or did the system do its thing to play it safe? According to your paper up to the 2 minute mark in the video, what would you say what temps was the battery seeing? Was the system already imposing a discharge limit? (Fuel consumption was getting worse). After this experience I'll use the AC, but only because of the battery. No other reason.

Looks like your engine only kicked on 3 times during this 1 hour test. My 2013 Prius Plug-in would kick on about 6 times in 1 hour with similar parameters you have for this test. My engine always kicks on when SOC drops to 18%, then runs for exactly 1 minute until it reaches 20% SOC, and then the engine shuts off. My Plug-in Prius has a larger battery, so the SOC % number is different from the non plug-in Prius. I want to add that the total time engine spent running versus engine off is about the same as your test, at about 87% off. In other words 87% of the time is off and 13% on. My question is do you know if I can get the engine to stay on longer to charge the battery to a higher percentage before shutting off. Right now, every time engine kicks on, it would only add 2% of SOC. I would like the engine to kick on and off less frequently, to reduce the wear and tear on the engine and also reduce the vibration when cycling on and off. Ideally, I would like to have the engine stay on a few minutes longer and give me more charge. I am not sure why my Plug-in Prius turns on and off twice as much as the regular Prius considering it has a larger battery capacity. If any one has a Prius Plug-in, can you check to see my observation with my Prius is similar to yours.

What about leaving every two (of 28) blades connected, and reconditioning them as 14 blocks? The Tenergy T180 can handle 16 NiMH cells. Each block has 12 (2 x 6 per blade). Wouldn't that simply cut the time in half?

I did this kit 2 yrs ago on a 2012 prius and replaced PCV valve. I had been using 1 quart in less than 500 miles. Probably due to listening to the 10k oil change interval recommendation. The kit reduced it to 1 qt per 1000 miles for a few months then consumption increaased again. So now i use seafoam in oil and gas tank and flush motor every oil change w standard motor flush from Oreillys. It only controls it a bit. No permanent fix. Replacing or cleaning the pcv valve is only temporary too since the cause is carboned up rings and EGR system. Use swivel long handle w deep socket for PCV valve.

I guess I'm late to the party. I was going to ask about battery management systems. Certainly, the original one is not appropriate for the LifePo. BTB, what's the cost for all that. I went to the site and it's not clear what they're talking about. Something is $350 but no idea what it is.

Tesla looks good on paper, but has so many drawbacks 1. Charging. Unless you own your own house, most people rent and do not have access to home charging which means you are forced to use super chargers which will take up your time and put more wear on the battery compared to slowly charging it overnight through your home. 2. Very expensive to repair. Tesla is not friendly for repairs and actively fights right to repair. The parts are expensive and if the battery goes bad you are out of luck. Most shops cannot repair a Tesla so you are on the mercy of Tesla. 3. Very expensive car insurance. Since the parts are expensive, insurance costs a lot more compared to a standard hybrid car. 4. Tire wear. Tesla not only needs a more expensive tires, it also eats through them significantly faster than a standard hybrid. EVs produce a lot of torque when accelerating and use regenerative braking when slowing down. EVs are also heavier than a standard hybrid car, this all together contributes to poor tire life. 5. Range anxiety. The range is lower compared to a standard hybrid car. Use of AC for either heating or cooling eats significant amount of battery. If the weather is very cold, the range significantly drops and could have trouble charging. 6. Reliability. Tesla according some rankings (consumer reports) have poor reliability. 7. long term ownership. The EV battery is a ticking time bomb and is loosing life overtime. When the time comes that you need to replace the battery, the cost is so high you might as well sell the car for scaps. You get a cool car with instant torque, low cost to charge, no oil changes, spark plugs, timing belts, oil filters, etc... to replace. cool tech (self driving, cool dashboard, etc...). The drawbacks far outweighs the pros of an EV.

Over charging is the biggest concern, do not charge the batteries and leave them unattended. That being said how long did it take to charge batteries if I'm not mistaken, batteries in parallel maintains voltage of an individual cell but increases the amperage, so 6.5*28=182 which at 1 amp will take 7.5 days from dead to charge to full capacity?

WTF, you have potentially two 1.2V batteries that are bad and you get a red triangle of death??? Is the car's performance real off with that low of a %. I mean that's basically 1%. Or is that the whole block is seriously affected and therefore you lose those two blocks? Could you explain this a little further, I'm considering buying a Prius? Thanks...

I have a 2001 1st Gen Prius. The link to the OBD Reader on Amazon says it doesn't work on Hybrids. What would be the correct Reader to use? The main mult-module battery was rebuilt/bad batteries replaced about 7 years ago. I'd like to check if any of the battery Modules or individual batteries have gone bad. Thanks

Some say you just have to hook the negative together and positives together and let it sit overnight. You say to charge it. Why did you decide to charge the whole battery when hooked up in parallel?
