IIRC from the end 70s the Cox engines were finicy to get to run and I was ever only successful with their special fuel.

I'm really surprised that the connecting rod was made from aluminum... It seems to me that it would be too weak to handle the stress.

I have bult 5 of them of which all run very well. The piston cylinder fit is crucial especially the amount of taper. All of mines cylinders were 4140 and the piston cast iron case hardened

The plans are in the article attatched to this 3d model grabcad.com/library/gordon-nano-0-1cc-aero-engine-1 they might be available elsewhere but that's where i found them.

Very interesting. You control the engine speed primarily by adjusting the size of the combustion chamber. It's brilliant!

This is the reason I moved onto flying R/C Gliders instead of engine powered scale airplanes. Is such a great pain in the neck to fuss with the engine start, tuning, messy fuel, and if the weather changes you probably have to tune it up again. Gliders are so peaceful...lol
@JellyFishMachine3 күн бұрын
I'm with you on that, I only fly powered airplanes in the videos lol the rest of my fleet is gliders, electric launch and bungee.

No concerns about galvanic corrosion since you got aluminum and iron and steel interfacing? Or the anodizing takes care of that?

Hi, great work. Do you have a link for that boring bar or did you make it?? Thanks
@JellyFishMachine4 күн бұрын
The boring bar i used in the lathe i'm not sure, it came from a dusty back corner of one of my toolboxes. Good brands are Micro100 and PHorn, but be aware the PHorn ones need a special holder. The boring head in the milling machine is the sherline one, with their boring bar.

I had a baby bee engine when I was a kid (think I still got it). It had a glow plug and that helt with the starting. It also had a spring for the propeller so you could wind it up and worked as a starter. Had it on a small plane I steered with two strings so I could go up or down while turning around my self. Tons of hours of fun and to this day I can stil turn around a lot with out gerring dizzy 🙂

crankshaft should be balanced to piston... you should remove some metal from crankshaft plate next to connecting rod...

Try a cox needle valve assembly. Make sure your crank case is fully sealed no air leaks. Also very overlooked is timing on the crankshaft and barrel ports. The crankshaft intake port may need to be slightly advanced (slightly knife edging anti clockwise) the engine may run clockwise 👍

Do you feel you are limited by the size of the Sherline machines? I am looking to buy my first lathe mostly for HO and O scale but might want to do some bigger projects such as the die filer kit I have seen. Thank You
@JellyFishMachine7 күн бұрын
It's limiting in some ways, mostly when making tooling, but i like to build small. HO and O scale it will be perfect, especially for HO scale. One important thing to keed in mind that people often overlook, is the cost of materials, tools, supplies etc increase drastically with larger machines and projects. i've seen so many people spend all of their budget on a lathe and basically do nothing with it, metal is expensive! My suggestion is to go for the sherline, and lots of material and accessories. their packages are a great way to get started: www.sherline.com/product/4500c4530c-lathe-with-adjustable-zero-handwheels-package/#description One more note about sherline machines - the DRO isn't so critical on the lathe but the zero adjustable handwheels are absolutely essential and very well worth the extra cost.

Good morning, does the spark plug also manufacture it and how does the electrical part of the engine work so that it sparks in the cylinder?
