Wow! they turned out amazing. I have just started planting my allotment garden where I hope to grow all my own dye plants, but in the meantime I will use Landscape dyes as I was given some by a lady in a textile group I used to go to. I never thought it through really of how to make a dye pot, so I just added dye to water and then added my fleece, and then added a different colour to blend two colours together to get another colour etc. they all turned out great but with no blending obviously just straight colour ways which are still beautiful, having done that process I then asked myself the question of "how do I achieve a more blended colour way"? and you have answered that question beautifully in your video with such amazing results, so TFS this has now given me another reason to do some more dyeing lol - I have just ordered some more raw fleece and am looking forward to using your method and excited about the results. You have also inspired me to think outside the box in terms of using my tiny patio to work outside on a fire pit to save on gas, what a great idea!!!

So lovely to read this! Thank you for your lovely comment. I am so happy to hear that you will have a go with the landscape dyes in this way. It's so much fun! The fire pit works pretty well, especially if you have a trivet / stand to use instead of balancing it on a grill like I initially was in this video. Wishing you a happy time with your wool dyeing! x

A new subscriber here, this is my second video to watch and found it so varied and interesting. I suppose my biggest interest at the moment is learning to how to do felting, I am so eager to get started because you have inspired me to go on line now, to buy all I that need to do the job creatively. I'd like to focus on fairies and Angels to start with, however there are a couple of questions I'd like ask if I may, and that is *1 how do you make the wool stay rigid especially for it to last a long time, therefore I am wondering if I need to buy some sort of spray on stiffner?... *2 do you ever make your own felt from balls of wool at all, I have seen this done which would help to keep costs down in the beginning of my venture, I would love to know your thoughts on this?... x

Hello there! Thank you for your kind words. To answer your questions... I have never needed to use a spray to hold the wool. As long as they are not handled too much they actually are very good at keeping their shape and "fluffiness". If they do get handled and lose their shape a bit, then I have found that combing them through with a felting needle is all they need to restore them to their former glory! Having said that, you could perhaps experiment with using a hairspray of some sort, but as I say I've not done that personally so couldn't recommend one to use. For your second question, I have made felt from knitted-up wool squares but never from a ball of wool so I'm not sure I can answer for that one. For these fairies you would need to use combed merino wool to get that beautiful floaty-ness. Thank you for your comments, you have inspired me to make some more videos about the fairies. I still make lots of them and sell them locally, but I haven't filmed them for some time now. Maybe it's time they made a comeback! Happy fairy making!

@@TracyKNixon they'll need to be big enough to stand up for themselves against our adult chickens and cockerel, so it will be a good few weeks yet. Probably somewhere around 15 weeks of age, give or take. The 7 girls will join our flock of free-range chickens roaming the woodland. Some of the boys are destined for the freezer I'm afraid to say. However, some will find new homes so that they can have their own chicks someday!
