I'm not defending Ryback, but this is a very watered down version of his complaint. What he was reported to have said is that because wrestlers don't have the power to determine their wins and losses or where they are on the card, that it's not fair to be paid based on that. He wanted lower card guys to be have a fairer salary as they're putting their bodies on the line the same as the headliners.
@AmariieMaerthos

Exactly
@exploderwrestlingpodcast2721
@exploderwrestlingpodcast2721 5 жыл бұрын
But ultimately, this is nonsense. Wrestlers should have higher pay because they don't determine where they are on the card? Go into work tomorrow and tell your boss you should make more money because you don't get to determine what job you get to do. Go ahead, try. Contracts are negotiated, guys lower on the card make less money (which is still higher than they used to make in the early 90s), guys higher on the card make more. You think Shawn Michaels made the same money in 1997 that he made in 1990? Of course not.
@thejetstarjump
@thejetstarjump 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Fraley Okay, but in my job I'm not being thrown around and risking not being able to walk when I'm older. Are you saying that because you can't get a raise in your day to day life then Ryback shouldn't point out an unfair pay issue? Lower and upper card guys are positioned for a variety of reasons, but one of them is promoters make the call who wins and looks stronger. Ryback said that it's not fair to be paid less because someone else decides he's lower on the card when he's taking the same damage and risks everyone else is.
@exploderwrestlingpodcast2721
@exploderwrestlingpodcast2721 5 жыл бұрын
But if Zack Ryder and Roman Reigns both went down with an inury at the same time, which one do you think would have a bigger impact on shows/angles/pay per views? That alone shows a disparity between talents. Same reason LeBron James and some lesser known guard don't make the same money. "But they both play the same game". See how it sounds in context?
@thejetstarjump
@thejetstarjump 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Fraley But this isn't a real sport. It's fixed. A booker/promoter has decided Roman Reigns is more important than Zack Ryder. And now Roman's a millionaire because of that choice even though Ryder is putting his body on the line the same. You can make as many sport or real world comparisons as you like but wrestling is the only one that DECIDES who wins and loses which is why Ryback was upset. Have Ryder go over Undertaker at Wrestlemania and suddenly he's just as important as Reigns and because of this decision is suddenly being paid so very much more. That's what is not fair, his salary is at the whim of other people.

Um, they are independent contractors. That's why they have, you know, contracts. This isn't 1980 where wrestlers, especially the mid to low carders, were making peanuts compared to today. These guys can pay for their own travel, expenses, and health coverage(all of which would be tax deductible).

@brypete 1021 Except Bret didn't refuse to lose to Shawn Michaels in his hometown because Bret's hometown is Calgary, Alberta and Survivor Series 1997 took in place Montreal, Quebec. And if you're thinking of the Canadian Stampede PPV that did take place in Bret's hometown, there was no refusal to lose to Shawn there either because Bret wasn't facing Shawn at that PPV; Hell, Shawn wasn't even booked for that Canadian Stampede PPV. As you rightfully pointed out, Bret's refusal to lose to Shawn had nothing to do with the fact that it was in Canada and everything to do with the fact that Shawn was just being Shawn.

Brett's demand makes sense in Canada. There are so few dates in the calendar in Canada and the fans here WANT to see him win here. That is servicing the fans. Otherwise you are going to have a whole arena disappointed that the big Canadian name loses at home. Think of how you feel when your favourite team loses at home? It sucks because thats the game you could see. Even if you aren't a fan of him, which I am not/was no at the time but appreciated him, I still didn't want to see him lose at home. There is absolutely a rivalry between Canada and the USA and it just doesn't make sense to have him lose at home on his final WWF trip north of the boarder.

In Eric Bischoff's book "Controversy Creates Cash", Bischoff says that the main reason WCW went under was because they wouldn't do "New Year's Evil" a PPV to be held on Dec 31, 1999, where matches would be bracketed by KISS performing one of their hits.

Even with those crazy demands Hogan Nash and razor were the best thing to happen to wcw. The real downfall was letting the nwo gig get way out of hand. Different factions with way to many members along with way too much creative control. If they just kept it as Hogan and the outsiders with a few new additions to bulk up ranks I belive wcw could of lasted a little longer.

Losing in Canada wasn't the issue- it was doing the job to Shawn Michaels- whom had told Bret that he would never do the favours for him- that was the problem for Bret. It just so happened that the 1997 Survivor Series was being held in Canada.

number 3 isn't true. Warrior didn't hold vince up for money at summerslam 1991. You need to research before making the video. He didn't want the money at summerslam. He wrote that letter 7 weeks before summerslam and vince agreed to everything. Then at summerslam he told everyone warrior just held him up, would pay him but fire him after the match. He wasn't forced to pay him at the event as that's not when warrior wanted more money. Vince could have easily said no and changed the main event just like he did the following year

It wasn't that Bret Hard refused to lose in Canada, he refused to give the title to Shawn Michaels because Michaels refused to put Bret over, despite the fact that Hart, in an effort to make peace, went to Shawn and told him that if Vince wanted Bret to put him over he would do it, and Shawn flat out refused to do the same for him. Learn some history.

5:45 Hogan held the WCW title for 15 months, and then had to go with some weird doublecross and disqualification loss to The Giant in order to lose the title. Then he didn't even get eliminated from World War 3 and pretty much ruined Macho Man's big title win. 15 months as undefeated champion and he can't even let Randy Savage have 30 seconds of glory in a battle royal. Hogan never returned the favor of Wrestlemania 5, but was definitely willing to let WCW spend $1million on a rematch so he could win over the Warrior...

I don't think #2 should be on the list because that's not specific to Lesnar (although he benefits from it) that also benefits Triple H, Vince McMahon, Undertaker and other part-time performers who could (and might) take advantage of not having to worry about testing.
@TJ52359
@TJ52359 5 жыл бұрын
at the same time if a given Wrestler only works 4 matches a year (and maybe does a hand full of appearances to promote said dates, how would WWE realistically monitor them? - set the test Date too close to the Event and you risk a 'card subject to change'... - set the test too early and you're controlling their life away from work - Scheduling a Test in the first place essentially negates the randomness and in the case of point 2, do you really want that slippery slope to end at the door of your Work Place (imagine having to take a Breathalyzer on Friday Night to 'Prove' you'll show up Sober on Monday Morning at a Temp Job?) and how would an all inclusive policy affect guys like Rock or Foley who make non-wrestling appearances
@thekydragon
@thekydragon 5 жыл бұрын
Tim Janssen I don’t agree with the policy, but what I‘m saying is that this isn’t a Brock Lesnar perk. This is a part-timers perk. Triple H definitely isn’t getting tested and neither is Vince. Brock Lesnar was just the guy caught on something and WWE had to publicly admit what their policy was. If USADA hadn’t caught Lesnar, that provision would still be in the Wellness Policy, but few would probably know about it.

Ay, I'm not mad at Ralfus at all. Showing up to see if he's needed is just taking initiative. If the guy was a trucker, he couldn't be available to be on tv AND drive across the country.
