LOL, Vivian that is not just a "clue" that is proof. I had a son in law who told me he did not respect me, but would never tell me why. He is generally a brat, selfish and resistant to correction. When I calmly and kindly told him once I disagreed with him, he raged and attempted to keep my daughter and our grandchildren away from me.

When I started telling myself that what others think of me is none of my business, I found much of my social anxiety alleviated. Obviously you still want to be conscientious of others and how your behavior affects the world around you but many of us are too worried about how others perceive us to live a normal healthy life.

Sometimes that is not enough to send the message that you are not interested. I have never had to go that far, but I pretended to be too busy to go out with a guy. When he caught me lying, instead of saying, "she is so desperate to avoid me, she lied to get out of dating me,:" his attitude was that since I was not really busy, I was free to go out with him. It was at that point that I became disgusted.

People with social anxiety might exhibit some of these too. They don't feel repulsed by the person, they feel repulsed by the situation and themselves. The irony is that when you are afraid of other people being repulsed by you, you give out signals other people translate in a way that they think you are repulsed by them.

Strukle D if you are referring to people with social anxiety it isn’t crazy, it’s the brain and the body trying to protect it self. Anxiety can trigger a flight or fight (such as if you’re in a dangerous situation) response in the body.

@MrX-rk9or
@MrX-rk9or 4 жыл бұрын
"Afraid" is the wrong term, as a starting point. It is more about being "over sensitive". Simply because it is not like you'd want to interact with the ppl you avoid (out of 'fear'), anyways. You do sense something not being right about them. Feeling anxious you might go all Defcon 1 when a specific individual approaches. Feeling calm you might jus tell them to go away.

I once worked with a group of younger women, all of whom were part of a clique, and years later ran into one of this group at a hair salon. I had hair color in my hair, and the hair stylist had placed me in a corner of the salon to sit until it was time to wash the color out of my hair... in walked this woman. She checked in, sat, and saw me in the corner ( we had not seen each other for 7 years). She made a face at me with her eyes as if she were looking at poo on the wall, but also as if she were trying to remember where she knew me from (when I worked with this group of women for many years, I was well known in my profession for my hard work and many accomplishments, so I don’t think she would have forgotten me that easily-but I did have dark color all over my hair ). She quickly recognized me however, and saw me looking at her and smiling at her, so she immediately smiled back with both lips together...a tight, quick smile that did not involve her eyes. A second or two later, she looked away and picked up a magazine. Guilt... from the way she and her friends/clique had treated me when I worked with them? Or repulsion, since they had convinced themselves that I was a horrible person in order to justify their evil acts? In any case, I thanked my stars that I did not ever have to work with them/her again. I had a great time at the salon that day talking and laughing with the owner and hair stylist. Great afternoon. Sometimes when you get snubbed by one of these types of people, it can be a good thing.

@waynejohnson1786 2 жыл бұрын
@@aratneerg1375 I doubt he really “gave off negative energy” considering he was able to convince so many young girls he didn’t know to put themselves in vulnerable positions. Although once he was caught I’d assume he’d be more “himself” and may not have cared as much about how people perceived him. I’m assuming the detective got to see the real side of Bundy; the sadistic psychopathic narcissist who enjoyed the discomfort of others... so yea, I wouldn’t say Bundy gave off negative vibes, at least not until he was caught.

@davidbillesbach3383 Жыл бұрын
That is a very narcissistic view to take on your fellow human being. Public smearing, even when given anonymity, is not a trait of an empath. More the behavior of a lower or mid range narcissist. A True Empath would feel pity and sorrow for someone with such a fragile self view, knowing that there is a traumatized child being held captive by what it thought was it's protector. Yet, you spent the time and energy to express your superiority over such obvious scum. Anyone who feels the need to announce themselves as an Empath, usually lacks the empathic trait they wish to portray. Knowing that I've created a level of cognitive dissonance within you gives me, "as a Narcissist" much needed and well deserved "joy". (Before you reply in disgusted disagreement, maybe take that time for a bit of introspection and change. Only an unaware narcissist would take that bait). Thank you for your time and consideration.

I can also be repulsed by a person, at times, and not walk away, instead I'll come out and ask them WTF is your problem. I feel if I can get these things out in the open, perhaps, that person won't be so repulsing and I won't be so repulsed. Also, there is the option of saying F..k OFF. Growing up with a malignant narcissist mother and older sister who had disdain for me was painful and very confusing. It resulted in me having Stockholm Syndrome and severe physical and mental health issues. Now I'm 5.5 years no contact and struggling to identify and heal the damages done. Especially difficult is the negative learned self identity issues, and the negative reactive social issues. This video explains much about what I experienced from not only the abusers but also those people they slandered me to and triangulated their hate towards me. People believe lies as though facts and go along with mob mentality too easily.

@velvetbees
@velvetbees Жыл бұрын
@@jkgrosley735 I spent many years in therapy on the why of my own situation. I think the mom / sibling narcs are scared creatures unable to deal with the brutality of life. So they make you deal with their brutality. They have the maturity of insecure children who want the world to be a safe, predictable place that will care for them. But the world is not like that, and they know it. Somehow that translates to callous, cruel behavior. My mother twisted reality to keep me in a disassociation with my own emotions. I had to come to terms with that. You are not the problem. You are more healthy than them. Stronger.They know it, but will never act like it. They believe love is scarce. If people start to love you, there may not be enough love left over for them. You haven't suffered enough to deserve love. Not like they have suffered. They have to work hard to keep up illusions. You only have to be yourself. You can't be allowed to be cherished, lest they lose. And that is an injustice, just like you said.

@mikebalko a narcissist cannot really be a misanthrope because they NEED people to feed off of. They do not avoid human society, they need to be around people to blame shift, to gaslight, to project their own feelings upon, and other narcissistic practices from their playbook. If they are left alone for too long, they become depressed because their own feelings are too much to bare. They still won't self-reflect though, unless they are in the process of changing for good... which is unlikely.

TAROT By Andie That is called resting bitch face. I know a few women who have that look all the time and behave like they Are superior to everyone else. Also they all try to find flaws with others all the time. I call them fault finders and accusers. The other part is that anything always offends them. They are the always offended class. I work with these people. One was an HR director and she had a baby girl voice. One is a clerk and she literally stomps around the office. One is a supervisor and she dressed very bizarre like she wears costumes not clothes and her volume in her speech is also exaggerated. The last one is a manager and she is like Lilith from Frazier. She is cold and distant, she behaves as she is superior to an insane degree and her interactions are always as if she is an authority, like everyone around her is a child.

Yes, that's how education works, it's arrogance. And getting the degree means "there's a problem with you". Yeah, see, something about that tells me that those are just excuses ignorant people hurl at mental health professionals. Maybe it's time for the second part of that statement to actually be vocalized. The perosn with the degree and experience has more knowledge now than you're average person, they probably have themselves and you figured out. That's like saying you started working out because you were exceptionally physically weak, but now you're Mohammed Ali, so maybe that statement the professor made is one that's lacking an important bit. No, I think you missed the "punchline" of that particular "joke": The FAKE phone call was what was ice cold, the REAL call was what could be considered WHITE HOT. "Moral" of the story? If you're going to engage in such shenanigans, make sure the people you're repulsed by are as stupid as you might think they are.

I believe there are many reasons someone would want to stay or get away from someone, none of which would have anything do do with what we would consider "repulsed." Avoidance in and of itself is simply not wanting to be around that person as they make you uncomfortable. It may not be physical or moral. You just may not like them. Maybe they talk too fast, maybe they are mentally unbalanced, maybe they talk about things you have no interest in, or are someone you don't identify with on any level due to their profession, connections, status or control. None of these is moral or physical. Sometimes we just don't vibrate with their patterns.

When I was a little girl of 7, I was wall-eyed (one wandering eye). That bothered some people. We were preparing for our First Communion day, and I happened to be in the church at the same time as "Rosemary," another girl in my class. To practice for my First Communion, I extended my tongue for the bishop to put the host on my tongue. Suddenly I heard "Rosemary" make one of those holier-than-thou sounds, "Huuuuuuuuuu. I'm going to tell on you when we get back to school that you stuck your tongue out at Jesus." (It was Friday after school). I felt horrible all weekend & suffered in terror as to what was going to happen on Monday. Monday came, and we were all back in the classroom. "Rosemary" stood up and very snot-ally announced in front of the entire class to the nun that I had stuck my tongue out at Jesus. Horrified, I stood up & told the nun that wasn't true -- that I had been practicing for my First Communion. To my surprise, the horrified nun ANGRILY chastised "Rosemary" in front of the entire class, clearly recognizing that I was a decent person & "Rosemary" was a trouble-making little snot. I was only defending myself, not wishing anyone any harm, but I have to admit I did get some kind of satisfaction out of that exchange. I wonder whatever happened to that repulsive little snot, "Rosemary."

I was once repulsed by a street magican. He did a small bit of magic for my friend and I. I could not wait to flee from his close presence. He both repulsed me and scared me. Months later one night I could see him in the distance pulling folks up to demonstrate his magic ability for donations. I again wanted to get away from the area quickly. There was just something about this man that did not appeal to my senses.

Well it's not a numbers game. When you say "repulsive to many" it sounds like you consider yourself outnumbered. But given time you'd only like a few out of many anyway, and maybe love none. So the "many" doesn't mean much. You have no use for them anyway given the time to realise that. Use the others, even if that's "few" or one. You would've ended up there anyway. The most attractive charming people don't have more once they're put in a tight spot, maybe not even one. Life changes for the better once you realise there are a few gems out there, there are a few assholes, but the majority of people are just "okay" and make things like public transport tick over. Staying home based on their interaction with you is not a proportionate or reasonable course of action for you. Your life is not a numbers game okay? It's just yours

I'm sooo grateful, that you mentioned that looking at the baseline of someones behaviour is important, Dr. Grande. Interpreting too much into nonverbal behaviour puts even more pressure on people like me who habitually feel strong discomfort in every day communication, and aren't fully capable of masking this. I'm the type of person that hides on bad days in corners and closets, if necessary and almost always tries to escape from certain types of communicating with others, as this is hard work for me. Saying "Hi" must be enough sometimes. Genetically predisposed hypersensitivity to interpersonal akwardness. That's all. Dr. Grande, everything would be so much easier for me, if you were a bit repulsive, too. Or in short: ❤

For the first time in my life I experienced the scrunched nose repulsed reaction. I ran into the mother of my daughter's classmate. Her child knew me and said hi and asked about my daughter. I smiled and responded to her, I work in their classroom and knew her very well. The mother then said "we should get together soon", with a fully scrunched nose and a very painfully fake smile. I was taken aback since it was so unnecessary to even say that. It still bothers me from time to time.

I'm not sure I agree with you 100 percent on this one. There are a lot of people out there who don't respond well to being rejected upfront. Sometimes it's best to make up an excuse not to talk to a person rather than tell them you are not interested for your own safety. In a perfect world though honesty would be the best policy.

Repeated attempts to engage someone in conversation after it’s obvious you are not interested is predatory . Then them trying to prove that you aren’t really busy or on your phone, is going to get them your disgust One thing is for sure if you make it clear you are uninterested in them and they keep trying shows they are only concerned with how they feel and what they want. If we are talking about a male asking a woman out and she says no thank you and he keeps trying will get her disgust, anger eventually .Basically we are all allowed to have boundaries no means no. People should not have to suffer others desires to make that person feel better .

The few times Ive encountered disgust and especially repulsion its usually the repulsed who end up showing themselves or are known as a repulsive/disgusting human. The rare times in my life that Ive seen the "disgust face" is usually from someone who wears that face often. The person falling into that category of not being a very happy individual in the first place and very low self esteem. Goes back to if someone is cutting others down for certain faults its many times that the person doing the judging has those same traits they are disgusted by. We see ourselves many times in others. We are all on this crazy life bus together and should realize that we all have disgusting characteristics from time to time.
