Just got a Xero mainly to see how my 14.5 308 performed. Online people were saying to expect 2400-2450fps from 150gr fmj, I was getting 200fps more than that from 4 different brands that I tested in that weight. I think people exaggerate the performance loss from these semi short barrels with 308/6.5. It's probably from the old fudd lore of needing 18 inch barrels at least. I suspect the 6.5 with a 14.5 barrel and 140gr eldm would get close to 2500 fps based off my friend's 20 inch getting 2595.

Thanks for finishing the series. I think 14.5 inch 6.5 CM is a cool concept and like you mentioned has a niche but there's nothing magic about it. Just a neat set of tradeoffs.

I shot f-class. A fantastic 10k rifle will barely hold 1moa at those distances, this rifle is doing well if it can hold a 4 moa group out there.

Outstanding video, bro. My 14.5in 6.5CM is one of my favorite and by far the most potent SBR I own. It always surprises all my buddies with their 24in+ musket length precisions rifles that think my shorty is a gimmick. Until I’m shootings at the same distances they are. Now they all want SBR 6.5CM’s. Is it a trend thing? Probably. But I’ll take this over a Stanley Cup mug or Bogg bag any day of the week 😂. Cheers!

I've mostly got my 16" 6.5 done, and have taken it out this passed weekend. It did, in fact, get to the 1000 meter max at my range, with a surprising regularity. My barrel was a good bit lighter than yours, though, with a hybrid contour Criterion. Agree on the 147gr Eld-Ms. I'm trying some Barnes copper solids, too, and getting pretty good velocities, with a really good extreme spread.

@@FocusTripp Playing around with different ammo, especially in these larger calibers, starts getting expensive real quick. That said, as a ballistician, my specific flavor of autism is optimizing bullet path, and I can't not search around for the best option per firearm, especially one's more capable of longer range firing. Of course, I'm also loading the majority of my own ammo, so that's a whole other time sink, and that time comes at a higher premium than even the financial cost of the ammo, for sometimes only marginal gains in potential accuracy.

7~ lbs maybe. I would go with a 16" lighter profile and swap out the upper and handguard combo.

You were also helped by the 2+ second flight time of the bullet at 1220, giving your scope time to settle after the shot.

This almost has me wanting to swap out my 16” 308 barrel for a 14.5 6.5 barrel. Maybe once i burn this barrel out I’ll make the swap. I have a real nice load worked up with a 168gr smk, i get right around .8” @ 100 and that’s just shooting off a bipod,im sure it would do a little better in a lead sled. If you reload you could probably squeeze a little more velocity out of the 14.5 and a little more accuracy. I still like 308 because availability is better around me and finding cheap 6.5 isn’t as easy but it’s getting better,maybe by the time i burn this barrel out we will be there.

You should buy a 18 or 20in 6.5 barrel with a rifle length gas system and cut it down to 16 to make a dissipator build, I bet 6.5 has enough pressure to run reliably and cut down on recoil.

Freakin' Love it! I just finished a 32" 25 Creed bolt gun build, for 1,000yd. to mile shooting. Here's what I think could be possible with a 25 Creed in a 14.5" with a full power (AR10 Mag length) handload. 134gr ELDM 1400yd 1277fps 485ft. lbs. +50.56 MOA (100yd zero) +7.60 MOA 10mph 90° wind. SAAMI will announce acceptance by the end of the month, Hornady will announce this fall. 25 Creed is Best Creed. Now I need to build one in 14.5 AR ☹Thanks for sharing 😃

@@m4rvinmartian Really I find that hard to believe, seeing as I've done plenty of research. 😄 The barrel's custom throated to seat the bullets long, cryogenically treated, and it's also HBN coated as well as the bullets. I was just shooting 134's at 3,000 fps yesterday, I'm fairly certain I can attain 3,250fps out of it. This is using Small Rifle Primer brass with CCI #450 Magnum small rifle primers. Super sonic to 2,200yd. I assure you that I don't waste money, the barrel only cost me $100. Thanks to the insurance I put on it 😉

Nice. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you were holding 59 MOA at 1200 that means your drop was 59'. I grew up shooting on a 640 yard range, and shooting 77gr 5.56 at that distance was a pain in the ass if you had anything more than a little wind and those bullets were only about dropping a quarter to a third of what yours were... We were shooting a 14x14" swinger so it was a little more generous than what you were shooting. What was your hit percentage at that range?

It's just repackaged 22-250 that's been slightly neutered. It's a cash grab, manufacturers banking on the creedmoor hype train and relying on people who think old cartridges are outdated.

@@RichardCranium321 tbh you're right, but it sounds like the you'll be able to put heavier slugs in the sneedmore and have better performance than the .22-250. You could certainly achieve the same or better with .22-250, especially the AI version, but that would require an aftermarket barrel and probably reloading. I forget the parent case of .22-250, but the .308/6.5cm case is likely far easier and cheaper to get ahold of. Like how with the .338 Federal? It basically did 8.6BLK stuff, but it just didn't have the standard twist rate so it was limited to what it could do.

The 14.5 is prolly a little silly...but that doesn't mean it ain't fun...and fun's good enough. I also think the battle rifle concept only really makes sense if you're part of team/squad and it's serving in a DMR capacity. Otherwise, it's not a great idea for a primary "dooty" rifle.

BC is influenced by velocity so 147 are not ideal for a shorty in my view. They never shoot as good as 130 or 140gr in a 18-24” 6.5cm In my view the 147 is good for 6.5 prc
