Doing a little more on the Freightliner. Addressing the issue of weight distribution, more specifically the lack of weight over the drive axle.
A chance to play molten metal mud pies in the back yard.

Man, that's cool. I see trucks at tractor pulls with that and also pusher trucks in massive heavy haul convoys. Your back yard is beautiful man. I love the tropics. Hey, what about going to a glass cutter and ask for some scraps. See if any are thin enough or you could cut the shape from the sides of a milk carton and cover it with chrome tape. Thanks for the video and those few minutes in your warm tropical back yard. It's colder than blue blazes here. Later

Thanks Ray. Our weather is mixed here at the moment, hot one day, cool the next. The weight box was a fun wee build, didn't need to think about it much, just make a box.

Another amazing build on the counter weight body. I don't know if you get some stainless steel and polish it out and then cut it out to make the mirrors. Here in the states we can sand and use polishing compounds to make it like o mirror finish. Some bathroom have the stainless steel instead of mirrors because the can't be busted out. GOD BLESS YOU and keep the good work up
@OldIronRC
@OldIronRC 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Danny. I'll keep that in mind. I am not super worried about the mirrors at this stage, it's got time before she is running under her own steam.

For mirrors I tend to use the thin plastic flexible mirror repair sheet one can get at auto accessories stores. It can be cut with normal scissors and is easy to work with and is the perfect scale thickness. Then back it with double sided tape to mount it :)

My pleasure :) Google "MIRROR GLASS REPLACEMENT 120MM x 200MM (5 x 8INCH)" and you will find the product. Great stuff! Been using it for years, and one sheet goes a long way :D

@@OldIronRC I reckon you´ll turn out to be good at casting. Your thorough approach should pay dividends - presumably you´ll be sand casting, which I, too, have yet to try doing.

@@Del350K4 I got some investment plaster, to try and also I am seeing kinetic sand may be an option, otherwise sand, or a mix of these. Experiments yet to be done. I am wondering what to cast that I would use, but is not to complicated and induce failure.

@@OldIronRC I learned a great deal by watching Veg Oil Guy, or VOG, on KZfaq. Then his channel morphed into a 3D printer review channel, but his work from a couple of years ago is very helpful when it comes to investment casting. As for sand casting, the easiest way to help yourself do well is apparently to use a sand called Petrobond (I like the sound of that!) but I plan to be a tightwad and play with fine sand and unperfumed kitty litter, as detailed by The King of Random, before I invest in the proper stuff. As for what to cast...axle housings etc. might be too ambitious. What about a set of RC truck wheels?

Once you put metal or plastic base on the mirrors some aluminum duct tape is a really reflective finish for the surface.

Yep, I used alloy tape for Fatbetty mirrors. I'm always fishing for new ideas though.
