No radio. The drain is at the alternator hot lug & I'd been working/stuck trying to fix it the right way at 2 weeks. I could have gone thru ignition wire but I put a toggle switch just to move on & have time to think about the problem?

Great info 👍 im working on a 77 k5 are wire colors the same as a 72?
@PatinaCode
@PatinaCode 10 ай бұрын
I have never tore into a 77 . I will say this. GM didn’t change up the color scheme for the wires over the years . Most of what I showed in these videos will help with your project. I wired a 66 Impala and was surprised as to how much the wiring resembled that of the 72 truck.

I have a 75 chevy and my guages keep burning mu circut board have u had that issue
@PatinaCode
@PatinaCode 2 жыл бұрын
No I have never had that issue. Usually if a component is burning up things , or shorting things out , there’s a grounding issue , or too much juice getting to the compliment. Check you battery cables to be sure they are secure. Loose battery cables can cause voltage spikes that can pass throughout your system. One other thing to look for is to see if the proper fuse in installed . Some times people will put a 20 amp fuse in place of a 10 amp , thinking that is an improvement. It’s not . When you put a higher amperage fuse in place of what is called for , that only helps things go out faster. A 10 amp fuse is there to protect what only requires that many amps , once that 10 amperage is exceeded the fuse blows and therefore protects what it’s guarding. If a bigger fuse is in place , the fuse won’t blow , but the component that is inline with that fuse is going to get destroyed, because it is receiving more amperage than it can handle. Hope this helps or gets you started in the right direction.

I did have one question. You did not cover the blower motor wire. Any idea which one that is? Or is it on the harness inside?
@PatinaCode

The brown wire is the hot wire for the heater motor.

1972 Chevy van=I'm still working on my electrical issues, been watching Chis Craft=He also does nice presentations & in hopes to figure out why battery drain? I put new charging system, but also with a voltage regulator 3 wire alternator=the hot lug draws power with key off & I don't know why=so I have too remove negative the cable when it's parked? Thanks be well.

Do you have a radio in the van ? If so that could be what is drawing amps . You may even have to check the light switch and cigarette lighter. . Here’s a way to figure it out. Make sure the battery is fully charged then before you are finished for the day , pull the radio fuse . If you come back the next day and can start the van then that lets you know that it the radio. Do you have any accessories other than a radio . Like , non factory lights , interior fans , or anything like that ? If so that could be putting a draw on your system.

This is a very informative video and super cool you made these videos!! I’m doing an ls swap on my 69 c10 and nobody seems to know what to do with the brown wire. You have answered my question hahaha.... with that being said have you ran into any problems by removing the brown/white wire that ran from the fuse block to ignition switch?

I'm loving these videos man. Very simple explanation of the wires and their functions. One thing I would recommend is using a soldering iron to heat the blade terminals and soften the plastic. That should make the terminals with those "barbs" easier to pull out.
