You're a braver man than I doing all that work with the rear suspension unit in the car.

That job has made grown men cry, well done. Its tempting to drop the whole rear sub frame and just do the lot all at once.

In my mechanic's shop there's a pile of rotors, most of them have entire chunks missing. So that one actually looks good.

LOL rotors like that are only good for one thing, busting up and loading into the furnace for recasting :D

Good stuff!, those inboards can be a pain but they work well.

I have never seen brakes in that location ever in my life - I live in the States though - What kind of car is that set up on?

can you explain please what you removed to get at the actual discs and pads inboard on the XJS rear BRAKES??, this is a job i have to do on my 81' car i have the parts its just how do you remove the calipers, discs etc WITHOUT dropping the rear axle down i have the factory workshop manual but apart from mentioning undoing the square plates at either end it doesnt explain what else needs to be undone or removed to get at the actual caipers and discs regards

Nice one!

Can I asked why you didn't just remove the whole sub frame?

You get all the best jobs!! It is getting there - a good road test should tell a lot about the engine health!

Damn those disks are close to the diff!
@Aussie509 жыл бұрын
good old inboard disks. good for reducing unsprung weight, not good for ease of service!

Aussie50 interesting, never seen them before

I dont think there are many people like you brad, quality repairs to old beasts. Why did jaguar put the brakes in such a hard to reach area?
@OlegKostoglatov9 жыл бұрын
Some Rover cars and many Citroens have the same setup, by having the brakes inboard it reduces the unsprung weight at the wheels but apparently makes them less likely to fade due to water and dirt contaminating the rotors. It also allows more suspension travel since they don't have to worry about the calipers and plumbing getting in the way, but it does not look like they are not easy to get to on this car.

OlegKostoglatov Ooow, so a good idea but, and there allways is a "But" lol :-))

It very likely could have been designed so that the brakes would be easier to service, that being said at least they designed it so the shafts and universal joints unbolt from the rotors rather then using splines shafts which would have to be pulled out. Strange that they used universal joints rather then constant velocity joints, even so it does not seem to have been a problem.

inboard disks are not fun to work on. looking forward to see the next vid :)

All that arseing about just to get rid of a little unsprung weight.

has to be the worst brake fluid i have ever seen. (and i have serviced cars with pretty nasty brake fluid)
