2 Stroke Cylinder Install Onto Piston How To Vittorazi Moster 185

2 stroke engines are light, powerful, and easy to service. Here I show how to hone a cylinder and install it onto the piston and crankcase. This engine is a Vittorazi Moster 185 on a flat top paramotor. The torque spec for the head is 16-17 Nm or 12 ft. lbs.
I use this to lube the hone and for assembly of engine parts

I think it also makes you understand its functions more so, thus making you a safer sportsman. Which is why I bought my first motorcycle not running on purpose. Rebuilding it from the ground up helps you to understand and appreciate it so much more, in my opinion. It scares me to know that I share the city streets with people who don't even know what their battery looks like or if they're running the proper gasoline.

the philosophy at the shop I worked at was heat cycling was important on 2 strokes but significant combustion pressure is needed to seat the rings to the cylinder wall before the cross hatching glazes. Nice video, I can't wait to get a paramotor

From my days of racing motocross and enduros The manufactures were not too concerned with the match between the transfer ports and the cases. I would always match these ports, usually going no higher up and down than needed to give a smooth radius. I have cured several jetting issues with this and the smoother flow the more power it will make. You might want to check this the next time you split the cases.

I was taught to clean the cylinder bores very thoroughly with hot soapy water using dish detergent to remove any tiny grit and iron particles adhering to the cylinder walls after honing. Maybe it is not quite so important now, because of the new different cylinder surface treatments and piston ring combinations that require a much finer cylinder finish, but cleaning was very important with plain cast iron bores. Immediate oiling of bores after cleaning is of course required to prevent rusting of iron surfaces afterward. Anyhow, thank you for your great and always interesting videos.

Hey Brian as always another great vid. I must ask what is a good torque wrench you would recommend for low- higher torque specs. I currently have a Stanley fat Max torque wrench but the range is 20-250 ft/lbs. I'm looking for something in the lower range like 5ft/lbs and up.

So I’m buying anew flattop paramotor and how often should you do the piston / head rebuild? You said in the video you had 400 hrs on it? And what is your recommendation on hrs to do this service to keep you motor in tip top shape. How many hour did it take to do cylinder/piston and carbonated service total? I want to do these services on my own also but would like to do it the first time with a pro like you. Are you for hire because I just live in Am. Fork near you?

I was hoping that this was going to be a video on how to find a moped cylinder and piston that will fit on the Vitto 185. I can actually afford to lose some power. Many people are dropping down to Atom 80 size motors. Would be neat to find something cheap that fits the lower case. I've been told that the original Vitto was based on another companies pistons.

Hi Brian, i hope you can help, as you seem to have quite the experience maintaining your moster! After my 25h maintenance , my power band is not constant especially at cruise rpm, which is 6000rpm. My motor runs smooth, rich, yet when it reaches 5800rpm and while I continue to throttle slowly, nothing happens for like 2 to 3 mm of throttle abd then suddenly it jumps to 6800rpm (climb). I cleaned the throttle handle and its cable, and adjusted the hi/lo screwsxpn the carb bit i still face the prob. Any advices?

@briansmobile1 I always thought that using a stone hone/deglazer on a coated cylinder was a big no no? Tip for next time... I just redid my '77 moto-ski motor. Used the same tool, but non coated cylinder(maybe it was lol). I found using oil on the stones clogged up fast and made a mess... I ended up filling a sink with water and lots of dish soap...seemed to work great. Just get the cylinder dried and oiled asap after!

No, in the US, paramotors are licensed under FAR 103, which doesn't require any airworthiness certification, or even any pilot certification. You fly at your own risk, so it's your responsibility to minimize that risk

When BMW came out with Nikasyl cylinder coatings on their bikes in the dark ages, they said to not hone the cylinders at all, just wipe them clean and reassemble. It must be significantly thicker stuff these days.
@gravediggmn
@gravediggmn 7 жыл бұрын
I've always been under the impression that you shouldn't hone nikasyl due to the fact that the coating is porous, and the the fine powder created from the honing stones fills in those pores, thus taking away lubrication..

At 14:21 that's a landing pad for "Yellicopters" it's like the "H" you see on buildings and adjacent to Hospital parking lots. Yellicopters are not only yellow, but they are so loud they're not allowed to land in town. (you can see the commuter path that connects it to town below it) The yelling is too much for young ears and especially during the early & late hours that yellicopters fly. (just kidding!) The other reason you might find Y's on mountains outside of college towns is for college spirit given that the college has a Y in it's name. (too bad Yale doesn't have a mountain like this near it- Brigham Young University does though)

want more bang for your buck? the hack way is take a half round file and do 5 stokes over the top side of the exaust port want even more? widen the u ports on the bottom of the piston also. wy up? the exaust gets out faster and the new mixture gets in faster in a bigger volume dont forget the engine will get hotter and so you will need a hotter sparkplug there are guids on KZfaq to help you further just search 2 stroke engine. also you can make more compression or "sqeeze" by using 2000 grid sandpaper sticking it on some glass NO BUBBLES! and sanding the surface down on the gaschet side flat make sure the piston does not hit the sparkplug on TDC with some bubble gum on the piston and the head in place turn the engine one time by hand. if it cant go one stroke you need a new head because you hit the sparkplug

They even sound like shit and with no power band :). Wow that is a awful price for a piston.. actually that is ridiculous as far as I am concerned, and there is no reason for it in this day in age. But when something is popular and kind of new they will rape you.. I still rebuild my 2stoke 600cc yamaha snowmobile motor and the pistons are like 35-50 bucks.
